Describes the phyto-chemical studies on some medicinal plants of Jammu and Kashmir State, especially of the valley proper. These plants belong to different families. The plants were chosen on the basis of their known medicinal properties and all are high altitude plants which are gathered at the heights of 6000ft and above. Altogether four plants have been studied and from each different constituents were isolated. The identifications have been made on the basis of spectral data and where, possible confirmed through direct comparison. Although isolated belong to different classes of natural products, mostly oxygen heterocycles, the discussion in the thesis mainly centres round the lignans from Daphne oleoides which belong to the family thyrnalaceae
