Mopsos. Antike und moderne Mythen über den Trojanischen Krieg

This article deals with new research approaches that mythical traditions and genealogies on Mopsos were reflecting migrations of Greeks. These populations are considered to have been moving into the region of later Cilicia after the collapse of the late Bronze Age system of powers. A survey of the most important points shows that the arguments are not strong enough to support these reconstructions. A remark by Herodotus on the supposed former name of the Cilicians, who were reported to have been called “Hypachaians,“ on close investigation rather reveals that the myths contradict the Classical view and therefore have to be more recent

Erwägungen zu kaukasisch-iberischer Heldenepik, Kulturtransfer, senatorischer Selbstdarstellung und römischer Historiographie: King Pharasmanes I as Bumberazi (ბუმბერაზი) in Tacitus. Considerations on Caucasian-Iberian Heroic Epic, Cultural Transfer in Edessa, Senatorial Self-Representation and Roman Historiography

The investigation starts with peculiarities in Tacitus\u27s depiction of a battle between the Iberians and Parthians. It shall be shown that this is ultimately based on contemporary Iberian heroic epic. Furthermore, it should be clarified how this local tradition can have found its way into senatorial historiography. A version that goes back to L. Vitellius, who acted as governor for Tiberius and Caligula, is identified as Tacitus\u27s template. Ultimately, Vitellius probably made use of a tradition that was passed on via Edessa. The aim is not to check the historicity of details. Rather, it should be analysed which motives influenced the oral and written tradition

В работе всесторонне исследуется акт закрытия Августом Октавианом врат храма Януса 11 января 29 г. до н.э. в ознаменование наступления всеобщего мира. Особое внимание уделяется вопросу о символическом значении этого действия, для чего автор делает обширный экскурс в материал о предшествующей эпохе Республики, исследуя в целом традицию закрытия врат храма Януса при наступлении мира. In the paper the act of closing the doors of Janus’ temple by Augustus Octavian on the January, 11th in 29 B.C. in commemoration of achieving of a universal peace is comprehensively investigated. The special attention is given to a problem of symbolical value of this action. For this purpose the author analyses a material about a previous epoch of the Republic and investigates the tradition of closing the doors of Janus’ temple as a whole

Римские вооруженные силы в ведении города: пример Термесса

The article is devoted to the problem of interrelations between imperial administration and authorities of poleis, which became part of the Roman state. The problem is examined in respect to the military sphere: nature of relations between local forces of protection and Roman army by example of the city of Termessos in Pisidia (Asia Minor) is considered. The author relies on information of epigraphic monuments, which have been discovered, but not yet fully published. Статья посвящена проблеме взаимоотношений имперского аппарата управления и органов власти полисов, вошедших в римскую державу. Рассматривается она применительно к военной сфере: исследуется характер отношений между местными силами обеспечения безопасности и римскими войсками на примере города Термесса в Писидии (Малая Азия). Автор опирается на сведения найденных, но в полном объеме пока не опубликованных эпиграфических памятников. Ursprunglich sorgte Termessos allein für die Sicherung seines großen Territoriums. Die Polis setzte dafür Irenarchen ein. Als die zunehmend unsichere Situation im dritten Jahrhundert Termessos damit zu überfordern drohte, zog das Reich diese Aufgabe an sich: Die Schutztruppen wurden dem Reichsmilitär eingegliedert, aber weiterhin lokal rekrutiert. An ihrer Spitze stand ein Befehlshaber, dessen Verantwortungsbereich sich mit dem Stadtgebiet deckte. In Termessos wurde er zunächst als dux bezeichnet. Strukturell glich er Kommissaren in anderen Verwaltungssektoren wie den defensores oder den curatores rei publicae. Wie sie geriet er rasch unter die Kontrolle der städtischen Oberschicht, aus deren Reihen dann die Inhaber rekrutiert wurden. Wohl im Zusammenhang mit der Formierung des Dukates als einer regulären, auf eine Provinz bezogenen Militärstatthalterschaft wurde dieser städtische dux durch einen praepositus ersetzt. Er führte also weiterhin einen lateinischen Titel und fungierte formal in einem Reichsamt. Ebenso verblieben die ihm unterstellten Truppen als limitanei in der Reichsmatrikel. Die Zuordnung beider hatte je später desto mehr nur noch Bedeutung für die finanziellen Beziehungen zwischen Reich und Stadt. Denn de facto kontrollierte die städtische Elite durch einen von ihr gestellten Befehlshaber Soldaten, die zwar dem Reich unterstellt, durch ihre Herkunft und durch ihre permanente Stationierung in Termessos aber fest in die Polisgesellschaft eingebunden waren.Резюме на русском языке: с. 79
