Towards quantum 3d imaging devices
We review the advancement of the research toward the design and implementation of quantum plenoptic cameras, radically novel 3D imaging devices that exploit both momentumâposition entanglement and photonânumber correlations to provide the typical refocusing and ultra-fast, scanning-free, 3D imaging capability of plenoptic devices, along with dramatically enhanced performances, unattainable in standard plenoptic cameras: diffraction-limited resolution, large depth of focus, and ultra-low noise. To further increase the volumetric resolution beyond the Rayleigh diffraction limit, and achieve the quantum limit, we are also developing dedicated protocols based on quantum Fisher information. However, for the quantum advantages of the proposed devices to be effective and appealing to end-users, two main challenges need to be tackled. First, due to the large number of frames required for correlation measurements to provide an acceptable signal-to-noise ratio, quantum plenoptic imaging (QPI) would require, if implemented with commercially available high-resolution cameras, acquisition times ranging from tens of seconds to a few minutes. Second, the elaboration of this large amount of data, in order to retrieve 3D images or refocusing 2D images, requires high-performance and time-consuming computation. To address these challenges, we are developing high-resolution single-photon avalanche photodiode (SPAD) arrays and high-performance low-level programming of ultra-fast electronics, combined with compressive sensing and quantum tomography algorithms, with the aim to reduce both the acquisition and the elaboration time by two orders of magnitude. Routes toward exploitation of the QPI devices will also be discussed

ORAL LICHEN PLANUS AND DENTAL HYGIENE: A CASE REPORT
Background: The presence of atrophic-erosive lesions
among gingival tissues makes oral hygiene procedures difficult for
several reasons. Plaque control and rigorous oral hygiene are a
fundamental requisite for the treatment of any oromucosal
disease. Case report: A patient suffering from a mixed atrophicerosive
form of oral lichen planus (OLP), with serious gingival
involvement, was also treated with the topical application of
clobetasol propionate 0.05% using gingival trays. The highest hygiene
standards of both patient and trays were of fundamental
importance. Discussion: The management of the patient suffering from
gingival atrophic-erosive OLP requires the synergic treatment of both
dentist and dental hygienist, whose contribution supports the
corticosteroid and â or immunosuppressive treatment
Some consideration on the cultural competence of service providers about migrants in Apulia
The social experience of being a refugee and having to develop practical coping
strategies are closely related to processes of identification in the multi-ethnic contexts and
situations under study, where ethnic identity becomes a central issue. To know the best
practices and need analysis of immigrant integration in Apulia (Italy), data were collected
by self-administered questionnaires to different service providers who had significant
experience with adolescent immigrants in the target period. The survey of service
providersâ experiences of immigration was conducted through the administration of
questionnaire to a convenience sample of service providers, with interviews carried out in
the period between April and June 2006. Altogether, 114 questionnaires were found to be
useful for the purposes of the survey. They were subdivided according to the type of
operator: 21.9% were secondary school heads; and the same percentage were social
workers and psychologists/psychiatrists; substantial proportions of the total were formed by
doctors with 24.6% and finally cultural mediators, 9.6%. The results of the empirical survey
reveal a widespread perception on the part of the operators in the sector of the importance
of an adequate and specific cultural preparation in the problems of adolescents. In this
sense, the service providers favour a preparation that also involves training exchanges with
the countries with the greatest migratory flow towards this country and the creation of
adequate structures that can guarantee a better reception and the raising of the quality of life
of all those who choose to come here for a new start in life
General health and psychological distress among adolescents in six European countries
Due to forced population movements from southeastern Europe to the
neighboring countries, for many refugees or displaced persons there have been problems
in various domains of life, including health problems. The aim of this study is to focus on
the general health and psychological stress of youths and to investigate the elements
producing the health problems linked to the mental and psychological disorders of youths
in six countries. The target population is composed of adolescents who were between 15
and 18 years of age in 2003 and who immigrated into a new country between 1990 and
2000. From this analysis, a profile emerges of an adolescent who, independently of
immigrant or native status, reveals an unexpected fragility. This is manifested through a
nonoptimal perception of his/her state of health that is not confirmed by recognized
pathologies. This discrepancy between perceived and objective state of health is a
psychological state that is produced by a wide variety of factors, and results in reduced selfesteem
and dissatisfaction with life. It is manifested in a difficulty in accepting oneâs selfimage.
This produces the difficulty the youths experience in accepting a self-image that has
been deformed by reality, with consequent pathologies involving the alimentary disorders
which have become a phenomenon of the new forms of society
Imaging the ultrasmall-angle x-ray scattering distribution with grating interferometry.
X-ray imaging with grating interferometry has previously been regarded as a technique providing information only in direct space. It delivers absorption, phase, and dark-field contrast, which can be viewed as parameters of the underlying but unresolved scattering distribution. Here, we present a method that provides the ultrasmall-angle x-ray scattering distribution and, thus, allows simultaneous access to direct and reciprocal space information
