DECAY OF THE GIANT QUADRUPOLE-RESONANCE AND HIGHER EXCITATION STATES IN CA-40

    No full text
Light charged particles have been measured in coincidence with inelastically scattered fragments from the Ca-40 + Ca-40 reaction at 50 MeV/N. Such a measurement allows to unravel the different reaction mechanisms contributing to the inelastic spectrum: pick-up break-up reactions, knock out and inelastic excitations. The giant quadrupole resonance in Ca-40 is shown to present a 30% non statistical decay branch. A prominent structure at 34 MeV is attributed to target excitation, the decay of this structure is studied

NEUTRON DECAY OF THE EXCITATION-ENERGY REGION UP TO 60 MEV, EXCITED BY HEAVY-ION SCATTERING .2. ZR-90 AND SN-124

    No full text
The neutron decay of the continuum in Zr-90 and Sn-124, excited by inelastic scattering of 84A MeV O-17 ions in the range from 1.5 to 4.5-degrees, has been measured. Statistical decay was found to dominate the excitation-energy interval studied, up to about 50 MeV. In the excitation-energy interval from the neutron threshold up to about 35 MeV a distinct direct-decay component to the hole states in Zr-89 and Sn-123 was observed. In addition, a decay pattern resembling pre-equilibrium decay was observed for Zr-90. In the excitation energy spectrum of Zr-90 gated by low-energy (<2.5 MeV) neutrons, indications of a resonance structure is observed at about 27 MeV
