Thromboelastometry used for evaluation of blood coagulability in dogs with kidney diseases
Kidney diseases as protein-losing nephropathies are predisposing conditions for thrombosis/thromboembolism in dogs due to increased blood coagulability. The aim of this study was to use thromboelastometry for investigation of changes in haemostasis in dogs affected by renal proteinuria alone or concomitant with azotemia. The study was done at 55 client-owned, healthy (n = 34), proteinuric (n = 14), and proteinuric/azotemic (n = 7) dogs. Blood coagulation was assessed by means of standard coagulation profile and thromboelastometry (in-TEM, ex-TEM, and fib-TEM). In proteinuric dogs only the maximum clot firmness and maximum clot elasticity significantly increased (P P < 0.05) of the variables clotting time, clot formation time, α angle, maximum clot firmness and maximum clot elasticity. After correction for group affiliation, the linear regression analysis showed a non significant association between changes in proteinuria and thromboelastometric profiles. In conclusion, thromboelastometric changes indicating hypercoagulabilty were more consistently found in the dogs with proteinuria/azotemia, than in those with proteinuria alone, suggesting that the former dogs can be considered at higher thrombotic risk. This is the first study where thromboelastometry has been applied to the investigation of haemostatic changes in dogs with kidney diseases
Visceral Leishmaniasis Treatment, Italy
First-line drug treatment was recorded in 573 immunocompetent patients with visceral leishmaniasis in Italy. In the past 12 years, the proportion of antimonial treatments decreased from 100% to 2.8%, while the proportion of amphotericin B treatments increased from 0% to 97.2%. The countrywide change in therapy is a response to both disease reemergence and increasing antimonial failure
Four-membered chelate aminoalkenyl complexes of platinum(II). Synthesis, carbonylation and oxidation to aminoacidato complexes
Amination of PtII-allene complexes of the type cis[PtCl2(Me2CCCHR)(PPh3)] gives the new four-membered C, N chelate aminoalkenyl complexes [PtC(CMe2)CHRNMe2(PPh3)Cl]. These undergo ready insertion of carbon monoxide into the CPt σ-bond; the resulting acyl complexes are oxidized by hydrogen peroxide to aminoacidato complexes, and the free unsaturated β-aminoacids can be recovered in good yield by ligand displacement. © 1980
Freshness Indexes of Anchovies and Sardines of Mediterranean Sea
Anchovy (Engraulis Encrasicholus) and sardine (Sardina Pilchardus) are blue fishes linked to our alimentary tradition of Mediterranean. In our work, particularly, we tested for the first time physical and enzymatic methods to verify the freshness of species of blue fish, anchovy and sardine of Mediterranean. In connection with to the lowering of the pH after post-mortem stage we assisted to a increase in proteolytic activity of calpaine and catpsine. Already after 2 h in post- mortem there was a considerable increase
A new effective method for the resolution of prochiral olefins. Stereoselective coordination in [PtCl3 (olefin)]- induced by crystallization
Crystallization of [PtCl3(olefin)]- [(S-C6H5CH(CH3)N(CH3)3]+ compounds (olefin = prochiral olefins) affords a single diastereoisomer through a second-order asymmetric transformation. © 1980
Synthesis, structure, and stereochemistry of five-coordinate platinum(II)-olefin complexes with a chiral diamine
New five-coordinate platinum(II) complexes of general formula [PtCl2(diamine)(olefin)], where diamine = (R,R)-N,N′-dimethyl-N,N′-bis(α-methylbenzyl)-1,2-ethanediamine (R,R-mben) and olefin = acrolein (AA), acrylonitrile (AN), fumarodinitrile (FN), maleic anhydride (MA), and maleimide (MI) were prepared and characterized. The crystal structures of the already known ethene (1) and propene (2) complexes have been determined by X-ray diffraction studies. Both compounds crystallize in the tetragonal space group P43212 with four molecules per unit cell. Lattice parameters (25°C) are a = b = 13.016 (3) Å, c = 13.719 (4) Å and a = b = 13.180 (2) Å, c = 13.850 (2) A for complexes 1 and 2, respectively. The whole geometry corresponds to a trigonal bipyramid with the chlorine atoms in the axial positions. The olefin and the diamine ligand lie in the equatorial plane. The two prochiral nitrogen atoms have equal absolute configurations identical with that of the asymmetric carbon atoms of R,R-mben. 1H NMR spectra are reported and discussed in order to get information on the rotation of the olefinic ligand and other stereochemical features of the complexes. © 1980 American Chemical Society
