    Analysis of Turkey's import demand of fishery products

    WOS: 000292265600030In this study, economic factors which are effective upon the import demand of fishery products in Turkey were studied. Import demand of fishery products in Turkey is affected by the world prices, agriculture programs and policies of the governments. Turkey's import demand of fishery products was approached as a function of domestic prices, per capita income, lagged amount of import (t-1), exchange rate of the US dollar (USD)-Turkish lira (foreign exchange rate) and the factor of trend. Parameters were estimated with regression analysis. The study is a time series analysis and the data include the period between 1996 and 2008 and they are annual. Consequently, while the gross national product, domestic real prices, exchange rate of dollar and lagged import variable were found statistically significant among the factors that affect the analysis of Turkey's import demand of fishery products, trend factor was not found statistically significant

    Analysis of Long and Short Terms Fishery Landings of Koycegiz Lagoon (Turkey)

    WOS: 000445999900003In the present study, we analysed long and short terms fishery landings of Koycegiz Lagoon recorded by Dalko (Dalyan Fishery Cooperative) for sustainable fishery. These time series are long-term (1974-2016) data which include monthly short-term (2012-2016) in the more recent years. A combination of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Hierarchical Clustering Analysis (HCA) were used to determined characteristics of the lagoon. Grey mullets are the most abundant species accounting for 86% of the total biomass of the landing for the 43-year period, followed by Common carp, European eel, Sea bass, Gilthead sea bream and others. PCA values are highly correlated grey mullets, European eel and Sea bass for P1, Striped sea bream, Gilthead sea bream, Carp and other for PC2, respectively. The first discernible cluster comprised Gilthead sea bream, Striped sea bream, Sea bass, other and European eel. The second included carp and the third cluster was represented by Grey mullets.     The Forecast of the Future Production Amounts of the Some Fish Species Being Cultivated in Turkey

    WOS: 000285427600003In this study, current output of some fish species which are commonly cultivated in Turkey, such as Seabream (Sparus aurata), Seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Carp (Cyprinus carpio) is estimated for the future until 2008-2030. The year 2030 is taken as base since it provides parallelelism with The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the results of European Union. Current output of seabream, seabass, salmon, carp of the Turkish Statistical Institute of 1986-2007 and additionally, total aquaculture cultivation extents of Turkey were used for this purpose. Using the Genstat for Teaching Package Program on these data, autoregressive modeling was made with the Method of Time Series Analysis. Box-Cox transformation was applied for the data which do not comply with the normal distribution. Autocorrelation coefficients were calculated, the statistical significance of these coefficients were controlled at the level of 5% and tested whether they were stable or not. As a consequence, the probable estimation values determined for the species of Seabream, Seabass, Salmon and Carp are respectively, 70015, 88050, 126272 and 1391 ton for 2030. The total probable cultivation estimation value of Turkey was found as 284337 ton/year

    Classification of three Turkish olive cultivars from Aegean region based on their fatty acid composition

    WOS: 000294061700005In this study, fatty acid compositions of three olive cultivars oils (Ayvalik, Memecik, and Erkence) grown in Aegean region, the major olive production zone of Turkey, were classified by chemometric methods: principal component analysis and discriminant analysis (DA). A total of 187 oil samples were examined over the course of two harvest years (2001-2002 and 2002-2003). The samples were divided into three subgroups according to olive-growing zones: North Aegean (Ayvalik cultivar), South Aegean (Memecik), and A degrees zmir Peninsula (Erkence cultivar). Consistent with discriminant analysis, the predicted groupings in terms of the two harvest years were correctly separated as 98.50 and 96.60%, respectively.     Geographical Classification of Turkish Virgin Olive Oils from the Aegean Region for Two Harvest Years Based on Their Fatty Acid Profiles

The samples were divided into six groups according to the olive growing zones: Edremit Gulf (Ayvalik cultivar), Izmir province (AyvalA +/- k, Memeli, Memecik and Gemlik), AydA +/- n province (Memecik, Manzanilla and Gemlik), Mugla (Memecik), Manisa (Gemlik, Domat, Uslu, AyvalA +/- k), A degrees zmir Peninsula (Erkence cultivar) and Firms (poly-cultivar or commercial blends). Consistent with discriminant analysis (DA), the predicted grouping in terms of the two harvest years were correctly separated as 74.5 and 74.8%, respectively. The highest levels of predicted grouping for the two harvest years were found in the Edremit Gulf (AyvalA +/- k cultivar), Mugla province (Memecik cultivar) and A degrees zmir peninsula (Erkence cultivar) groups (as 90-100%).     WOS: 000588493100002In this study, it was aimed to examine socioeconomic conditions and reasons for participating in the 1st Prussian Carp Catching Competition, organized by Denizli Amateur Sportive Hand-line Fishers and Fishery Protection Association (DENOLDER) in Denizli Gokpinar Dam Pond. This organization, supported by Amateur Sportive Hand-line Fishing Federation and Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, has the purpose of introducing, ingratiating and binding hand-line fishing fanciers, also additionally and most importantly, raising awareness in the society for damages of ecologically harmful species to aquatic life, in our inner waters. A questionnaire was used, in order to conduct a direct interviewing of the individuals participating in the 1st Prussian Carp Catching Competition, and the original study data was obtained. the questionnaire consisted of 23 questions. the questionnaire results were evaluated, using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and EXCEL package programs. in total, 49 individuals filled in the questionnaire, in this competition, with a participation of 55 teams from six provinces. Moreover, all teams indicated that they would participate again, in case of a repetition of such an organization. It is essential to protect fishes, having an important place within fishery products, particularly natural species. It should be our responsibility to raise public awareness relating to invasive species
