A new genus, Parvulaltarostrum, with type species P. veeversi n.sp., isdescribed from the middle and upper parts of the Frasnian of the FitzroyBasin in Western Australia

A new genus, Eumetabotoechia, is proposed. It includes three speciesand ranges in age from the end of early to the end of middle Givetian. The type species, Rhynconella (?) Laura BILLINGS, E., 1860, and LeiorhynchusHuronensis NICHOLSON, H.A., 1874 are from the Province of Ontarioin Canada, and L. kelloggi HALL, J., 1867 is from the State of Ohio inthe United States of America

Two new genera are described from the Wiltz Beds (Upper Emsian) of the Eifel area: Astraelenia, type species A. losseni ( KAYSER, 1880), and Xahetomus, type species X. hexadaleidensis n. sp. Astraelenia is designated the type for the new family Astraeleniidae

Hopsyrhynchus, nouveau genre rhynchonellide du début du Givetien

During a revision of the early Givetian rhynchonellids from western North America that have been assigned to Eliorhynchus castanea (MEEL, 1867), it was found that they include a new genus. This is described as Ilopsyrhynchus, with I. iteinus n. gen., n. sp. from central Nevada selected as the type species

Deux genres Rhynchonellides nouveaux de la fin du Frasnien

Two new genera, Orbiculatisinurostrum and Ryocarhynchus, with type species O. laeve (GURICH, G., 1903) and R. tumidus (KAYSER, E., 1872), are described from the late Frasnian. The former genus is encountered in the lower part of the Palmatolepis triangularis Zone near Cracow (Poland). The latter one includes two species, and is the result of restricting the meaning of the genus Caryorhynchus CRICKMAY, C.H., 1952; it is found in the Palmatolepis gigas Zone — essentially Upper and Uppermost — of the southern border of the Dinant Basin (Belgium and France), the Aachen region (Germany), the Tafilalt (Morocco), and near Cracow

Transverse serial sections made in specimens of the type series of the genus Pugnoides have shown internal structures hitherto overlooked. From this results a new definition of the genus, a modified stratigraphic extension, the seperation of many species assigned to it and a new estimation of the analogies with genera considered as closely related

L'accroissement du nombre de genres Rhynchonellides dévoniens traduit-il une nécessité ou une option?

From an historical point of view, the increase in number of Devonian rhynchonellid genera was accomplished in four phases: removal of a blockage and slow start; slight increase; fulgurating acceleration; increased subdivision. Causes for this trend are analysed and inevitably lead to the following question: engulfed in such a spiral, are we getting closer to a more faithful image of reality, or, on the contrary, are we building edifices? The author firmly advocates the first alternative, the merits of which he demonstrates mainly because of the growing stratigraphical precision that well defined genera permit. Moreover, he announces that the saturation point is not yet within sight
