Estimates of electronic interaction parameters for LaO compounds (=Ti-Ni) from ab-initio approaches
We have analyzed the ab-initio local density approximation band structure
calculations for the family of perovskite oxides, LaO with =Ti-Ni
within a parametrized nearest neighbor tight-binding model and extracted
various interaction strengths. We study the systematics in these interaction
parameters across the transition metal series and discuss the relevance of
these in a many-body description of these oxides. The results obtained here
compare well with estimates of these parameters obtained via analysis of
electron spectroscopic results in conjunction with the Anderson impurity model.
The dependence of the hopping interaction strength, t, is found to be
approximately .Comment: 18 pages; 1 tex file+9 postscript files (appeared in Phys Rev B Oct

Phase diagram of asymmetric Fermi gas across Feshbach resonance
We study the phase diagram of the dilute two-component Fermi gas at zero
temperature as a function of the polarization and coupling strength. We map out
the detailed phase separations between superfluid and normal states near the
Feshbach resonance. We show that there are three different coexistence of
superfluid and normal phases corresponding to phase separated states between:
(I) the partially polarized superfluid and the fully polarized normal phases,
(II) the unpolarized superfluid and the fully polarized normal phases and (III)
the unpolarized superfluid and the partially polarized normal phases from
strong-coupling BEC side to weak-coupling BCS side. For pairing between two
species, we found this phase separation regime gets wider and moves toward the
BEC side for the majority species are heavier but shifts to BCS side and
becomes narrow if they are lighter.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to LT25 on June 200
Dynamic Scaling in a 2+1 Dimensional Limited Mobility Model of Epitaxial Growth
We study statistical scale invariance and dynamic scaling in a simple
solid-on-solid 2+1 - dimensional limited mobility discrete model of
nonequilibrium surface growth, which we believe should describe the low
temperature kinetic roughening properties of molecular beam epitaxy. The model
exhibits long-lived ``transient'' anomalous and multiaffine dynamic scaling
properties similar to that found in the corresponding 1+1 - dimensional
problem. Using large-scale simulations we obtain the relevant scaling
exponents, and compare with continuum theories.Comment: 5 pages, 4 ps figures included, RevTe
Chirality in Quantum Computation with Spin Cluster Qubits
We study corrections to the Heisenberg interaction between several lateral,
single-electron quantum dots. We show, using exact diagonalization, that
three-body chiral terms couple triangular configurations to external sources of
flux rather strongly. The chiral corrections impact single qubit encodings
utilizing loops of three or more Heisenberg coupled quantum dots.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Possible evidence of non-Fermi liquid behavior from quasi-one-dimensional indium nanowires
We report possible evidence of non-Fermi liquid (NFL) observed at room
temperature from the quasi one-dimensional (1D) indium (In) nanowires
self-assembled on Si(111)-77 surface. Using high-resolution
electron-energy-loss spectroscopy, we have measured energy and width
dispersions of a low energy intrasubband plasmon excitation in the In
nanowires. We observe the energy-momentum dispersion (q) in the low q
limit exactly as predicted by both NFL theory and the
random-phase-approximation. The unusual non-analytic width dispersion measured with an exponent =1.400.24, however,
is understood only by the NFL theory. Such an abnormal width dispersion of low
energy excitations may probe the NFL feature of a non-ideal 1D interacting
electron system despite the significantly suppressed spin-charge separation
(40 meV).Comment: 11 pages and 4 figure
Quantum-Classical Crossover and Apparent Metal-Insulator Transition in a Weakly Interacting 2D Fermi Liquid
We report the observation of a parallel magnetic field induced
metal-insulator transition (MIT) in a high-mobility two-dimensional electron
gas (2DEG) for which spin and localization physics most likely play no major
role. The high-mobility metallic phase at low field is consistent with the
established Fermi liquid transport theory including phonon scattering, whereas
the insulating phase at higher field shows a large negative temperature
dependence at resistances much smaller than the quantum of resistance, .
We argue that this observation is a direct manifestation of a quantum-classical
crossover arising predominantly from the magneto-orbital coupling between the
finite width of the 2DEG and the in-plane magnetic field.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
