Investigating Academic Acidevement And Student Evaluation Of Teacidng Effectiveness In Higher Education: A Case Study
mereka. Perhubungan antaq penilaian keberkesanan pengajaran para pelajar dan
persepsi kemahiran akademik pelajar juga dikaji.
This study is primarily an investigation into adult and young adult students'
evaluation of teaching effectiveness (SETE) in a Malaysian higher education setting.
The study also examines whether demographic factors such as age, gender and
ethnicity relate to SETE, students' academic achievement and their perceptions of
their academic skills. The possible relationship between SETE and students' academic
achievement is also investigated
British Policy Towards the Panjab, 1844-1849.
This thesis is a study of British Policy towards the Panjab between Hardinge's arrival in India as Governor-General and its annexation by his successor. The fundamental question to be answered is whether the British had a coherent plan to meet the problems posed by the lack of stability in the formerly useful buffer State between the Afghans and the British Empire in India. Policy was carried out through the North Western Agency and was much affected by the persons who held office there. Whether the Panjab was to remain an effective buffer State depended on the strength and disposition of the Darbar and the Chiefs. This in turn was affected by the Jagir and Revenue policies pursued by the British in the Jalandhar Doab as well as in the Lahore State. They have, therefore, been studied in some detail. The Summary Settlement and the other reforms accompanying it, which were effected after the Treaty of Bhairowal, in the Lahore State itself have been analysed. The consequences of their being effected by the British resident through the agency of British assistants when the old administrative machinery stood intact have been noted. The failure of policy as revealed in the course of the Second Sikh War has been traced. The circumstances that led Dalhousie to conclude that annexation was the only alternative left have been examined. The last Chapter in Cunningham's History of the Sikhs, which is a strong criticism of Hardinge's Policy towards the Panjab has been critically examined. The thesis has been written in the light of the Ripon, Peel and Broughton Papers in the British Museum, and of the Henry Lawrence and Broughton Papers in the India Office Library. Extensive use has also been made of the unpublished records in the India Office Library
FORECASTING MODEL OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION USING LEAST SQUARES SUPPORT VECTOR MACHINES
In the oil and gas industry, accurate measurement of gas is a very important aspect for the gas transmission operation. The outgoing gas flow during the transmission operation is monitored and maintained by a metering system. The metering system must be ensured reliable and dependable at all cost to maintain the billing integrity between distributors and customers. The main concern is products sold and returned as money worth product to seller and buyer. An existing system in Transmission Operation Division (TOD), PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB), Gurun is held responsible to calculate the energy consumption from the sales gas produced. The system consists of a turbine meter, measuring equipment which are pressure transmitter and temperature transmitter, gas chromatography and flow computer. However, the system is a standalone system that does not have any reference system to verify the integrity of it. Customers are billed according to the amount of energy consumption calculated and any error in calculation will cause loss of profit to the company and affect PETRONAS’s business credibility. As a solution, a Least Squares Support Vector Machines (LS-SVM) prediction model of energy consumption is proposed as a verification system of the outgoing gas flow. The model will predict the energy consumption and compare it with the results of the existing metering system to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the system. The billing integrity between PETRONAS and the customers could be maintained and in the future if the project is expanded, it will have the potential of saving of millions of dollars to Malaysian oil and gas companies
Rickshaw writings - A real mirror to Pakistani society
Cultural diversity can be seen in many forms. One specific area of interest would be the use of language in expressing opinions related to many aspects of a society. This particular study reports on the use of culturally influenced language, in order to express opinions as reflected on auto rickshaws in Lahore, Pakistan.Data was gathered by observations while travelling to various areas in Lahore, Pakistan. The qualitative analysis of the written discourse showed various aspects of life of the Lahorites, through different modes as were reflected by the writings on the rickshaws plying throughout the town
Politics of the United States and Asean Relations: Wheat Trade, Security, and Protectionism
This thesis is concerned with the development of the United States and ASEAN relationship in wheat trade, security and protectionism in an interdependent world. Trade issues have become important phenomena in explaining future state relationships. Limited information, except for security, was available for this study, because the issue of protectionism at the time of writing was an ongoing process within Congress. Materials were also sought from the libraries of the University of California at Berkeley and the National ~niversity of Singapore to supplement my work at Oklahoma State University.Political Scienc

Writing professional discourse: the challenges faced by Malaysian engineers
In Malaysia, English is taught and used as a second language. Nevertheless, English has become a requirement for employment and career advancement. Mastering English requires mastering the spoken and written aspects of the language, and written linguistic competence requires grammatical and pragmatic competence to produce a cognitively understandable text. In the petroleum industry, written professional discourse plays an important role as a core element of the communication process. Yet written workplace literacy in the petroleum industry in Malaysia has yet to be explored and thus requires investigation, particularly since it is anticipated that there will be an increase in the demand for engineers in Malaysia in the near future. Thus, in the interests of making suggestions for curriculum design, research exploring the actual written communication of Malaysian petroleum workers is necessary to understand what professionals need in real work situations, and through such needs analysis teaching methods can be evaluated and revised. This paper presents the findings of an inquiry into the challenges faced by Malaysian engineers in the petroleum industry while preparing job-related written communication. Data were obtained through on-site observations at work sites during field visits and semi-structured interviews conducted with 8 engineers from 4 key companies in the local petroleum industry. Findings were triangulated between field notes, interviews, and textual analysis of official company documents called 'work procedures'. Results showed that engineers engage in daily written communication and competence in writing is a crucial requirement for the petroleum industry. The findings presented here may be useful to ESP course designers for petro-chemical engineering at higher learning institutions in Malaysia
