Severe wound traction-blisters after inadequate dressing application following laparoscopic cholecystectomy: case report of a preventable complication

Abstract

Background

The inadequate application of postoperative dressings can lead to significant complications, including skin injuries, compartment syndromes, and potential limb loss. To our knowledge, the occurrence of post laparoscopic cholecystectomy related skin complications have not yet been reported in the peer-reviewed literature.

Case Presentation

Following laparoscopic cholecystectomy for symptomatic gallstone disease, a seventy eight year old healthy white male broke out in painful erythema on either side of his epigastric port site. Vesicles akin to a partial thickness burns were revealed upon removal of dressings. An unusual indentation created by the dressing, and skin traction by the dressing's adhesive edges were implicated, raising questions about technique of its application.

Conclusion

Incorrect application of wound dressings can disrupt skin architecture, causing painful blistering. This complication should not occur to patients, as it is theoretically 100% preventable. Avoidance of stretching adhesive dressings, and careful adherence to relevant manufacturers' instructions are recommended.</p

Assessment of teacher librarian job satisfaction in the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja
This study assessed job satisfaction of teacher librarians in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The entire population of 164 teacher librarians from all secondary schools within the FCT was used. One objective and a hypothesis were formulated to guide this study. They were analysed using percentages represented on tables and graphically illustrations. Survey method was adopted in carrying out the study. Responses on the questionnaire were in line with five point Likert scale type rating and analyzed descriptively, the result of the study revealed that the teacher librarian have high level of job satisfaction with personnel interaction, in the area of institution and environmental factors as well as interpersonal relationship, there was however, no significant relationship between motivation and job satisfaction. It was recommended that the application of motivational factors for enhancing teacher librarian’s performance in FCT secondary schools should be maintained since it was found to increase their level of job satisfaction
Diffusion and access to information on family planning in Rigachikun community of Kaduna State
This paper explores diffusion and access to information on family planning in Rigachikun Community of Kaduna State. in order to achieve the objectives of this study, the following research questions were raised: What type of information on family planning is available for household in Rigachikun Community? In what ways do household in Rigachikun Community access information on family planning? For what purpose do household use family planning information in Rigachikun Community? What challenges do household face in using information on family planning in Rigachikun Community? survey research design was adopted for the study. Thus, the population of household in Rigachikun community is 5,524. To determine the sample size, the Crejsie & Morgan determining sample size for research activities was used. Based on that, for a population of 5,000 the required sample size is 357. Therefore of the sample size for the study is three hundred and fifty seven (357) household in Rigachikun community. The research instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. Data collected for this study were analyzed using frequency distribution and percentage. The study reveals the following findings: Implant and injectables were the major type of information on family planning available among household in Rigachikun community, Kaduna State. Radio was the major access to information on family planning among household in Rigachikun community, Kaduna State. It was revealed that household in Rigachikun community used information on family planning for the purpose of Improving the health being of women and reduces health risks. Based on the findings of this study, the researcher concluded that Family Planning activities and services were the instruments through which a people or nation use to achieve objectives of reducing poverty, maternal and infant mortality, check population explosion, improve income of its citizens all for a better life. The study recommends that, Government (federal, state & local), individuals, philanthropic organizations and Non-governmental organizations should create awareness on information on the various types of family planning methods such as Information on Male Sterilization and Information on Male & female condoms among household in Rigachikun community
Computational modeling of a smart impeller actuated by shape memory alloys
Abstract: This paper demonstrates numerical investigations using analytical algorithms and advanced computer simulation package to study the performance of a pumping system and the best angle of attack for a Shape Memory Impeller. Comparing the analytical algorithm and simulation, it shows that the best angle of attack is 12 degree at the outlet angle with respect to the inlet angle. Increasing the angle of attack from 35 degree to 45 degree at the outlet there is huge increase in flow rate by 63.47% and slight decrease in the impeller Torque from 35 degrees to 42 degrees by 0.72%. This study successfully conceptualised a Shape Memory Smart Centrifugal Impeller that will increase fluid flow rate through a given system if the fluid temperature increases above a given transition temperature using NiTi Shape Memory Alloys was achieved
