The "Stand of Science" is a project of mobile science communication, that uses newsstand-like structures and other simple exhibition materials to bring science exhibitions to public locations as parks, schools, and events. It is driven by three main principles (1) the employment of low-cost and simple materials; (2) the connection of cultural manifestations and social issues to science, mainly by using artistic and media resources; (3) the joy aspect of science, by the use of games, recreation, and entertainment resources. In 2013, we started with initiatives more directly in schools, by involving teachers in the development of school projects with their students. We settled the work in two modalities, JOANINHA (Ladybug), for 4-7 years-old students from kindergarten to elementary, and ALICE for 11-14 years-old students of junior high school. In JOANINHA we perform activities with puppetry, logical games, songs, costumes, handcrafted toys and mockups, approaching themes as space exploration, robots, animal rights, and women in science. It foresees the parents´participationparents´participation as well, in workshops and in helping their kids to prepare exhibition materials. In ALICE we approached similar topics adapted to teenager´s interests, with TV series, pop-rock songs, handcrafted robots, simple experiments, role-playing humor sketches, science fiction and fantasy books, and so on. As for JOANINHA, in ALICE we promote a final exhibition to be for the schoolmates, parents, and the school community

In this work we present preliminary results of the L.Y.R.A. project-Laboratory of Inquiring in Robotics and Astronautics-a proposal that develops playful production interventions of robotic toys with low-cost materials and easy access. The interventions were focussed in the natural sciences, but also articulated with the arts and the Humanities by producing handmade toys by participants and discussions of STS themes.. We seek to investigate whether the proposal has stimulated the interest of students for the debate and for the production of these artifacts. The name L.Y.R.A. is a reference to the brazilian Jackie Lyra, Mechanical NASA's aerospace engineer

O discurso ideológico sobre Aristóteles nos livros didáticos de Física

    Get PDF

Modeling and simulation of a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Tag for Hospital Applications

Electromagnetism and all the principles associated with it have been studied extensively due, above all, to their applicability in several new technologies, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). This system, composed of a tag, a reader, and software, aimed at information processing, operates through wireless communication, thanks to the interaction between radio waves, more specifically, their transmission and reception. This technology becomes even more remarkable, from the integration of Artificial Intelligence, in directing the collected data, to AI algorithms, responsible for recognizing patterns, anticipating demands and improving processes. In this article, RFID technology is directed towards the hospital setting, building upon an in-depth theoretical study of improvement possibilities by integrating such systems into medical and hospital services. Furthermore, based on the modelling of an RFID tag with a chip, modifications are made to the original structure, with the insertion of resonator rings, resulting in miniaturization of the initial project, as well as redundancy in the reading process, results that were analysed in the software © CST Microwave Studio, given continuous computer simulations

The ITASAT – The Lessons Learned from the Mission Concept to the Operation

    Get PDF
The ITASAT Project was initiated as an effort of the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA) and the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) to train human resources to the Aerospace sector due to the lack of experience of the students in practical projects in the aerospace segment in Brazil. In this effort students were challenged to design, build and operate a satellite in a hands-on project. Along the project years several changes happened on the satellite configuration, going through a 100 kg satellite to a 6U CubeSat and this last configuration was designed, assembled and tested. In December ITASAT was launched and since its launch has been tracked and operated by the ground operation team. In this paper we will discuss the lessons learned during the project, since the decision to change the satellite size and re-thinking the scope of the project objectives, focusing on system engineering, Assembly Integration and Testing (AIT), Verification and Validation (V&V) and ground operations. The paper will present the challenges of the group of students in this hands-on project, the mistakes and hits along the project phases

This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with adherence to PrEP among MSM from two Portuguese-speaking countries, highlighting the opportunities and preventive strategies for the global health scenario. This was a cross-sectional analytical online survey conducted from January 2020 to May 2021 with MSM in Brazil and Portugal. For analysis of the data, the Poisson regression model was used to estimate the prevalence ratio (PR) for developing a model to evaluate the associated factors in both countries in a comparative and isolated way. Adherence to PrEP use corresponded to 19.5% (n = 1682) of the overall sample: 18.3% (n = 970) for Brazil and 21.5% (n = 712) for Portugal. Having more than two sex partners in the last 30 days (aPR: 30.87) and routinely undergoing HIV tests (aPR: 26.21) increased the use of this medication. Being an immigrant (PR: 1.36) and knowing the partner’s serological status (PR: 1.28) increased adherence to PrEP in Portugal, whereas, in Brazil, it was being an immigrant (PR: 0.83) and not knowing the serological status (PR: 2.24) that promoted the use of this medication. Our findings reinforce the need to invest in programs and strategies to improve access and adherence to PrEP, especially in key populations.publishersversionpublishe

Its approach is based on playful practices involving simple handcrafted experiments, artistic expressions and media artifacts to approach Science and its connections to social issues (Piassi, Vieira & Santos, 2017). Among the developed modalities of actions are the intervention programs, performed in a weekly basis with a fixed group of students of a given school. In these programs, a team of undergraduate mediators are supervised by graduate students (PhD and MSc candidates), to create and perform a series of recreational science activities involving films, books, comics, games, simple experiments, etc. The research intends to determine the efficacy of this communication modality concerning the students´ engagement toward Science. The actions are divided into two categories: JOANINHA (LADYBUG), for the early childhood audience and ALICE, intended for pre-teenager students. In this paper, we present some results of interventions programs performed by three of these teams on the following topics: animal rights, gender issues, and space and robotic technologies
