Lagrangian Floer potential of orbifold spheres

For each sphere with three orbifold points, we construct an algorithm to compute the open Gromov–Witten potential, which serves as the quantum-corrected Landau–Ginzburg mirror and is an infinite series in general. This gives the first class of general-type geometries whose full potentials can be computed. As a consequence we obtain an enumerative meaning of mirror maps for elliptic curve quotients. Furthermore, we prove that the open Gromov–Witten potential is convergent, even in the general-type cases, and has an isolated singularity at the origin, which is an important ingredient of proving homological mirror symmetry.National Research Foundation of Korea; 2010-0019516; 2012R1A1A2003117; 2013R1A1A1058646 - National Research Foundation of Kore

A STUDY ON THE TWO-ROW EFFECT IN THE SLOSHING PHENOMENON

    Get PDF
In this study, changes in fluid impact loads inside a tank were examined according to a two-row tank arrangement in an LNG-FPSO (Liquefied Natural Gas-Floating Production Storage Offloading) vessel. The motion RAO (Response Amplitude Operator) of the LNG-FPSO, coupled with the sloshing phenomenon inside the tank, was calculated by using HydroStar by Bureau Veritas. The motion simulation in the tank was conducted under filling ratios of 30%H, 60%H, and 80%H. The RAO in each condition was calculated according to the one-row and the two-row tank arrangement. The motion response spectrum using the calculated RAO and the JONSWAP (Joint North Sea Wave Analysis Project) spectrum were computed by implementing irregular motion according to each filling ratio and tank arrangement. The sloshing phenomenon inside the tank was implemented by using a 6-DOF (Degree Of Freedom) sloshing motion platform; impact pressure on the walls of the tank was measured with pressure sensors installed inside the tank. The sloshing experiment was conducted under the three filling ratios in the one-row and the two-row tank arrangement and impact loads were compared under each filling ratio according to the one-row and the two-row tank arrangement

Fulminant myocarditis managed with pulsatile extracorporeal life support; use of Twin Pulse Life support (T-PLSÂŽ)

Fulminant myocarditis frequently results in severe hemodynamic deterioration. High-dose vasopressors or sometimes mechanical circulatory support are required. We report on two cases of fulminant myocarditis successfully treated with pulsatile extracorporeal life support (T-PLSÂŽ, Twin Pulse Life support, New heart bio.BHK, Seoul, Korea). With T-PLS, we were able to provide mechanical support to patients until they recovered completely

Chemical homogeneity of wide binary system: An approach from Near-Infrared spectroscopy

Wide binaries, with separations between two stars from a few AU to more than several thousand AU, are valuable objects for various research topics in Galactic astronomy. As the number of newly reported wide binaries continues to increase, studying the chemical abundances of their component stars becomes more important. We conducted high-resolution near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy for six pairs of wide binary candidates using the Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrometer (IGRINS) at the Gemini-South telescope. One pair was excluded from the wide binary samples due to a significant difference in radial velocity between its component stars, while the remaining five pairs exhibited homogeneous properties in 3D motion and chemical composition among the pair stars. The differences in [Fe/H] ranged from 0.00 to 0.07 dex for these wide binary pairs. The abundance differences between components are comparable to the previous results from optical spectroscopy for other samples. In addition, when combining our data with literature data, it appears that the variation of abundance differences increases in wide binaries with larger separations. However, the SVO2324 and SVO3206 showed minimal differences in most elements despite their large separation, supporting the concept of multiple formation mechanisms depending on each wide binary. This study is the first approach to the chemical properties of wide binaries based on NIR spectroscopy. Our results further highlight that NIR spectroscopy is an effective tool for stellar chemical studies based on equivalent measurements of chemical abundances from the two stars in each wide binary system.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in A
