This paper looks into the function of human style relationship facets when applied to brands through a brand love relationship.Methodologically, this investigation defined two groups of respondents (from a questionnaire applied to 224 respondents): those who self-reported a brand love relationship and those who did not. These groups were compared through a Likert questionnaire in order to find evidence of key human relationship facets that run along a brand love relationship, such as the self-ideal and positive psychology. Although, we did not find significant effects of the three key variables, the descriptive statistics showed higher averages where expectedThis paper looks into the function of human style relationship facets when applied to brands through a brand love relationship.Methodologically, this investigation defined two groups of respondents (from a questionnaire applied to 224 respondents): those who self-reported a brand love relationship and those who did not. : In a pandemic situation, with climate change around the world, studies analyzing changes in travel patterns are welcome. This study combines three theories to propose a model on proenvironmental behavior intentions, namely, the theory of planned behavior, value–belief–norm theory and habit theory. This study aims to examine the role of social norms, personal norms and habit strength to explain pro-environmental behavior intentions. The authors collected 316 usable questionnaires from tourists in the well-known touristic Belem location in Lisbon. Personal norms were revealed to have the strongest association with pro-environmental behavior intentions, followed by habit strength. The study also identified different broad challenges to encouraging sustainable behaviors and use these to develop novel theoretical propositions and directions for future research. Finally, the authors outlined how practitioners aiming to encourage sustainable consumer behaviors can use this framework to achieve better results.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Loureiro, S. M. C., Rita, P., & Sarmento, E. M. (2020). What is the core essence of small city boutique hotels? International Journal of Culture, Tourism, and Hospitality Research, 14(1). https://doi.org/10.1108/IJCTHR-01-2019-0007Purpose: The purpose of this study is to contribute with new insights into the nature, dimensionality and measurement of the core essence of the small city boutique hotel (SCBH), something which has been limited in the literature to date. It further explores the conceptual relationships of SCBH with other constructs, providing greater understanding of the nature of these specific conceptual associations and showing that the SCBH scale exhibits construct validity. Design/methodology/approach: This study followed the Churchill’s paradigm to methodologically design the study and develop the scale. Based on an exploratory qualitative inquiry (one focus group and ten interviews) and quantitative assessment (two surveys), support was found for a three-dimensional scale. Findings: Results support the proposed measures of the scale (dream, hospitality and style) in terms of construct, convergent, discriminate, nomological and predictive validity. The findings also suggest that while authenticity acts as a SCBH antecedent, pleasant arousal and preference represent SCBH consequences. Originality/value: By developing and validating a SCBH scale for city destination, this study addresses an identified literature gap. Specifically, it conceptualizes SCBH as guests’ perception about core characteristics of SCBHs located in the city.authorsversionpublishe

The theme of the skills of teachers in the educational process, which is not a new issue and is still far from finding its ideal role, has been of great interest of researchers. In this work, we will try to understand how the activity of the teacher has changed. It is increasingly demanding the performance of the teacher or the educational level but also at other levels. The future teacher is to form throughout the life. He/she acquires knowledge, principles and values that are transmitted by the family and by the surrounding environment are internalized in living with the "other." The initial training is only the first stage of training, which is more and more carried throughout life. Thus, with this research project we want to understand how the teachers perceive the professional skills of teachers, based on the "Working Paper No. 3a, ME" Group's Mission - Accreditation of Teacher Training, which sought to define the profile of skills that the teacher should be able to demonstrate and even organize their own work performance. Finally, we also want to check whether there are differences in the perception of Typical Teacher and Ideal Teacher, for professional skills, the personality traits and emotions aroused in the students. Typical Teacher is that we can find in our schools and the Ideal Teacher is presented as the teacher we would like to find in our schools. Some of the conclusions drawn from the statistical data indicate that the ideal teacher is evaluated with values significantly higher in all dimensions. In large majority, the teachers agree that they not only have knowledge but also professional skills that are not just the domain of the contents to be taught. Moreover, in majority, they accept that the profession changes and its development requires that all teachers have new skills

Human branding : from attachment strength to loyalty

    Get PDF
Human branding is everywhere and within every individual. With the increase in the importance of technology and social media, human branding becomes increasingly relevant, but it is still a branding concept with much room to explore. Celebrities, such as actors and athletes, are the greatest examples of human brands, and with social media managing public image is key to success. This study aims to analyze the process by which attachment strength influences loyalty through intimate and public engagement. Thus, a sample of 321 participants, collected through social media platforms, allowed us to treat data and test the hypotheses of the proposed model. Relatedness is the most relevant driver of attachment strength and the flow from attachment to loyalty through public engagement.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF

Severe imported malaria in an intensive care unit: a review of 59 cases

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>In view of the close relationship of Portugal with African countries, particularly former Portuguese colonies, the diagnosis of malaria is not a rare thing. When a traveller returns ill from endemic areas, malaria should be the number one suspect. World Health Organization treatment guidelines recommend that adults with severe malaria should be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU).</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Severe cases of malaria in patients admitted to an ICU were reviewed retrospectively (1990-2011) and identification of variables associated with in-ICU mortality performed. Malaria prediction score (MPS), malaria score for adults (MSA), simplified acute physiology score (SAPSII) and a score based on WHO's malaria severe criteria were applied. Statistical analysis was performed using StataV12.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Fifty nine patients were included in the study, all but three were adults; 47 (79,6%) were male; parasitaemia on admission, quantified in 48/59 (81.3%) patients, was equal or greater than 2% in 47 of them (97.9%); the most common complications were thrombocytopaenia in 54 (91.5%) patients, associated with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in seven (11.8%), renal failure in 31 (52.5%) patients, 18 of which (30.5%) oliguric, shock in 29 (49.1%) patients, liver dysfunction in 27 (45.7%) patients, acidaemia in 23 (38.9%) patients, cerebral dysfunction in 22 (37.2%) patients, 11 of whom with unrousable coma, pulmonary oedema/ARDS in 22 (37.2%) patients, hypoglycaemia in 18 (30.5%) patients; 29 (49.1%) patients presented five or more dysfunctions. The case fatality rate was 15.2%. Comparing the four scores, the SAPS II and the WHO score were the most sensitive to death prediction. In the univariate analysis, death was associated with the SAPS II score, cerebral malaria, acute renal and respiratory failure, DIC, spontaneous bleeding, acidosis and hypoglycaemia. Age, partial immunity to malaria, delay in malaria diagnosis and the level of parasitaemia were not associated with death in this cohort.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Severe malaria cases should be continued monitored in the ICUs. SAPS II and the WHO score are good predictors of mortality in malaria patients, but other specific scores deserve to be studied prospectively.</p
