Modeling quasi-static magnetohydrodynamic turbulence with variable energy flux
In quasi-static MHD, experiments and numerical simulations reveal that the
energy spectrum is steeper than Kolmogorov's spectrum. To explain
this observation, we construct turbulence models based on variable energy flux,
which is caused by the Joule dissipation. In the first model, which is
applicable to small interaction parameters, the energy spectrum is a power law,
but with a spectral exponent steeper than -5/3. In the other limit of large
interaction parameters, the second model predicts an exponential energy
spectrum and flux. The model predictions are in good agreement with the
numerical results.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figure
Use of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Delivery
In recent years, there has been an amplified focus on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in various domains to resolve complex issues. Likewise, the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is growing while radically changing the face of healthcare delivery. AI is being employed in a myriad of settings including hospitals, clinical laboratories, and research facilities. AI approaches employing machines to sense and comprehend data like humans has opened up previously unavailable or unrecognised opportunities for clinical practitioners and health service organisations. Some examples include utilising AI approaches to analyse unstructured data such as photos, videos, physician notes to enable clinical decision making; use of intelligence interfaces to enhance patient engagement and compliance with treatment; and predictive modelling to manage patient flow and hospital capacity/resource allocation. Yet, there is an incomplete understanding of AI and even confusion as to what it is? Also, it is not completely clear what the implications are in using AI generally and in particular for clinicians? This chapter aims to cover these topics and also introduce the reader to the concept of AI, the theories behind AI programming and the various applications of AI in the medical domain
Finite Element Modeling of Transverse Post-Tensioned Joints in Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) Full-Scale Precast Bridge Deck Panels
The Accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques are gaining popularity among the departments of transportation (DOTs) due to their reductions of on-site construction time and traffic delays. One ABC technique that utilizes precast deck panels has demonstrated some advantages over normal cast-in-place construction, but has also demonstrated some serviceability issues such as cracks and water leakage to the transverse joints. Some of these problems are addressed by applying longitudinal prestressing. This thesis evaluates the service and ultimate capacities in both flexure and shear, of the finite element models of the post-tensioned system currently used by Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and a proposed curved-bolt system to confirm the experimental results. The panels were built and tested under negative moment in order to investigate a known problem, namely, tension in the deck concrete. Shear tests were performed on specimens with geometry designed to investigate the effects of high shear across the joint. The curved-bolt connection not only provides the necessary compressive stress across the transverse joint but also makes future replacement of a single deck panel possible without replacing the entire deck. Load-deflection, shear-deflection curves were obtained using the experimental tests and were used to compare with the values obtained from finite element analysis. In flexure, the ultimate load predicted by the finite element model was lower than the experimental ultimate load by 1% for the post-tensioned connection and 3% for the curved-bolt connection. The shear models predicted the ultimate shear reached, within 5% of the experimental values. The cracking pattern also matched closely. The yield and cracking moment of the curved-bolt connection predicted by the finite element model were lower by 13% and 2%, respectively, compared to the post-tensioned connection in flexure
Tutorials and Quiz Android application
Master of ScienceDepartment of Computing and Information SciencesDaniel A. AndresenTutorials and Quiz Android Mobile application is an application which gives you brief tutorials on various programming languages and technologies to the user who has installed this application. It gives video tutorials and training on different technologies. The mobile application also contains sample code, interview questions, and answers.
This application also conducts a quiz to the user who is interested in a particular technology for checking their knowledge on the subject. It has different levels like Basic Level and Advanced Level quiz. This application conducts a quiz in the form of multiple choice questions. After the completion of the quiz the application generates reports based on the quiz conducted.
The user can also test their knowledge on those technologies based on a timed quiz, we can include the above technology questions in this application. We can give a time frame for each question and all the questions are to be answered in that specified time period. Say for example we can give 20 seconds to answer a question. If the user gives an incorrect answer, will be exited out of the quiz
OPTIMIZATION OF ELECTROPORATION MEDIATED TRANSFORMATION OF LACTOBACILLUS PLANTARUM FOR INDUSTRIAL EXPLOITATION
Objective: The objective of our study was to evaluate different established electrotransformation protocols for their suitability on Lactobacillus plantarum. Methods: We tested strategies of electrical parameters in addition to already published electroporation methods proven to be successful in other Lactobacillus strains. Results: Our strain differed highly in transformation efficiencies and optimal growth conditions. Among the various methods performed, we observed high-efficiency protocol yielded 8X106 transformants, and the optimum electroporation parameter was found to be at 1500V.Conclusion: Independent of electroporation method Lactobacillus plantarum strain remained reluctant to high-efficiency transformation protocol
