Muyurina y el presente profundo: poéticas andino-amazónicas
Este libro es una trenza entre investigación, creación y oralidad. Su
origen se remonta a la canción “Memorias muertas” del álbum “Remembranza
Huamanguina” que el Trío Ayacucho diera a conocer en 1974, y que fuera hallada
hace poco en una calle de Lima. La primera estrofa de la canción se convirtió
en motivo poético o sonido subyacente que prestó el nombre al performance
MUYUNA (A place to move), hecho por jóvenes estudiantes y artistas de Cornell
University en 1986. Este mismo motivo dio origen al poema “Muyurina” de Fredy
A. Roncalla, palabra que en este libro/kipu funciona como lugar de encuentro de
varias voces y direcciones

Difícil es imaginar un elemento que la gran mayoría
nunca ha visto o tocado. Sin embargo, dicho elemento
mineral de la Madre Naturaleza se encuentra conectado
a la energía que consume nuestra civilización, a sus
comodidades y a algunas de las historias más terribles y
dolorosas del siglo XX y XXI.
La poesía de Juan Sánchez hace el Uranio visible no
como un objeto de estudio científico, sino mostrándonos
cómo es su relación con el ser humano. El poema “Uranio”
de este libro es un entretejido de historias, sentires
y hechos sobre la minería extractiva en los sagrados
territorios de las comunidades nativo americanas del
suroeste de los Estados Unidos. En este libro también hemos querido hacer visible una
conexión transpacífica, pues la industria extractiva del
uranio está ligada al desarrollo de la energía nuclear y las
armas nucleares (que utilizan el uranio como una de sus

Linear and nonlinear optical responses in the chiral multifold semimetal RhSi
Chiral topological semimetals are materials that break both inversion and
mirror symmetries. They host interesting phenomena such as the quantized
circular photogalvanic effect (CPGE) and the chiral magnetic effect. In this
work, we report a comprehensive theoretical and experimental analysis of the
linear and non-linear optical responses of the chiral topological semimetal
RhSi, which is known to host multifold fermions. We show that the
characteristic features of the optical conductivity, which display two distinct
quasi-linear regimes above and below 0.4 eV, can be linked to excitations of
different kinds of multifold fermions. The characteristic features of the CPGE,
which displays a sign change at 0.4 eV and a large non-quantized response peak
of around 160 at 0.7 eV, are explained by assuming that
the chemical potential crosses a flat hole band at the Brillouin zone center.
Our theory predicts that, in order to observe a quantized CPGE in RhSi, it is
necessary to increase the chemical potential as well as the quasiparticle
lifetime. More broadly our methodology, especially the development of the
broadband terahertz emission spectroscopy, could be widely applied to study
photo-galvanic effects in noncentrosymmetric materials and in topological
insulators in a contact-less way and accelerate the technological development
of efficient infrared detectors based on topological semimetals.Comment: Accepted in npj Quantum Materials; Abstract update
Venous Sinus Stenting for Low Pressure Gradient Stenoses in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
BACKGROUND: Medically refractory idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is frequently treated with venous sinus stenosis stenting with high success rates. Patient selection has been driven almost exclusively by identification of supraphysiological venous pressure gradients across stenotic regions based on theoretical assessment of likelihood of response.
OBJECTIVE: To explore the possibility of benefit in low venous pressure gradient patients.
METHODS: Using a single-center, prospectively maintained registry of patients with IIH undergoing venous stenting, we defined treatment groups by gradient pressures of ≤4, 5 to 8, and \u3e8 mmHg based on the most frequently previously published thresholds for stenting. Baseline demographics, clinical, and neuro-ophthalmological outcomes (including optical coherence tomography and Humphrey visual fields) were compared.
RESULTS: Among 53 patients, the mean age was 32 years and 70% female with a mean body mass index was 36 kg/m 2 . Baseline characteristics were similar between groups. The mean change in lumbar puncture opening pressure at 6 months poststenting was similar between the 3 groups (≤4, 5-8, and \u3e8 mmHg; 13.4, 12.9, and 12.4 cmH 2 O, P = .47). Papilledema improvement was observed across groups at 6 months (100, 93, and 86, P = .7) as were all clinical symptoms. The mean changes in optical coherence tomography retinal nerve fiber layer (-30, -54, and -104, P = .5) and mean deviation in Humphrey visual fields (60, 64, and 67, P = .5) at 6 weeks were not significantly different.
CONCLUSION: Patients with IH with low venous pressure gradient venous sinus stenosis seem to benefit equally from venous stenting compared with their higher gradient counterparts. Re-evaluation of our restrictive criteria for this potentially vision sparing intervention is warranted. Future prospective confirmatory studies are needed
Extra Virgin Olive Oil Contains a Phenolic Inhibitor of the Histone Demethylase LSD1/KDM1A
The lysine-specific histone demethylase 1A (LSD1) also known as lysine (K)-specific
demethylase 1A (KDM1A) is a central epigenetic regulator of metabolic reprogramming in
obesity-associated diseases, neurological disorders, and cancer. Here, we evaluated the ability
of oleacein, a biophenol secoiridoid naturally present in extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), to target
LSD1. Molecular docking and dynamic simulation approaches revealed that oleacein could target
the binding site of the LSD1 cofactor flavin adenosine dinucleotide with high affinity and at low
concentrations. At higher concentrations, oleacein was predicted to target the interaction of LSD1
with histone H3 and the LSD1 co-repressor (RCOR1/CoREST), likely disturbing the anchorage of
LSD1 to chromatin. AlphaScreen-based in vitro assays confirmed the ability of oleacein to act as
a direct inhibitor of recombinant LSD1, with an IC50 as low as 2.5 umol/L. Further, oleacein fully
suppressed the expression of the transcription factor SOX2 (SEX determining Region Y-box 2) in cancer
stem-like and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, which specifically occurs under the control of an
LSD1-targeted distal enhancer. Conversely, oleacein failed to modify ectopic SOX2 overexpression
driven by a constitutive promoter. Overall, our findings provide the first evidence that EVOO contains
a naturally occurring phenolic inhibitor of LSD1, and support the use of oleacein as a template to

Potential role of new molecular plasma signatures on cardiovascular risk stratification in asymptomatic individuals
The evaluation of cardiovascular (CV) risk is based on equations derived from epidemiological data in individuals beyond the limits of middle age such as the Framingham and SCORE risk assessments. Lifetime Risk calculator (QRisk®), estimates CV risk throughout a subjects' lifetime, allowing those. A more aggressive and earlier intervention to be identified and offered protection from the consequences of CV and renal disease. The search for molecular profiles in young people that allow a correct stratification of CV risk would be of great interest to adopt preventive therapeutic measures in individuals at high CV risk. To improve the selection of subjects susceptible to intervention with aged between 30-50 years, we have employed a multiple proteomic strategy to search for new markers of early CV disease or reported CV events and to evaluate their relationship with Lifetime Risk. Blood samples from 71 patients were classified into 3 groups according to their CV risk (healthy, with CV risk factors and with a previously reported CV event subjects) and they were analyzed using a high through quantitative proteomics approach. p27(Kip1 )is expressed in proliferating cells in its form phosphorylated on threonine 187
BACKGROUND: G1/S cell cycle progression requires p27(Kip1 )(p27) proteolysis, which is triggered by its phosphorylation on threonine (Thr) 187. Since its levels are abundant in quiescent and scarce in cycling cells, p27 is an approved marker for quiescent cells, extensively used in histopathology and cancer research. METHODS: However here we showed that by using a specific phosphorylation site (pThr187) antibody, p27 is detectable also in proliferative compartments of normal, dysplastic and neoplastic tissues. RESULTS: In fact, whereas un-phosphorylated p27 and MIB-1 showed a significant inverse correlation (Spearman R = -0.55; p < 0,001), pThr187-p27 was positively and significantly correlated with MIB-1 expression (Spearman R = 0.88; p < 0,001). Thus proliferating cells only stain for pThr187-p27, whereas they are un-reactive with the regular p27 antibodies. However increasing the sensitivity of the immunocytochemistry (ICH) by the use of an ultra sensitive detection system based on tiramide signal amplification, simultaneous expression and colocalisation of both forms of p27 was shown in proliferating compartments nuclei by double immunofluorescence and laser scanning confocal microscopy studies. CONCLUSION: Overall, our data suggest that p27 expression also occurs in proliferating cells compartments and the combined use of both regular and phospho- p27 antibodies is suggested
