The Influence of Cutting Condition on Surface Roughness in Face Milling Of Mild Steel

    Get PDF
This study is aimed to determine the influence of cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut on surface roughness in face milling of mild steel. Perthometer is being used to determine the surface roughness. Several experiments have been carried out under various cutting conditions. Roughness result shows that the surface is smoother as the cutting speed increases until it reaches the optimum speed. On the other hand cutting speed that is beyond the optimum value results in more vibration, thus generating rough surface. Meanwhile increasing the feed rate shows higher surface roughness. The depth of cut, by increasing the surface, is smoother. So the optimal value of cutting condition must be used to minimize surface roughness

Investment-linked Takaful is a recent innovation introduced in Malaysia. This study focuses on Investment-linked takaful plan selection in Malaysia. We have used a self-administered questionnaire to collect data from 143 respondents from the Klang Valley area. Data collected through the survey was analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis. Results indicate that fee payment and benefits play a significant role in Takaful operator selection while coverage and benefits affect the investment-linked product selection in Malaysia. This study is unique as it provides empirical evidence on the investment-linked takaful investment which is limited in supply. Results provided by this study can be useful for takaful operators in designing the most appropriate investment-linked product for attracting customers.

In certain business organization, acknowledging public perception towards their business practices may give a positive impact towards the future business performance. Similarly, to ensure the sustainable of Takaful industry as an alternative Islamic insurance, getting customers’ perception towards their marketing practice is important. It is so because without effective marketing practices, the Takaful products could not reach the public with the sole purpose as was planned in the earlier stage. This research thus proposes three constructs of relationship marketing and investigates the customers’ perception regarding the Takaful agents’ relationship marketing practices. It includes their Islamic ethical behaviour, product knowledge, and information communication. To achieve these objectives, this research adopted self-administered survey questionnaire and distributed it to the Takaful customers in Klang Valley area. Result from data analysis based on SPSS version 19 regards that the public particularly Muslim in rural area not totally agreed with the relationship marketing practices of their Takaful agent. This research contributes to strengthen the Takaful industry in reaching the same level with the conventional insurance particularly their effective marketing channel

    Get PDF
This paper presents the results for Head Injury Criteria (HIC) and Chest Severity Index (CSI) of an adult occupant in frontal impact. The component being studied is side member as impact energy absorber. Steel side member is used as the benchmark material, whereas aluminum alloy is used as lightweight material. Crash analyses are conducted using nonlinear finite element analysis software Ls-dyna. The effect of different types of aluminum alloy and component thickness on the HIC, CSI, weight and energy absorbed is assessed and discussed. A cost function is then formulated with the geometrical average method to solve the multi-objective problem. The HIC36 and CSI are set as minimum requirements in the optimization. The material used was Aluminium alloy of AA 5182 AA5751. It was found that AA5751 with inner and outer thickness of 2.8 mm and 4.9 mm respectively, provides a reduction in mass of 1.03 kg compared with steel and has energy absorbed of 11.9 kJ. The lowest values of HIC36 and CSI obtained are 1146 and 665.4 respectively

It is important to understand the natural frequencies and the mode shapes for automotive structure such as crash box as it will be subjected to the dynamic loading in its real application. In addition, it is also important to study other dynamic behaviour such as crash and buckling as crash box is one of energy absorbing member that is intended for car safety during collision. In this study, modal properties of three different crash box models joint by three different joint modelling strategies and also their crash and buckling behaviour was analysed and investigated. Computational frequency analysis, dynamic crash analysis and nonlinear buckling analysis was performed on all of crash box models. the crash box modelled with node equivalent method to represent the welded joint shows higher stiffness at the joining area and therefore shows higher value of natural frequencies that the model with CBEAM and CBAR elements as their joining elements. In term of crash behaviour, the model with CBEAM element shows higher reaction force compared to the CBEAM. This proves that different type of joint modelling strategies behaves differently

Investment-linked products (ILPs) are the latest innovations from the Islamic finance industry that offers investors the opportunity to get protection and investment through their family takaful plan. In this paper, we focus on exploring the preference toward investment-linked Takaful plan. Based on the propositions of the theory of interpersonal behaviour and the theory of Islamic consumer behaviour, we develop a conceptual model to investigate factors that could explain the preference toward investment-linked products (ILP). We have used a structured literature review to conduct a critical review of the literature. Attitude is positioned as mediation in the developed conceptual model. The conceptual model proposed in this study is the first of its kind and contributes to the existing literature of behavioural finance

Assessment of head injury criteria and chest severity index for frontal impact

    Get PDF
In this study, head injury criteria (HIC) and chest severity index (CSI) assessments are made based on finite element simulation. Simulations are carried out through nonlinear finite element analysis software LS-Dyna. The effect on the occupant’s injury of introducing aluminum alloy, AA5182, to automotive side members is highlighted in comparison to the existing model made of steel. The HIC and CSI are taken as the evaluation criteria. The injury criteria are assessed under two impact conditions: full frontal and oblique. The aim of this paper is to analyze the effect of lightweight materials on occupant crash protection. It was shown that the introduction of AA5182 provides a 30.77% reduction in mass while improving the HIC and CSI performance in full frontal impact; whereas only CSI is improved in oblique impact

Temperature control method optimization with global criterion genetic algorithm in thermal vacuum chamber for satellite testing

    Get PDF
The proportional integral derivative (PID) controller that is adopted in the temperature control system of thermal vacuum chamber (TVC) is manually tuned has caused the temperature profile required more time to stabilize and fluctuate during satellite testing. Thus, other method is required to do the tuning of the PID controller. An optimization algorithm is an alternative method that can be applied to do the PID tuning and an optimized system can be developed. In this study, the optimization algorithm that is able to do the PID tuning for temperature control system is investigated in order to be implemented in the TVC's temperature control system. The genetic algorithm (GA) is found to be the suitable method that can be implemented as it is able to optimize the settling time and overshoot very quickly in temperature control system compared to other methods. However, due to more than one objective aimed in this study, the global criterion genetic algorithm (GCGA), a multi objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) method become the best approach to be chosen. Two models were designed using PID controller and GCGA-PID controller for the TVC's temperature control system. Simulation testing is done and the settling time and overshoot value are measured to compare both models. Analysis suggests that the optimization tuning by using GCGA method improves the settling time 30% better than using the PID controller alone. Meanwhile, in terms of overshoot, the performance is increased by almost 99.85%. By applying the optimization algorithm, the TVC's temperature control method can be enhanced during satellite testing compare to the current manually implementation. (C) 2017 The Authors. This paper intends to review computational methods and high throughput automated tools for precisely prediction various functionalities of uncharacterized proteins based on their desired DNA sequence information alone. Then proposes a hybrid weighted network and Genetic Algorithm to improve prediction purpose. The main advantage of the method is the protein function and DNA sequence prediction can be computed precisely using best fitness parent in genetic algorithm. With the accomplishment of human genome sequencing, the number of sequence-known proteins has increased exponentially and the pace is much slower in determining their biological attributes. The gap between DNA sequence variants and their functionalities has become increasingly large. However, detection of sequences based on protein data bank has become benchmark for many researchers. As amount of DNA sequence data continues to increase, the fundamental problem stay at the front of genome analysis. In the course of developing these methods, the following matters were often needed to consider: benchmark dataset construction, gene sequence prediction, operating algorithm, anticipated accuracy, gene recommender and functional integrations. In this review, we are to discuss each of them, with a different focus on operational algorithms and how to increase the accuracy of DNA sequence variants predictio
