Puberty: Is Your Gingiva Having Mood Swings?
Objectives/aim: The purpose of this paper is to explore the effects on the different pathological changes in the oral cavity due to puberty, in both males and females. Hormonal changes caused by menstrual cycles, ovulation, the use contraceptives, and increased testosterone and estrogen levels.
Methods: This topic will be analyzed by thoroughly reviewing research on articles that relate to the oral health of individuals specifically between the ages of 12-18 years old.
Results: Research presents significant evidence that supports changes occurring in the oral cavity during an individual’s stage of puberty. These stages include ovulation, pre-menstruation, menstruation and males transitioning through puberty. During the puberty stage adolescents are more prone to have increased gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), gingival index, and bleeding on probing while research has shown no significant findings on plaque indexes or probing depths. Changes occurring during the menstrual cycle tend to influence the periodontium and induce inflammatory conditions as well. While the periodontium and inflammatory cytokines play a major role in the effects during puberty, changes in diet during this phase can increase the risk of developing caries as well.
Conclusion: When adolescents are transitioning into adulthood, there are multiple changes their body goes through. During the literature review, many changes happen during puberty significantly affecting the oral cavity were discovered. These changes have both positive and negative effects. Subpicosecond (320 fs) pulses from CW passively mode-locked external cavity two-section multiquantum well lasers
Pulses from a passively mode-locked two-section multi-quantum well laser coupled to an external cavity are compressed to subpicosecond pulse widths using an external grating telescope compressor. A minimum deconvolved pulse width of 0.32 ps is measured, close to the transform limit, with peak powers of 1.9 W
Correlations and enlarged superconducting phase of - chains of ultracold molecules on optical lattices
We compute physical properties across the phase diagram of the -
chain with long-range dipolar interactions, which describe ultracold polar
molecules on optical lattices. Our results obtained by the density-matrix
renormalization group (DMRG) indicate that superconductivity is enhanced when
the Ising component of the spin-spin interaction and the charge component
are tuned to zero, and even further by the long-range dipolar interactions.
At low densities, a substantially larger spin gap is obtained. We provide
evidence that long-range interactions lead to algebraically decaying
correlation functions despite the presence of a gap. Although this has recently
been observed in other long-range interacting spin and fermion models, the
correlations in our case have the peculiar property of having a small and
continuously varying exponent. We construct simple analytic models and
arguments to understand the most salient features.Comment: published version with minor modification
Non-equilibrium of Ionization and the Detection of Hot Plasma in Nanoflare-heated Coronal Loops
Impulsive nanoflares are expected to transiently heat the plasma confined in
coronal loops to temperatures of the order of 10 MK. Such hot plasma is hardly
detected in quiet and active regions, outside flares. During rapid and short
heat pulses in rarified loops the plasma can be highly out of equilibrium of
ionization. Here we investigate the effects of the non-equilibrium of
ionization (NEI) on the detection of hot plasma in coronal loops.
Time-dependent loop hydrodynamic simulations are specifically devoted to this
task, including saturated thermal conduction, and coupled to the detailed
solution of the equations of ionization rate for several abundant elements. In
our simulations, initially cool and rarified magnetic flux tubes are heated to
10 MK by nanoflares deposited either at the footpoints or at the loop apex. We
test for different pulse durations, and find that, due to NEI effects, the loop
plasma may never be detected at temperatures above ~5 MK for heat pulses
shorter than about 1 min. We discuss some implications in the framework of

Clinical and biochemical correlates of serum L-ergothioneine concentrations in community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults
Background: Despite the increasing interest towards the biological role of L-ergothioneine, little is known about the serum concentrations of this unusual aminothiol in older adults. We addressed this issue in a representative sample of communitydwelling middle-aged and older adults.
Methods: Body mass index, estimated glomerular filtration rate, serum concentrations of L-ergothioneine, taurine, homocysteine, cysteine, glutathione, cysteinylglycine, and glutamylcysteine were evaluated in 439 subjects (age 55–85 years) randomly selected from the Hunter Community Study.
Results: Median L-ergothioneine concentration in the entire cohort was 1.01 IQR 0.78–1.33 mmol/L. Concentrations were not affected by gender (P = 0.41) or by presence of chronic medical conditions (P = 0.15). By considering only healthy subjects, we defined a reference interval for L-ergothioneine serum concentrations from 0.36 (90% CI 0.31–0.44) to 3.08 (90% CI 2.45–3.76) mmol/L. Using stepwise multiple linear regression analysis L-ergothioneine was negatively correlated with age (rpartial =20.15; P = 0.0018) and with glutamylcysteine concentrations (rpartial =20.13; P = 0.0063).
Conclusions: A thorough analysis of serum L-ergothioneine concentrations was performed in a large group of communitydwelling middle-aged and older adults. Reference intervals were established. Age and glutamylcysteine were independently negatively associated with L-ergothioneine serum concentration.</br
Dynamical properties of the sine-Gordon quantum spin magnet Cu-PM at zero and finite temperature
The material copper pyrimidine dinitrate (Cu-PM) is a quasi-one-dimensional
spin system described by the spin-1/2 XXZ Heisenberg antiferromagnet with
Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions. Based on numerical results obtained by the
density-matrix renormalization group, exact diagonalization, and accompanying
electron spin resonance (ESR) experiments we revisit the spin dynamics of this
compound in an applied magnetic field. Our calculations for momentum and
frequency-resolved dynamical quantities give direct access to the intensity of
the elementary excitations at both zero and finite temperature. This allows us
to study the system beyond the low-energy description by the quantum
sine-Gordon model. We find a deviation from the Lorentz invariant dispersion
for the single-soliton resonance. Furthermore, our calculations only confirm
the presence of the strongest boundary bound state previously derived from a
boundary sine-Gordon field theory, while composite boundary-bulk excitations
have too low intensities to be observable. Upon increasing the temperature, we
find a temperature-induced crossover of the soliton and the emergence of new
features, such as interbreather transitions. The latter observation is
confirmed by our ESR experiments on Cu-PM over a wide range of the applied

Robotic versus laparoscopic approach in colonic resections for cancer and Benign diseases. Systematic review and meta-analysis
Objectives The aim of this systematic review and meta-Analysis is to compare robotic colectomy (RC) with laparoscopic colectomy (LC) in terms of intraoperative and postoperative outcomes. Materials and Methods A systematic literature search was performed to retrieve comparative studies of robotic and laparoscopic colectomy. The databases searched were PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from January 2000 to October 2014. The Odds ratio, Risk difference and Mean difference were used as the summary statistics. Results A total of 12 studies, which included a total of 4,148 patients who had undergone robotic or laparoscopic colectomy, were included and analyzed. RC demonstrated a longer operative time (MD 41.52, P<0.00001) and higher cost (MD 2.42, P<0.00001) than did LC. The time to first flatus passage (MD-0.51, P = 0.003) and the length of hospital stay (MD-0.68, P = 0.01) were significantly shorter after RC. Additionally, the intraoperative blood loss (MD-16.82, P<0.00001) was significantly less in RC. There was also a significantly lower incidence of overall postoperative complications (OR 0.74, P = 0.02) and wound infections (RD-0.02, P = 0.03) after RC. No differences in the postoperative ileus, in the anastomotic leak, or in the conversion to open surgery rate and in the number of harvested lymph nodes outcomes were found between the approaches. Conclusions The present meta-Analysis, mainly based on observational studies, suggests that RC is more time-consuming and expensive than laparoscopy but that it results in faster recovery of bowel function, a shorter hospital stay, less blood loss and lower rates of both overall postoperative complications and wound infections. Measurement of the Blackbody Radiation Shift of the 133Cs Hyperfine Transition in an Atomic Fountain
We used a Cs atomic fountain frequency standard to measure the Stark shift on
the ground state hyperfine transiton frequency in cesium (9.2 GHz) due to the
electric field generated by the blackbody radiation. The measures relative
shift at 300 K is -1.43(11)e-14 and agrees with our theoretical evaluation
-1.49(07)e-14. This value differs from the currently accepted one
-1.69(04)e-14. The difference has a significant implication on the accuracy of
frequency standards, in clocks comparison, and in a variety of high precision
