The Need for New Anti-Hepatitis C Virus Therapeutic Strategies : Targeting the cellular micro-ribonucleic acids?
Infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a worldwide problem. Patients with chronic HCV infection who are non-responders to standard therapy represent a growing population within the HCV epidemic.Novel, more efficient and tolerable therapies are urgently needed. This review discusses the recent results showing that targeting miR-122, a micro-ribonucleic acid (MicroRNA) that enhances HCV replication, is a new anti-HCV therapy with a high barrier to resistance
On the strong uniform consistency for relative error of the regression function estimator for censoring times series model.
Consider a random vector (X, T), where X is d-dimensional and T is one-dimensional. We suppose that the random variable T is subject to random right censoring and satisfies the α-mixing property. The aim of this paper is to study the behavior of the kernel estimator of the relative error regression and to establish its uniform almost sure consistency with rate. Furthermore, we have highlighted the covariance term which measures the dependency. The simulation study shows that the proposed estimator performs well for a finite sample size in different cases
Seismic Energy Assessment of Buildings with Tuned Vibration Absorbers
Publisher's version (útgefin grein)Seismic analysis and energy assessment of building installed with distributed tuned vibration absorbers (d-TVAs) are presented. The performance of d-TVAs is compared with single tuned vibration absorber (STVA) installed at the top of the building. The placements of the d-TVAs are based on the modal properties of the uncontrolled and controlled buildings. The governing equations of motion of the building with the STVA and d-TVAs are solved by employing Newmark’s integration method. Various energies under earthquake ground excitations are computed to study the effectiveness of using the STVA and d-TVAs. It is concluded that the use of the d-TVAs is the most competent because it effectively dissipates the seismic energy, and they are convenient to install requiring reduced space, as are placed at various floors.Peer Reviewe
This study analyzes the factors that determine the use of webs 2.0 by professionals and students (i.e., residents) in the nursing and medical fields in Colombia when providing health care in the medical centers in which they are employed. Using correlational-explanatory research, this paper conducted interviews of a representative sample of members (n= 424) of the studied population (e=+/- 4.8 and 1-α=0.95). The obtained data reveal a low level of use of currently available digital resources despite the high level of self-perception of this use and a moderately high assessment of the usefulness of these types of resource while performing professional work. Gender, age, having children, socioeconomic status, training level and the years of experience of the members of the study population significantly affect the use of webs 2.0 social-level resources available today. Improve this use and facilitate a change of attitude for it could simplify meeting their responsibilities within the Colombian health-care system.
Functional relative error regression under left truncation and right censoring
The nonparametric estimators built by minimizing the mean squared relative
error are gaining in popularity for their robustness in the presence of
outliers in comparison to the Nadaraya Watson estimators. In this paper we
build a relative error regression function estimator in the case of a
functional explanatory variable and a left truncated and right censored scalar
variable. The pointwise and uniform convergence of the estimator is proved and
its performance is assessed by a numerical study in particularly the robustness
which is highlighted using the influence function as a measure of robustness
Seismic Response Mitigation of Base-Isolated Buildings
Earthquake response mitigation of a base-isolated (BI) building equipped with (i) a single tuned mass damper at the top of the building, (ii) multiple tuned mass dampers (MTMDs) at the top of the building, and (iii) MTMDs distributed on different floors of the building (d-MTMDs) is studied. The shear-type buildings are modeled by considering only one lateral degree of freedom (DOF) at the floor level. Numerical approach of Newmark\u27s integration is adopted for solving the coupled, governing differential equations of motion of 5- and 10-story BI buildings with and without TMD schemes. A set of 40 earthquake ground motions, scaled 80 times to get 3200 ground motions, is used to develop simplified fragility curves in terms of the isolator maximum displacement. Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) is used to develop simplified fragility curves for the maximum target isolator displacement. It is found that TMDs are efficient in reducing the bearing displacement, top floor acceleration, and base shear of the BI buildings. In addition, it was noticed that TMDs are efficient in reducing the probability of failure of BI building. Further, it is found that the MTMDs placed at the top floor and d-MTMDs on different floors of BI buildings are more efficient in decreasing the probability of failure of the BI building when compared with STMD
