    Equivalence principle in context of large uniform acceleration - a quantum mechanical perspective

    We study the effect of large acceleration of an uniformly accelerated frame on the validity of weak equivalence principle. Specifically we demonstrate how the behaviour of free quantum particle, as observed by an observer with large uniform acceleration, completely changes from that of a quantum particle emmarsed in a uniform gravitational field. We also extend our analysis to the simplest noncommutative space scenario to show that while spatial noncommutativity does not affect the quantum particle in a gravitational field, it does alter the energy eigenvalues of a quantum particle as seen from a frame with very large uniform acceleration.Comment: 7 pages, laTex, no figur

    RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN REPEATED SPRINT ABILITY AND ACCURACY OF SOCCER SHOOTING PERFORMANCE IN YOUNG PLAYERS

    Soccer is an intermittent sport in which players require an ultimate level of physical fitness. On the pitch, repeated sprint capability fulfills the physical fitness demands. Shooting accuracy is a significant attacking skill and occurs repeatedly in a match. The purpose of the present study was to know repeated sprint ability and its relationship with accuracy of soccer shooting performance of Bangladeshi young players. The study was carried out in 70 male soccer players aged between 16 to 19 years. Accuracy of soccer shooting and repeated sprint ability assessed using Loughbrough soccer shooting test and repeated sprint ability test. Data was analyzed using Pearson correlation of coefficient and multiple regression equation. The moderate relationship was found between repeated sprint ability and accuracy of soccer shooting except sprint decrement rate. It is recommended that a proper training schedule must be arranged and implemented to develop the accuracy of shooing performance. Therefore, while selecting soccer players for the team repeated sprint ability would also be taken into consideration along with the soccer technique and skills.  Article visualizations

    INTRODUCTION OF A TEST BATTERY FOR IDENTIFICATION OF TALENT IN FEMALE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS

    Purpose: To develop a standardized test battery for the selection and identification of talented female volleyball players. Methods: Two hundred (N=200) junior national level female volleyball players (Mage=15.5 years & SDage=± 1.0) from five states in India have voluntarily participated in this study. Total 22 test items comprise of eight anthropometric measurements, eight physical fitness and six volleyball skills were administered on the subject according to standard procedure. Results: After administering item analysis, residual correlation matrix, and factor analysis eight test items i.e. weight, height, vertical jump, spiking, setting, service, service reception & passing and blocking were finally elicited to constitute the test battery for identification of talent in female volleyball players. The reliability coefficient using split-half was 0.82 and for validity index item-sum correlation coefficients were 0.73 to 0.79 (

    Evaluation the results of surgical management of traumatic paraplegia in traumatic thoracolumbar fractures

    Background: Thoracolumbar spine fractures are common injuries that can result in significant disability, deformity and neurological deficit. Aim of this study was to evaluate the results of surgical management of traumatic paraplegia, complete or incomplete as classified by Frankel scoring.Methods: A prospective study was conducted in patients attending outdoor and emergency department of Orthopedics of a tertiary care teaching institute in Kolkata, West Bengal with traumatic paraplegia involving the dorsolumbar spine. The important objectives are the time for recovery of various functions like sensory, motor and bowel and bladder function, comparison between early and late decompression, results of posterolateral fusion and time taken for solid bony fusion after operation. Total 46 cases were selected within a minimum of 6-month post-operative follow-up of which 4 cases lost in follow-up. Data collected from patient records included age, sex, time from injury to hospitalization, initial neurological status as per Frankel Score, MRI findings, surgery performed, postoperative course and neurological status at the time of discharge and latest follow up. Patients lost to follow up were not studied for outcome analysis.Results: When decompression done within 1st week in incomplete paraplegia, 80% of the patients showed return of grade 3 power. In complete paraplegia cases, 11% of the patients had return of power up to grade 3 when decompression done within 1 week, where no cases showed return of grade 3 power when decompression done after 2nd or 3rd week.Conclusions: After recovery from spinal shock, the earlier the surgical compression done, the better the neurological and bowel/bladder function recovery both in complete and incomplete paraplegic cases. Reduction is better and easy and less time consuming in early decompression than in late. Motor recovery can continue for over 6 months after decompression
