Jewels of meaning

The present manuscript was created by a Fulani scholar whose name remains unknown. The copy was based on a manuscript composed by Najlu Bintu Safwata Abdul Mutallib. Najlu had, in turn, copied his version from a text originally authored by Sidi Ali Harazim Baradah of Egypt. Baradah's original text was written in 1213/H. The text is well-known among the followers of Tijaniyya for whom it remains a key cult text. According to information from the custodian, the writing used in the present manuscript is a typical local Haalpulaar style. As for the content, the text provides biographical details about the birth, education and life of Tijanniyya Sufi founder Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani. The text is contains 6 chapters, each subdivided into parts. In addition to bibliographical elements on Ahmad al-Tijani, the text outlines the different rites required in the Sufi order and their benefits. It describes the ideal relationship between the shaykh/guide and his follower, as well as other esoteric rituals. It includes answers to questions that were addressed to Ahmad al-Tijani. The text lists also a number of miracles that Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani had performed during his lifetime.Le présent manuscrit a été créé par un érudit peul dont le nom reste inconnu. La copie était basée sur un manuscrit composé par Najlu Bintu Safwata Abdul Mutallib. Najlu avait, à son tour, copié sa version à partir d'un texte rédigé à l'origine par Sidi Ali Harazim Baradah d'Egypte. Le texte original de Baradah a été écrit en 1213 / H. Le texte est bien connu des adeptes de Tijaniyya pour qui il reste un texte culte clé. Selon les informations du gardien, l'écriture utilisée dans le présent manuscrit est un style haalpulaar local typique. Quant au contenu, le texte fournit des détails biographiques sur la naissance, l'éducation et la vie du fondateur de Tijanniyya Sufi Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani. Le texte contient 6 chapitres, chacun subdivisé en parties.
