    Exclusive Breastfeeding Knowledge among Primiparous Mothers

    OBJECTIVES The study’s objective was to assess the knowledge of primiparous mothers for exclusive breastfeeding to babies for the first six months on their first postnatal follow-up. METHODOLOGY A cross-sectional descriptive was conducted at Pediatrics Department, KRL Hospital Islamabad, for six months over 100 women from October 2022 to March 2023. A self-administered questionnaire was used to obtain information from the study participants. Females with primi gravida were selected, and interviews were conducted on a specific breastfeeding awareness questionnaire. The participant with correct and incorrect responses scored 1 and 0, respectively. Participants with scores of 0-4 were regarded as having poor knowledge, 4-7 as average and 7-10 as good knowledge regarding breastfeeding. The latest SPSS version analyzed Data. RESULTSResults show that the mean age was 24 years SD ± 1.2. Forty-one per cent of mothers were illiterate, 42% had Primary education, 15% had secondary school education, and only 2 % were university educated. Fifty-nine per cent of mothers were housewives, 29% were students, and 12% were working women. Moreover, 21% of mothers had poor knowledge of breastfeeding, 12% had average knowledge of breastfeeding, and 67% had good knowledge of breastfeeding. CONCLUSION Our study concludes that the knowledge of the primiparous mothers about breastfeeding was adequate

    Hospital-based ultra-sonographic prevalence and spectrum of thyroid incidentalomas in Pakistani population

    Introduction: Thyroid incidentalomas (TIs) are clinically asymptomatic nodules found accidentally during imaging studies ordered for some other reasons. Being easily accessible, non-invasive, and inexpensive, thyroid ultrasound (US) is a key investigation in the management of thyroid nodules.Methods: This ultrasound-based cross-sectional study was performed in the radiology department of a major tertiary care hospital. Every second patient visiting the emergency department was a potential candidate for a thyroid ultrasound. Patients having ages greater than 20 years were included in the study.Results: A total of 250 patients were included in the study. Out of these, 175 were female and 75 were male. The majority (54.80%) were in the age group 21-30 years. Nodules were found in 65 (26%) patients and in the majority of cases (67.7%) they were multiple in number. Associated lymphadenopathy was seen in only one patient. Thyroid nodules were more common in females as compared to males (75.38% versus 24.62%). According to Thyroid Imaging and Reporting Data System (TI-RADS) classification, the majority of the nodules were falling in TI-RADS 1 (74%) followed by TI-RADS 3 (9.60%) and 4A (8.80%).Conclusion: The thyroid nodules are more commonly seen in females as compared to males. A significant association is seen between the frequency of thyroid nodules and increasing age. The majority of thyroid nodules fall in TI-RADS 1 category followed by TI-RADS 3 and 4A

    Effects of Microwave and Light Emitting Diode as Disinfection Methods on the Dimensional Stability of Polymethyl Methacrylate and Polyamide Denture Base Resin

    Objective: To compare the effects of microwave and light emitting diode disinfection on the dimensional stability of two denture base materials; polymethyl methacrylate and polyamide. Study Design: In-vitro study Place and Duration of Study: Peshawar Dental College and Material Research Laboratories, University of Peshawar from 10 June 2021 to 8 December 2021. Materials and Methods: Fifteen specimens each for polymethylmethacrylate and polyamide were divided into three groups, control, microwave & light emitting diode. The specimens for microwave group were irradiated at 1000W for 3 minutes, thrice a week. The specimens for light emitting diode group were disinfected in a device for 30 minutes, thrice a week. The control group specimens were placed in distilled water for 4 weeks. Dimensions were measured before disinfection, and four weeks after the assigned disinfection. The mean and the standard deviation of the differences between three groups were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and after obtaining significant values, through post hoc Tukey HSD. Results: For polymethylmethacrylate highest dimensional difference (-9.02mm) was noted for microwave disinfected group while the control group showed the lowest value (-6.99mm). For polyamide, the highest dimensional changes were recorded for light emitting diode group (8.66mm) and the lowest (-7mm) for the control group. Statistical analysis showed that the differences were significant for both polymethylmethacrylate and polyamide when compared with the control (p0.05) Conclusion: No significant difference in dimensional stability of both the denture base resins was observed after disinfection with microwave and light emitting diode

    MHD boundary layer flow of an incompressible upper-convected maxwell fluid by optimal homotopy asymptotic method

    In this article, the magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) boundary layer flow of an Upper-Convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid has been studied. The governing equations of the MHD boundary layer flow of UCM fluid have been reduced to nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs) by using similarity transformation. The basic idea of Optimal Homotopy Asymptotic Method (OHAM) for the nonlinear ODEs has been presented. The results obtained by OHAM have been compared with those of Homotpy Perturbation Method (HPM) and numerical Boundary Value Problem Method in order to verify accuracy of the proposed method. The effect of the Hartman and Deborah numbers has been discussed. It has been observed that with increase in Hartman number, velocity component steadily decreases and when increasing the magnetic force, thickness of the boundary layer decreases. The obtained solutions show that OHAM is an effective, simpler, easier, and explicit method

    An Extension of the Optimal Homotopy Asymptotic Method to Coupled Schrödinger-KdV Equation

    We consider the approximate solution of the coupled Schrödinger-KdV equation by using the extended optimal homotopy asymptotic method (OHAM). We obtained the extended OHAM solution of the problem and compared with the exact, variational iteration method (VIM) and homotopy perturbation method (HPM) solutions. The obtained solution shows that extended OHAM is effective, simpler, easier, and explicit and gives a suitable way to control the convergence of the approximate solution
