    Kajian Analisis Keperluan: Pembangunan Modul Pembelajaran Literasi Tenaga Pengintegrasian STEM Sekolah Rendah

    Kajian analisis keperluan dilaksanakan bertujuan untuk melihat isu dan permasalahan topik tenaga dan elektrik murid sekolah rendah di daerah Kota Kinabalu yang membawa kepada perlunya pembangunan modul literasi tenaga pengintegrasian STEM. Kajian ini dilaksanakan secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Kajian kualitatif yang menggunakan persampelan bertujuan melibatkan tiga orang guru dan empat orang murid menggunakan kaedah temu bual separa struktur manakala kajian kuantitatif melibatkan 100 orang murid responden menggunakan borang soal selidik keperluan murid. Hasil kajian kualitatif diperolehi berdasarkan kepada ciri keperluan yang dinyatakan oleh Morrison et. al iaitu i) keperluan sedia ada murid dan guru, dan ii) keperluan perasaan murid dan guru. Keperluan sedia ada murid dan guru dilihat melalui topik yang sukar diajar dan dipelajari, pengalaman pembelajaran murid, amalan pengajaran guru dan masalah yang dihadapi guru semasa mengajar topik tersebut. Keperluan perasaan iaitu keperluan untuk memperbaiki prestasi diri pula dilihat melalui keperluan yang diharapkan oleh murid semasa topik ini diajar dan keperluan guru dalam pengajaran topik ini. Kajian kuantitatif mempunyai 13 item soal selidik yang dianalisis secara deskriptif melalui skor peratus terdiri daripada lima kriteria iaitu tahap pengetahuan tenaga, amalan penggunaan tenaga, sikap terhadap tenaga, pengalaman pembelajaran dan keperluan strategi pembelajaran yang diharapkan. Dapatan daripada semua item dalam soal selidik menunjukkan peratus yang tinggi terhadap keperluan pembangunan modul untuk topik pembelajaran Tenaga dan Elektrik. Kesimpulannya, isu dan jurang permasalahan yang wujud membawa kepada perlunya pembangunan modul literasi tenaga dalam kalangan murid sekolah rendah di daerah ini agar literasi tenaga yang merangkumi aspek pengetahuan, sikap dan tingkah laku murid terhadap tenaga dapat ditingkatkan

    Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meneroka kefahaman Pengetahuan Pedagogi Kandungan (PPK) guru bukan pengkhususan mata pelajaran Reka Bentuk dan Teknologi (RBT) di Sekolah Menengah. Kajian ini adalah kajian kualitatif single case yang melibatkan dua orang guru bukan pengkhususan mata pelajaran RBT dipilih sebagai peserta kajian. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kaedah temu bual, pemerhatian dan juga analisis dokumen. Proses analisis data melibatkan tiga peringkat koding dalam Grounded Theory iaitu open coding, axial coding dan selective coding. Hasil kajian mendapati kedua peserta belum memahami dan menguasai sepenuhnya hala tuju, matlamat dan fokus KSSM RBT. Selain itu, mereka juga masih menghadapi masalah dalam menguasai isi kandungan mata pelajaran tersebut dengan baik. Dari aspek pengetahuan pedagogi, walaupun peserta kajian sedar tentang pendekatan-pendekatan PdPc yang dicadangkan dalam DSKP KSSM mata pelajaran RBT, namun mereka kurang menggunakan pendekatan tersebut dan masih cenderung menggunakan pendekatan pengajaran tradisional yang lebih berpusatkan kepada guru dan menggunakan kaedah syarahan semasa proses PdPc

    The Development and Validation of Science Achievement Test

    Academic achievement is often regarded as a determinant of academic success. One of the most common assessment tools to evaluate the student achievement is through a well set achievement test. The main objective of the study was to develop and validate an achievement test in Science for senior secondary school students of grade 10. A Science Achievement Test (SAT) was developed by an excellent teacher in science subject based on Malaysia Science Curriculum Specification. The SAT consists of 50 multiple choice questions, which include the all 8 chapters in grade 10 science. The SAT had been validated by experts and analysed to check the difficulty index (p) and discrimination index (d), internal consistency reliability. Data were obtained from a purposive sampling of 50 students in a pilot study carried out in a secondary school in Sarawak, Malaysia. Based on the difficulty index, there are 12 easy items, 33 moderate items and 5 difficult items. 7 items found to be poor items and needed to be modified or removed due to the poor discriminating power. The reliability of SAT based on KR20 and Split half method showed the coefficient of 0.862 and 0.851 respectively. From the study, the SAT was a valid and reliable tool for measuring the students achievement in science.     Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menyelidik dan mengetahui impak personaliti, kemahiran, tahap kompetensi teras, latihan profesional serta strategi amalan profesional pentadbir terhadap komitmen guru di sekolah-sekolah menengah di Sabah. Negara memerlukan tranformasi sistem pendidikan dan golongan pentadbir dilihat sebagai elemen terpenting dalam membangunkan sekolah berpestasi tinggi bagi menghadapi cabaran Alaf ke-21. Kerangka kajian adalah berdasarkan Model Tret Kepimpinan Utama Northouse(2003, 2007), Model Kompetensi Pemimpin Sekolah IAB (2009), Model Tiga Kemahiran Katz (1974), Kerangka Kepemimpinan Efektif oleh Strike, Sims, Mann dan Whilhite (2016) dan Komitmen Guru (Danneta, 2002). Reka bentuk kajian adalah menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan persampelan secara rawak berstrata daripada 1440 sampel di 30 buah sekolah menengah bandar dan 30 buah sekolah menengah luar bandar. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam kajian ini merupakan satu set soal selidik yang dibina sendiri oleh pengkaji berdasarkan kepada pemerhatian dan sorotan kajian. Dapatan kajian daripada penyelidikan ini nanti diharap dapat memberikan satu inovasi tentang strategi terbaik untuk menyedia dan melahirkan calon pengetua atau guru besar yang berkelayakan tinggi untuk memimpin organisasi sekolah dan menjayakan Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Negara (PPPM 2013-2025)

    Using WEDPI learning package to upgrade teacher's skills on information technology

    The change in teaching techniques which applies information technology brings about a paradigm shift in our country's educational system. However, past researches have shown that the application of information technology in classrooms is still at an unsatisfactory level. This is caused by a group of teachers who haven't been able to master the basic skills of information technology application even after attending the courses. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to determine the level of skillfulness of primary school teachers - especially those in the interiors - on information technology, and thereafter develop a multimedia learning package (WEDPI Package for Learning) which will hopefully assist these weak teachers to increase their level of skillfulness in information technology. WEDPI refers to the productivity tools, which includes applications for word-processing (Microsoft Word), electronic spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), database (Microsoft Access), presentation (Microsoft PowerPoint) and the Internet. This research adopted the quantitative approach and the ADDIE model was used in the development of this multimedia learning package. To obtain information on the level of skillfulness, the researcher carried out a hands-on test. The pre-experimental designs, which are the pre-test and post-test, were executed to determine if there were any difference in the level of skillfulness of the teachers after using the WEDPI Package for Learning. The research findings showed that teachers involved gave positive comments about the experience in using this stand alone learning material. The respondents also stated that the WEDPI Package for Learning is easy to use, flexible and is able to help them increase their level of skills in information technology. This is supported by the t-test results which show that there is a significant difference in the achievement of teachers' scores

    Effectiveness of Robotic Gaming Towards Students Motivation for Respiration Topic

    The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of learning robot game on student motivation for cell respiration topic. A total of 474 students oneyear module 1 & 3 involving three colleges Kedah Matriculation College, Perlis Matriculation College and Perak Matriculation College. The motivational questionnaire on learning materials developed by Keller (1987) was used in the study to measure student motivation. This study uses a quantitative non-survey approach with quasi-experimental design involving treatment and control groups. Robots developed using the Arduino-uno brain and coding processes for robot coordination through the software Scratch for Arduino (S4A). Student motivation was measured at three different time periods (pre-questionnaire, post-questionnaire and postquestionnaire 2). The two statistical test was performed, repeated analysis of variance (ANOVA) and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) one way at significant level p<0.05, Mauchly test and also the effect size as measurement was performed at three different time periods. The results of the analysis showed that both control and treatment groups showed significant improvement in three periods based on motivation with p <0.05. Howeversuch a size effect shows that the treatment group has a high impact and the desired zone effect from the learning material compared to the control group

    Quantitative study: assessing technological problem solving and thinking skills among primary school children

    This program was conducted to analyze the effect of a robotic program in assessing technological problem-solving among primary school children. The content of learning module, which consist of technological problem-solving as well as visible thinking activities, had gone through expert validation before the analytical calculation commenced. Technological Problem Solving Inventory (PSI-TECH) was utilised to measure the technological problem solving. Quasi-experiments were implemented in this study, involving experimental and control group which were equal and homogeneous in selected characteristics. The robotic and basic visual coding program was conducted for five months, with an hour of lesson each week, consistent with the school syllabus and activities. Results were obtained by collecting the data before and after the program following a quantitative analysis of t-test and MANOVA. Result had shown a significance positive value for the experimental group after the program. This study contributes in the field of education, in investigating the technological problem-solving skills among students. In addition, help to diversify the studies in the field of robotics

    Parenting Styles of The Kadazandusun Community in Rural Areas of Sabah in Ensuring Child’s Success in School

    Today, many KadazanDusun children who live in rural areas, whose parents are without educational background and earn a living as farmers, have successfully entered public tertiary level education institutions (IPTA) or private tertiary level education institutions (IPTS). This development has prompted this study to identify the parenting styles involved in ensuring the success of children in school and thus succeeding in furthering to tertiary level. For data collection, this study choses the qualitative approach. Thus, to obtain the required data, interviews were carried out with parents who have more than one child studying at IPTA/IPTS, self-employed in their hometown and had no opportunity to formal education. The respondents were chosen through purposive and snowball selection. The findings show that both authoritarian and authoritative parenting styles are practiced by the KadazanDusun parents in ensuring that children are successful in school. The children who were also interviewed agreed these styles are practiced because of the difficulties in the parents’ lives due to the lack of good education. Therefore, the parents want to ensure their children to succeed in their education for a better future. The parents do not want their economic problems which they are facing now to be inherited by their children

    Exploring the impact of robotics program in enhancing students’ attitude towards science

    The use of educational technology tools and program in education has been vital in Malaysia due to its benefits. Although many studies have proven these programs benefits for students’ academic improvement, very less studies have focus on students’ improvement towards attitude. Hence, the objective of this research was to explore the impact of robotics program in enhancing students' attitude towards Science. The study involved 474 10 years old students from the states of Selangor and Malacca, Malaysia. A quantitative research design was employed, utilizing a quasi-experimental approach with a control group and an experimental group using pre-test and post-test measurements. A questionnaire was administered to both the experimental and control groups to collect the necessary data. The collected data were analysed using Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test, with a significance level of 0.05, using SPSS 25 software. The results indicated a significant change (α ≤ 0.05) in the attitude towards science for the experimental group that received the robotics program, as compared to the control group
