Scalar CFTs and Their Large N Limits

We study scalar conformal field theories whose large NN spectrum is fixed by the operator dimensions of either Ising model or Lee-Yang edge singularity. Using numerical bootstrap to study CFTs with SNβŠ—Z2S_N\otimes Z_2 symmetry, we find a series of kinks whose locations approach (ΔσIsing,ΔϡIsing)(\Delta^{\text{Ising}}_{\sigma},\Delta^{\text{Ising}}_{\epsilon}) at Nβ†’βˆžN\rightarrow \infty. Setting N=4N=4, we study the cubic anisotropic fixed point with three spin components. As byproducts of our numerical bootstrap work, we discover another series of kinks whose identification with previous known CFTs remains a mystery. We also show that "minimal models" of W3\mathcal{W}_3 algebra saturate the numerical bootstrap bounds of CFTs with S3S_3 symmetry.Comment: 29 pages, 5 figure

Bootstrapping Mixed Correlators in the Five Dimensional Critical O(N) Models

We use the conformal bootstrap approach to explore 5D5D CFTs with O(N)O(N) global symmetry, which contain NN scalars Ο•i\phi_i transforming as O(N)O(N) vector. Specifically, we study multiple four-point correlators of the leading O(N)O(N) vector Ο•i\phi_i and the O(N)O(N) singlet Οƒ\sigma. The crossing symmetry of the four-point functions and the unitarity condition provide nontrivial constraints on the scaling dimensions (Δϕ\Delta_\phi, Δσ\Delta_\sigma) of Ο•i\phi_i and Οƒ\sigma. With reasonable assumptions on the gaps between scaling dimensions of Ο•i\phi_i (Οƒ\sigma) and the next O(N)O(N) vector (singlet) scalar, we are able to isolate the scaling dimensions (Δϕ(\Delta_\phi, Δσ)\Delta_\sigma) in small islands. In particular, for large N=500N=500, the isolated region is highly consistent with the result obtained from large NN expansion. We also study the interacting O(N)O(N) CFTs for 1β©½Nβ©½1001\leqslant N\leqslant100. Isolated regions on (Δϕ,Δσ)(\Delta_\phi,\Delta_\sigma) plane are obtained using conformal bootstrap program with lower order of derivatives Ξ›\Lambda; however, they disappear after increasing Ξ›\Lambda. We think these islands are corresponding to interacting but nonunitary O(N)O(N) CFTs. Our results provide a lower bound on the critical value Nc>100N_c>100, below which the interacting O(N)O(N) CFTs turn into nonunitary. The critical value is unexpectedly large comparing with previous estimations.Comment: 28 pages, 4 figure

We calculate the finite temperature three-point correlation function for primary fields in a 2D conformal field theory in momentum space. This result has applications to any strongly coupled field theory with a 2D CFT dual, as well as to Kerr/CFT.Comment: 6 page

Emergence of Cloud Computing: An Institutional Innovation Perspective

    Get PDF
Today’s global IT service industry is undergoing a collective movement toward cloud computing. This study draws upon the institutional theory to conceptualize the social processes surrounding the emergence of the global cloud computing market. Through a qualitative case study based on archives and interviews with a leading multinational IT service vendor, the research shows that as cloud computing gains increasing legitimacy as a new market category, the vendor develops a portfolio of strategies and leverages a political toolkit to respond to and shape the emergence and evolution of the market

Visual inspiration from modern art- My reflections on symbolism, surrealism, and impressionism

My thesis project is a digital graphics book demonstrating my reflections on three schools of Modern Art: Symbolism, Surrealism, and Impressionism. I was inspired by the artists\u27 elegant masterpieces, so I created my own characters and scenes inspired by the three schools, and integrated them into my art world to express my aesthetic taste. It will take the viewers on a trip of the visual appreciation of Modern Art through my eyes. All the images in the book are implemented in 3D computer-generated environment and with 2D stylized hand drawings. The 3D images are the representation of my comprehension of the three art schools; the 2D images incorporate my personal artistic style. The major challenge for me was to properly demonstrate my reflections of the specific artistic genre. The Cultural Frame Management: The Emergence of Cultural Intelligence in Chinese IT Service Vendors

    Get PDF
As China transforms itself toward a leading destination for global IT service outsourcing, major Chinese vendors increasingly face the challenge of collaborating simultaneously and effectively with three major client bases with diverse national cultural backgrounds, namely domestic, Asia especially Japan, and the West especially the U.S. and Western Europe. This provides a good opportunity to study how firm-level cultural intelligence is formed within vendors. To explore this question, qualitative case studies of twelve leading China-based IT service vendors, including all of the most globally recognized Chinese vendors, were conducted. Based on interviews with top and middle level managers, and drawing on the practice-oriented view of culture and the cultural frame perspective, this paper develops the notion of collective cultural frame and identifies the process of cultural frame management within the vendor. This process functions as a mechanism by which firm-level cultural intelligence emerges within vendor organizations
