Corporate governance in people's credit banks in Indonesia: A challenge for a better future
The formulation of corporate governance standards in People's Credit Banks (PCBs) has taken a long time. In its development, after the 1997 Indonesian financial crisis, from 1998 to 2014, a number of acts and regulations that directly or indirectly govern corporate governance standards in PCBs were promulgated by Indonesian authorities. Nevertheless, the standard in PCBs are still poor. Just recently in March and December 2015, the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (IFSA) issued two more main regulations concerning corporate governance standards in PCBs. As a result, the standards have become more complex and need to be further studied
On the Conceptualization of Force in Johannes Kepler’s Corpus: An Interplay Between Physics/Mathematics and Metaphysics
In this chapter, we present the concept of force in Kepler. We follow the
development of this concept during Kepler’s scientific career, starting from his early
considerations in the Mysterium Cosmographicum (1596) until his ripest conceptions
expounded in the Epitome Astronomiae Copernicanae (1618–1621). Kepler
tried to supply a dynamical explanation to the planetary movements. This is an
important novelty because astronomy was traditionally a kinematical science. Based
on the main accredited literature we present a historical account and theoretical/
nature of science (NoS) developments: (1) Keplerian forces; (2) physical astronomy;
and (3) orbits, force, and the relation between distances and forces. Koyr\ue9 had
a prominent role in the studies on astronomical revolution and on Kepler. He was
also important in fully clarifying the pivotal function that physical astronomy—and
hence the concept of force—had in Kepler’s system of the world. Indeed, Koyr\ue9 is
still nowadays an almost unavoidable reference point for Kepler’s Forschung. We
refer to several interpretations of his. This is the reason why we think appropriate to
present this work in homage to Alexandre Koyr\ue9
Police-Induced Confessions, Risk Factors, and Recommendations: Looking Ahead
Reviewing the literature on police-induced confessions, we identified suspect characteristics and interrogation tactics that influence confessions and their effects on juries. We concluded with a call for the mandatory electronic recording of interrogations and a consideration of other possible reforms. The preceding commentaries make important substantive points that can lead us forward-on the effects of videotaping of interrogations on case dispositions; on the study of non-custodial methods, such as the controversial Mr. Big technique; and on an analysis of why confessions, once withdrawn, elicit such intractable responses compared to statements given by child and adult victims. Toward these ends, we hope that this issue provides a platform for future research aimed at improving the diagnostic value of confession evidence
