Inherited Twistor-Space Structure of Gravity Loop Amplitudes

At tree-level, gravity amplitudes are obtainable directly from gauge theory amplitudes via the Kawai, Lewellen and Tye closed-open string relations. We explain how the unitarity method allows us to use these relations to obtain coefficients of box integrals appearing in one-loop N=8 supergravity amplitudes from the recent computation of the coefficients for N=4 super-Yang-Mills non-maximally-helicity-violating amplitudes. We argue from factorisation that these box coefficients determine the one-loop N=8 supergravity amplitudes, although this remains to be proven. We also show that twistor-space properties of the N=8 supergravity amplitudes are inherited from the corresponding properties of N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory. We give a number of examples illustrating these ideas.Comment: 32 pages, minor typos correcte

Supersymmetry Relations Between Contributions To One-Loop Gauge Boson Amplitudes

We apply ideas motivated by string theory to improve the calculational efficiency of one-loop weak interaction processes with massive external gauge bosons. In certain cases ``supersymmetry'' relations between diagrams with a fermion loop and with a gauge boson loop hold. This is explicitly illustrated for a particular one-loop standard model process with four-external gauge bosons. The supersymmetry relations can be used to provide further significant improvements in calculational efficiency.Comment: 21 pages of plain TeX + 5 PostScript figures (compressed and uuencoded), UCLA/93/TEP/36 and DTP/93/8

    Variant supercurrents and Noether procedure

Consistent supercurrent multiplets are naturally associated with linearized off-shell supergravity models. In arXiv:1002.4932 we presented the hierarchy of such supercurrents which correspond to all the models for linearized 4D N = 1 supergravity classified a few years ago. Here we analyze the correspondence between the most general supercurrent given in arXiv:1002.4932 and the one obtained eight years ago in hep-th/0110131 using the superfield Noether procedure. We apply the Noether procedure to the general N = 1 supersymmetric nonlinear sigma-model and show that it naturally leads to the so-called S-multiplet, revitalized in arXiv:1002.2228.Comment: 6 page

    Twistors, Harmonics and Holomorphic Chern-Simons

We show that the off-shell N=3 action of N=4 super Yang-Mills can be written as a holomorphic Chern-Simons action whose Dolbeault operator is constructed from a complex-real (CR) structure of harmonic space. We also show that the local space-time operators can be written as a Penrose transform on the coset SU(3)/(U(1) \times U(1)). We observe a strong similarity to ambitwistor space constructions.Comment: 34 pages, 3 figures, v2: replaced with published version, v3: Added referenc

Background independent action for double field theory

    Get PDF
Double field theory describes a massless subsector of closed string theory with both momentum and winding excitations. The gauge algebra is governed by the Courant bracket in certain subsectors of this double field theory. We construct the associated nonlinear background-independent action that is T-duality invariant and realizes the Courant gauge algebra. The action is the sum of a standard action for gravity, antisymmetric tensor, and dilaton fields written with ordinary derivatives, a similar action for dual fields with dual derivatives, and a mixed term that is needed for gauge invariance.Comment: 45 pages, v2: minor corrections, refs. added, to appear in JHE

Feynman Rules for the Rational Part of the Standard Model One-loop Amplitudes in the 't Hooft-Veltman Îł5\gamma_5 Scheme

We study Feynman rules for the rational part RR of the Standard Model amplitudes at one-loop level in the 't Hooft-Veltman Îł5\gamma_5 scheme. Comparing our results for quantum chromodynamics and electroweak 1-loop amplitudes with that obtained based on the Kreimer-Korner-Schilcher (KKS) Îł5\gamma_5 scheme, we find the latter result can be recovered when our Îł5\gamma_5 scheme becomes identical (by setting g5s=1g5s=1 in our expressions) with the KKS scheme. As an independent check, we also calculate Feynman rules obtained in the KKS scheme, finding our results in complete agreement with formulae presented in the literature. Our results, which are studied in two different Îł5\gamma_5 schemes, may be useful for clarifying the Îł5\gamma_5 problem in dimensional regularization. They are helpful to eliminate or find ambiguities arising from different dimensional regularization schemes.Comment: Version published in JHEP, presentation improved, 41 pages, 10 figure

MHV Vertices and Scattering Amplitudes in Gauge Theory

The generic googly amplitudes in gauge theory are computed by using the Cachazo-Svrcek-Witten approach to perturbative calculation in gauge theory and the results are in agreement with the previously well-known ones. Within this approach we also discuss the parity transformation, charge conjugation and the dual Ward identity. We also extend this calculation to include fermions and the googly amplitudes with a single quark-anti-quark pair are obtained correctly from fermionic MHV vertices. At the end we briefly discuss the possible extension of this approach to gravity.Comment: Latex file, 38 pages, 15 figures; v2, minor changes, references added; v2, minor changes, 2 references adde

    N=2 supergravity and supercurrents

We address the problem of classifying all N=2 supercurrent multiplets in four space-time dimensions. For this purpose we consider the minimal formulation of N=2 Poincare supergravity with a tensor compensator, and derive its linearized action in terms of three N=2 off-shell multiplets: an unconstrained scalar superfield, a vector multiplet, and a tensor multiplet. Such an action was ruled out to exist in the past. Using the action constructed, one can derive other models for linearized N=2 supergravity by applying N=2 superfield duality transformations. The action depends parametrically on a constant non-vanishing real isotriplet g^{ij}=g^{ji} which originates as an expectation value of the tensor compensator. Upon reduction to N=1 superfields, we show that the model describes two dually equivalent formulations for the massless multiplet (1,3/2)+(3/2,2) depending on a choice of g^{ij}. In the case g^{11}=g^{22}=0, the action describes (i) new minimal N=1 supergravity; and (ii) the Fradkin-Vasiliev-de Wit-van Holten gravitino multiplet. In the case g^{12}=0, on the other hand, the action describes (i) old minimal N=1 supergravity; and (ii) the Ogievetsky-Sokatchev gravitino multiplet.Comment: 40 pages; v2: added references, some comments, new appendi

The property of maximal transcendentality in the N=4 SYM

We show results for the universal anomalous dimension gamma_{uni}(j) of Wilson twist-2 operators in the N=4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in the first three orders of perturbation theory. These expressions are obtained by extracting the most complicated contributions from the corresponding anomalous dimensions in QCD.Comment: 6 pages, published in the Proceedings of International Bogolyubov Conference "Problems of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics" (dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of N.N.
