Symmetry Energy in the Equation of State of Asymmetric Nuclear Matte

The symmetry energy is an important quantity in the equation of state of isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. This currently unknown quantity is key to understanding the structure of systems as diverse as the neutron-rich nuclei and neutron stars. At TAMU, we have carried out studies, aimed at understanding the symmetry energy, in a variety of reactions such as, the multifragmentation of 40^{40}Ar, 40^{40}Ca + 58^{58}Fe, 58^{58}Ni and 58^{58}Ni, 58^{58}Fe + 58^{58}Ni, 58^{58}Fe reactions at 25 - 53 AMeV, and deep-inelastic reactions of 86^{86}Kr + 124,112^{124,112}Sn, 64,58^{64,58}Ni (25 AMeV), 64^{64}Ni + 64,58^{64,58}Ni, 112,124^{112,124}Sn, 232^{232}Th, 208^{208}Pb (25 AMeV) and 136^{136}Xe + 64,58^{64,58}Ni, 112,124^{112,124}Sn, 232^{232}Th, 197^{197}Au (20 AMeV). Here we present an overview of some of the results obtained from these studies. The results are analyzed within the framework of statistical and dynamical models, and have important implications for future experiments using beams of neutron-rich nuclei.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, talk presented at VI Latin American Symposium on Nuclear Physics and Application

The Influence of Cause-Related Marketing on Millennials’ Purchase Intentions: Evidence of CSR from an Emerging Economy

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been implemented through sponsorships, philanthropy, and cause-related marketing (CRM), amongst which CRM has aroused the interest of many academicians and stakeholders. The study aims to examine the antecedents of cause-related marketing while considering attitude as a mediator to test its relationship with the purchase intention. The snowball sampling technique for data collection was administered to Indian millennial consumers from the regions of Karnataka and Kerala. A total of 313 valid cases were selected for the analysis, which employed partial least squares (PLS) based on structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings have shown that a positive relationship exists between cause participation and purchase intention. Further, product/cause congruence & consumer/cause identification had a positive impact on attitude, while attitude, in turn, showed a favorable association with the purchase intention. This study disclosed the relative importance of the compatibility between the social causes supported by the company with its engaged business while adopting CRM campaigns, and highlighted the need for the involvement of consumers in the CRM programs for their effectiveness

Effective nucleon mass and the nuclear caloric curve

Assuming a schematic form of the nucleon effective mass as a function of nuclear excitation energy and mass, we provide a simple explanation for understanding the experimentally observed mass dependence of the nuclear caloric curve. It is observed that the excitation energy at which the caloric curve enters into a plateau region, could be sensitive to the nuclear mass evolution of the effective nucleon mass.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for publication in Phys. Line Profiles of Cores within Clusters. III. What is the most reliable tracer of core collapse in dense clusters?

Recent observational and theoretical investigations have emphasised the importance of filamentary networks within molecular clouds as sites of star formation. Since such environments are more complex than those of isolated cores, it is essential to understand how the observed line profiles from collapsing cores with non-spherical geometry are affected by filaments. In this study, we investigate line profile asymmetries by performing radiative transfer calculations on hydrodynamic models of three collapsing cores that are embedded in filaments. We compare the results to those that are expected for isolated cores. We model the five lowest rotational transition line (J = 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, 4-3, and 5-4) of both optically thick (HCN, HCO+^+) as well as optically thin (N2_2H+^+, H13^{13}CO+^+) molecules using constant abundance laws. We find that less than 50% of simulated (1-0) transition lines show blue infall asymmetries due to obscuration by the surrounding filament. However, the fraction of collapsing cores that have a blue asymmetric emission line profile rises to 90% when observed in the (4-3) transition. Since the densest gas towards the collapsing core can excite higher rotational states, upper level transitions are more likely to produce blue asymmetric emission profiles. We conclude that even in irregular, embedded cores one can trace infalling gas motions with blue asymmetric line profiles of optically thick lines by observing higher transitions. The best tracer of collapse motions of our sample is the (4-3) transition of HCN, but the (3-2) and (5-4) transitions of both HCN and HCO+^+ are also good tracers.Comment: accepted by MNRAS; 13 pages, 16 figures, 6 table

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorder of reproductive age affecting 5% to 10% of women worldwide. It is a heterogenous, multifactorial, complex genetic disorder. PCOS receives a considerable attention because of its high prevalence and metabolic, reproductive and cardiovascular consequences. Methods: A cross sectional observation study of 100 PCOS patients was carried out between January 2014 to July 2015 in Gynaecology out-patient and Infertility OPD, Justice K. S. Hegde charitable hospital, Mangalore. The clinical, biochemical and hormonal profile of these patients were analysed and correlation was done between clinical features and biochemical and hormonal profile. Results: The prevalence of PCOS was 6.3% in the Gynaecology out-patient visits and 37.14% among infertile women. Menstrual irregularity was the most common complaint accounting for 31% followed by infertility (23%). Elevated leutinizing hormone and elevated LH: FSH was significant in irregular menstrual group. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in our study was 21.3%. Spearmans correlation between various clinical and laboratory parameters showed menstrual cycle and body mass index(BMI) had a fair positive correlation and was significant. WHR (waist hip ratio) showed 21 times risk for metabolic syndrome. Conclusions: The study showed that most of our polycystic ovary syndrome subjects were hirsute, with central obesity and overweight or obese. Oligomenorrhea was the most common presentation. Among the various risk factors studied, WHR (waist hip ratio) showed 21 times risk for metabolic syndrome. Obese women with PCOS had more severe ovulatory dysfunction and need more attention for their appropriate management
