Vortex matter in the charged Bose liquid at absolute zero
The Gross-Pitaevskii-type equation is solved for the charge Bose liquid in
the external magnetic field at zero temperature. There is a vortex lattice with
locally broken charge neutrality. The boson density is modulated in real space
and each vortex is charged. Remarkably, there is no upper critical field at
zero temperature, so the density of single flux-quantum vortices monotonously
increases with the magnetic field up to B=infinity and no indication of a phase
transition. The size of each vortex core decreases as about 1/sqrt(B) keeping
the system globally charge neutral. If bosons are composed of two fermions, a
phase transition to a spin-polarized Fermi liquid at some magnetic field larger
than the pair-breaking field is predicted.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, references update
Turning light into a liquid via atomic coherence
We study a four level atomic system with electromagnetically induced
transparency with giant and susceptibilities of
opposite signs. This system would allow to obtain multidimensional solitons and
light condensates with surface tension properties analogous to those of usual
liquids
Thermal suppression of surface barrier in ultrasmall superconducting structures
In the recent experiment by Cren \textit{et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett.
\textbf{102}, 127005 (2009)], no hysteresis for vortex penetration and
expulsion from the nano-island of Pb was observed. In the present paper, we
argue that this effect can be associated with the thermoactivated surmounting
of the surface barrier by a vortex. The typical entrance (exit) time is found
analytically from the Fokker-Planck equation, written in the form suitable for
the extreme vortex confinement. We show that this time is several orders of
magnitude smaller than 1 second under the conditions of the experiment
considered. Our results thus demonstrate a possibility for the thermal
suppression of the surface barrier in nanosized low- superconductors. We
also briefly discuss other recent experiments on vortices in related
structures.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure
General massive one-loop off-shell three-point functions
In this work we compute the most general massive one-loop off-shell
three-point vertex in D-dimensions, where the masses, external momenta, and
exponents of propagators are arbitrary. This follows our previous paper in
which we have calculated several new hypergeometric series representations for
massless and massive (with equal masses) scalar one-loop three-point functions,
in the negative dimensional approach.Comment: 16 pages, 2 figures, 4 table
Rotating dust solutions of Einstein's equations with 3-dimensional symmetry groups, Part 3: All Killing fields linearly independent of u^{\alpha} and w^{\alpha}
This is the third and last part of a series of 3 papers. Using the same
method and the same coordinates as in parts 1 and 2, rotating dust solutions of
Einstein's equations are investigated that possess 3-dimensional symmetry
groups, under the assumption that each of the Killing vectors is linearly
independent of velocity and rotation at every point
of the spacetime region under consideration. The Killing fields are found and
the Killing equations are solved for the components of the metric tensor in
every case that arises. No progress was made with the Einstein equations in any
of the cases, and no previously known solutions were identified. A brief
overview of literature on solutions with rotating sources is given.Comment: One missing piece, signaled after eq. (10.7), is added after (10.21).

Quantum and semiclassical study of magnetic anti-dots
We study the energy level structure of two-dimensional charged particles in
inhomogeneous magnetic fields. In particular, for magnetic anti-dots the
magnetic field is zero inside the dot and constant outside. Such a device can
be fabricated with present-day technology. We present detailed semiclassical
studies of such magnetic anti-dot systems and provide a comparison with exact
quantum calculations. In the semiclassical approach we apply the Berry-Tabor
formula for the density of states and the Borh-Sommerfeld quantization rules.
In both cases we found good agreement with the exact spectrum in the weak
magnetic field limit. The energy spectrum for a given missing flux quantum is
classified in six possible classes of orbits and summarized in a so-called
phase diagram. We also investigate the current flow patterns of different
quantum states and show the clear correspondence with classical trajectories.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figure
Magnetic metamaterials at telecommunication and visible frequencies
Arrays of gold split-rings with 50-nm minimum feature size and with an LC
resonance at 200-THz frequency (1500-nm wavelength) are fabricated. For normal
incidence conditions, they exhibit a pronounced fundamental magnetic mode,
arising from a coupling via the electric component of the incident light. For
oblique incidence, a coupling via the magnetic component is demonstrated as
well. Moreover, we identify a novel higher-order magnetic resonance at around
370 THz (800-nm wavelength) that evolves out of the Mie resonance for oblique
incidence. Comparison with theory delivers good agreement and also shows that
the structures allow for a negative magnetic permeability.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Electrical Detection and Magnetic-Field Control of Spin States in Phosphorus-Doped Silicon
Electron paramagnetic resonance of ensembles of phosphorus donors in silicon
has been detected electrically with externally applied magnetic fields lower
than 200 G. Because the spin Hamiltonian was dominated by the contact hyperfine
term rather than by the Zeeman terms at such low magnetic fields, superposition
states and
were formed
between phosphorus electron and nuclear spins, and electron paramagnetic
resonance transitions between these superposition states and or states are observed clearly. A
continuous change of and with the magnetic field was
observed with a behavior fully consistent with theory of phosphorus donors in
silicon.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
