An unpublished interview with Paulo Freire: radical pedagogy & social transformation

Pulling together the inedited works by Paulo Freire in the XXI century shows us how his works are up-to-date with current issues in the field. Most of his works have been disseminated all over the World, as those of the greatest educator of all times; however, his simplicity and outspoken voice is unique and cannot be reproduce in a simple manner. This is possibly why many writers use his citations, instead of paraphrasing his writings. Therefore, this paper represents another attempt to focus on his own voice and perspective on some of the questions raised by students three decades ago, that had never reach a broad audience but are nevertheless still in the minds of many students who are today interested in his work. The paper presents a short unpublished interview with Freire in 1988, when he talks about theoretical affiliation, critiques and the objectives of his works. In a conversation format the interview is a re-encounter between Paulo Freire and his former student Carmen de Mattos

Critical behaviour of the compactified λϕ4\lambda \phi^4 theory

We investigate the critical behaviour of the $N$-component Euclidean $\lambda \phi^4$ model at leading order in $\frac{1}{N}$-expansion. We consider it in three situations: confined between two parallel planes a distance $L$ apart from one another, confined to an infinitely long cylinder having a square cross-section of area $A$ and to a cubic box of volume $V$. Taking the mass term in the form $m_{0}^2=\alpha(T - T_{0})$, we retrieve Ginzburg-Landau models which are supposed to describe samples of a material undergoing a phase transition, respectively in the form of a film, a wire and of a grain, whose bulk transition temperature ($T_{0}$) is known. We obtain equations for the critical temperature as functions of $L$ (film), $A$ (wire), $V$ (grain) and of $T_{0}$, and determine the limiting sizes sustaining the transition.Comment: 12 pages, no figure

Ocorrência de cajazeiras anãs no Município de Teresina, Piauí.

O objetivo desse trabalho foi relatar a ocorrência de cajazeiras de porte baixo surgidas em um pomar situado no município de Teresina, Estado do Piauí. Os genótipos de cajazeira anã são componentes de um pomar comercial com aproximadamente 990 plantas de cajazeiras oriundas de propagação via sementes. O pomar foi implantado em janeiro de 2001, em espaçamento de 15 x 15 m. Foram identificados nove genótipos de cajazeira com porte anão. Para a caracterização preliminar desses genótipos, fez-se a avaliação da altura de planta, diâmetro de copa, diâmetro de caule, número de ramos primários e altura do primeiro ramo, aos 10 anos de idade. Os genótipos apresentaram altura de planta variando de 2,80 a 6,10 m; diâmetro de copa entre 4,75 e 10,65 m e diâmetro de caule entre 27,06 e 50,93 cm.
