Joint effect of lattice interaction and potential fluctuation in colossal magnetoresistive manganites
Taking into account both the Jahn-Teller lattice distortion and the on-site
electronic potential fluctuations in the orbital-degenerated double-exchange
model, in which both the core-spin and the lattice distortion are treated
classically, we investigate theoretically the metal-insulator transition (MIT)
in manganites by considering the electronic localization effect. An inverse
matrix method is developed for calculation in which we use the inverse of the
transfer matrix to obtain the localization length. We find that within
reasonable range of parameters, both the lattice effect and the potential
fluctuation are responsible to the occurrence of the MIT. The role of the
orbital configuration is also discussed.Comment: 4 figure
Universal scaling for the spin-electricity conversion on surface states of topological insulators
We have investigated spin-electricity conversion on surface states of
bulk-insulating topological insulator (TI) materials using a spin pumping
technique. The sample structure is Ni-Fe|Cu|TI trilayers, in which magnetic
proximity effects on the TI surfaces are negligibly small owing to the inserted
Cu layer. Voltage signals produced by the spin-electricity conversion are
clearly observed, and enhanced with decreasing temperature in line with the
dominated surface transport at lower temperatures. The efficiency of the
spin-electricity conversion is greater for TI samples with higher resistivity
of bulk states and longer mean free path of surface states, consistent with the
surface spin-electricity conversion

Simulation of premixed combustion with varying equivalence ratio in gas turbine combustor
RANS simulation of a gas turbine combustor with complex geometry is performed. The turbulence is modelled using a two-equation approach. The scalar mixing and combustion is modelled using a flamelet based approach for partially premixed combustion. In this approach transport equations to described scalar mixing and reacting fields and their statistical interactions are solved along with standard conservation equations. The boundary conditions are specified using measured values. The computed spatial variations of averaged temperature and dry mole fractions of various scalars, including CO and NOx, compared quite well with measured values. The results of this combustion model are compared to the eddy-dissipation-concept (EDC) model commonly used for gas turbine combustion calculation and this comparison showed that the results of partially premixed combustion model is improved considerably. This is the author accepted manuscript.
