A class of asymptotically self-similar stable processes with stationary increments

    Get PDF
We generalize the BM-local time fractional symmetric a-stable motion introduced by Cohen and Samorodnitsky by replacing the local time with a general continuous additive functional (CAF). We show that the resulting process is symmetric a -stable and has stationary increments. Depending on the CAF considered, the process is either self-similar or asymptotically self-similar, lying in the domain of attraction of the BM-local time fractional symmetric a -stable motion. We also show that the process arises as a weak limit of a discrete "random rewards scheme" similar to the one described by Cohen and Samorodnitsk

TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS TOWARDS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GROUP WORKIN TEACHING ENGLISH TO YOUNG LEARNERS

Group work becomes one of the effective and efficient teaching methods in education. Many teachers believe that group work gives many benefits to students. Young learners have different learning characteristics with adult learners. They need particular teaching treatments that are different from adult learners. That matter raises the question of whether group work can be applied to young learners. This research aimed at investigating the teachers’ perception towards the implementation of group work in teaching English to young learners. The participants of this study were four native English teachers who had experiences in teaching English to young learners. A questionnaire and interview were used to collect data and the results were analysed qualitatively through a descriptive approach. The research found that the participants had positive perceptions towards the implementation of group work in teaching English to young learners

TLC-Bioautography Guided Screening for Compounds Inhibitory to Klebsiella Pneumoniae from Justicia Wynaadensis (Nees) T. Anders

The increasing occurrence of opportunistic infections as well as infections caused by multi-drug resistant organisms has led to new efforts in the search for novel antimicrobial compounds. Justicia wynaadensis is a scandent herb found growing in the forest and estate regions of Kodagu District. The present investigation deals with the TLC-Bioautography of the methanolic extract of J. wynaadensis, followed by GC-MS analysis of active fractions. TLC-Bioautography resulted in four clearly visible active spots showing large inhibition zones. The antibacterial activity of the methanolic extract of J. wynaadensis against Klebsiella pneumoniae MTCC 3384 could be attributed to volatile components such as phytol and to the fatty acids such as myristic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid and stearic aci

chromatographic separation of some antiemetics on silica gel-surfactant impregnated thin-layer plates

A thin layer chromatographic (TLC) separation of five antiemetic agents on silica gel-surfactant impregnated plates using a mixture of ethanol-water-acetic acid (40:50:10) as developing system was studied. The visualization of the spots was done by exposure of the plates to iodine vapour. Of the two surfactants employed (polysorbate-80 and sodium lauryl sulfate) at various concentrations, sodium lauryl sulfate at 1.25% w/v concentration level exhibited the best separation ability.Keyword: Chromatography, antiemetics, Silica gel-surfactant, Thin-layer plate

Effect of Slip velocity on Blood Flow in Catheterized Tapered Artery

    Get PDF
Effect of slip velocity on blood flow through an arterial stenosis which is developed along a tapering wall is studied here. A uniform catheter is inserted in a stenosed tube. Blood is assumed to behave like Newtonian fluid. No slip as well as slip condition is taken in the present paper, at the arterial wall a velocity slip condition is employed and a no slip at the catheter boundary. Analytic expressions are obtained for different flow parameters and their behavior discussed through graphs. For the numerical solution of the problem, which is described by Navier-Stokes equations with appropriate boundary conditions, the Perturbation method is adopted. It is found that due to the introduction of an axial slip velocity and flow rate increases but wall shear stress decreases. The effect of tapering is also seen in the present model

Evaluation of Afzelia africana seeds as protein feedstuff in fish diets

Seeds of the legume Afzelia africana were analyzed and evaluated for use as protein feedstuff in fish diets. The seeds were heated to inactivate the anti-nutritional factors. Two iso-nitrogenous diets (26%) were produced using A. africana or Bonga-fishmeal as protein sources and labeled FI and F2, respectively. The resulting pellets were sinking pellets and were well accepted by tilapia based on the reaction time to feed presence and proportion of pellets eaten within one hour. Fl pellets were more stable in water than F2 pellets with mean dissolution times of 190 mins and 135 mins, respectivel
