General Non-extremal Rotating Charged Godel Black Holes in Minimal Five-Dimensional Gauged Supergravity
We present the general exact solutions for non-extremal rotating charged
black holes in the Godel universe of five-dimensional minimal supergravity
theory. They are uniquely characterized by four non-trivial parameters, namely
the mass , the charge , the Kerr equal rotation parameter , and the
Godel parameter . We calculate the conserved energy, angular momenta and
charge for the solutions and show that they completely satisfy the first law of
black hole thermodynamics. We also study the symmetry and separability of the
Hamilton-Jacobi and the massive Klein-Gordon equations in these
Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Godel black hole backgrounds.Comment: 4 pages, revtex4.cls. 4th revised versio
Second language user support
Computer users rarely experience entirely trouble-free interaction. The natural variety ofindividuals ensures that no software systems yield constantly fluent interaction for allusers. In consequence, software designers often strive to ameliorate this situation bybuilding 'user support' into their systems. User support can take different forms but, conventionally, each aims to assist the needy end-user by means of facilities directly supporting the performance of certain operations, or through supply of information thatadvises the user on available system functionality. The present paper briefly characterises a range of user support facilities before describingone requirement in greater detail. This aspect considers the needs of users whose mother-tongue is not English, but who are obliged to use English-based information systems. Inthis context, 'helping the user' must reasonably extend beyond mere advice on systemoperation to selective elucidation of information content. We regard this move as alogical extension of the user support concept, by seeking to address specific interactionneeds in a target user population. An example of this approach is described through aninformation system, in the domain of civil engineering, for native Chinese speakers ofEnglish
Equi-energy sampler with applications in statistical inference and statistical mechanics
We introduce a new sampling algorithm, the equi-energy sampler, for efficient
statistical sampling and estimation. Complementary to the widely used
temperature-domain methods, the equi-energy sampler, utilizing the
temperature--energy duality, targets the energy directly. The focus on the
energy function not only facilitates efficient sampling, but also provides a
powerful means for statistical estimation, for example, the calculation of the
density of states and microcanonical averages in statistical mechanics. The
equi-energy sampler is applied to a variety of problems, including exponential
regression in statistics, motif sampling in computational biology and protein
folding in biophysics.Comment: This paper discussed in: [math.ST/0611217], [math.ST/0611219],

A convenient implementation of the overlap between arbitrary Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov vacua for projection
Overlap between Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov(HFB) vacua is very important in the
beyond mean-field calculations. However, in the HFB transformation, the
matrices are sometimes singular due to the exact emptiness () or full
occupation () of some single-particle orbits. This singularity may cause
some problem in evaluating the overlap between HFB vacua through Pfaffian. We
found that this problem can be well avoided by setting those zero occupation
numbers to some tiny values (e.g., ). This treatment does not
change the HFB vacuum state because are numerically zero
relative to 1. Therefore, for arbitrary HFB transformation, we say that the
matrices can always be nonsingular. From this standpoint, we present a
new convenient Pfaffian formula for the overlap between arbitrary HFB vacua,
which is especially suitable for symmetry restoration. Testing calculations
have been performed for this new formula. It turns out that our method is
reliable and accurate in evaluating the overlap between arbitrary HFB vacua.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. Published versio
