    Parental Deportation Effects On Citizen Children

    In this paper I will be discussing how Hispanic children are affected by their parents documented status, deportation, and how it can affect them physically and mentally. Studies have shown that children who live in a household where at least one of their parents is undocumented don’t do well in school and are even less likely to graduate from high school (Luis H. Zayas, Lauren E. Gulbas). These children don’t feel secure because of raids that occur and laws that are passed that make it really hard for undocumented people to have a stable life which also affects them economically putting them in poverty (Sandy P. Rubio-Hernandez, Cecilia Ayon). This paper highlights the impact anti-immigration policies have on Latina/o’s children. Drawing on peer review journal articles and scholarly sources, this paper points to the trauma experienced by Latina/o children whose parents or legal guardians have been deported and what schools and communities where deportations have taken place can do to diminish the negative impact of these anti-immigration actions

    Non-Patient Laboratory Outreach Testing Feasibility Study For A Community Hospital Laboratory

    An assessment of the feasibility was conducted for developing, and implementing a new service that would accept non-patient specimens for testing in a community hospital laboratory. The service would improve the delivery of healthcare services for patient, physician, and community through the recommendations. Costs persistently rise and shortages amongst physicians and other patient care personnel are climbing. Supporting our community and system physicians by offering high quality laboratory testing in a timely manner with consultative services offered by pathology reinforces a community hospital’s commitment to improving the physician experience. Diagnostic laboratory testing is a critical piece in treating patients, and the option to send specimen testing to the hospital laboratory has been a requested service from physicians whose offices are located in close proximity. Studying the feasibility of adding an additional service line for specimen only outreach testing including an electronic order entry option, overcoming the managed care contract barrier and staffing considerations would be beneficial to patients, caregivers and the community hospital. The potential exists to reduce costs, improve quality and strengthen physician engagement by implementing one of the recommendations. Providing quality laboratory results to the clinics within the system and community physicians surrounding is an opportunity for clinical laboratories to positively impact the utilization management of diagnostic testing in collaboration with managed care organizations to deliver healthcare more efficiently. Recommendations for the community hospital include offering the service to system owned physician clinics with the phased implementation of the electronic medical record.     Temperature dependent orbital degree of freedom in a bilayer manganite by magnetic Compton scattering

    We have measured temperature-dependent magnetic Compton profiles (MCPs) from a single crystal of La1.2_{1.2}Sr1.8_{1.8}Mn2_2O7_7. The MCPs, which involved the scattering of circularly polarized x-rays, are in general related to the momentum density of all the unpaired spins in the system. Nevertheless, we show that when the x-ray scattering vector lies along the [110] direction, the number of magnetic electrons of a specific symmetry, i.e. dd-electrons of x2−y2x^2-y^2 symmetry, yield a distinct signature in the MCP, allowing us to monitor substantial changes in the occupancy of the dx2−y2d_{x^2-y^2} states over the investigated temperature range of 5-200K. This study indicates that magnetic Compton scattering can provide a powerful window on the properties of specific magnetic electrons in complex materials.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to appear in Phys.     Spin moment over 10-300 K and delocalization of magnetic electrons above the Verwey transition in magnetite

    In order to probe the magnetic ground state, we have carried out temperature dependent magnetic Compton scattering experiments on an oriented single crystal of magnetite (Fe3_3O4_4), together with the corresponding first-principles band theory computations to gain insight into the measurements. An accurate value of the magnetic moment μS\mu_S associated with unpaired spins is obtained directly over the temperature range of 10-300K. μS\mu_S is found to be non-integral and to display an anomalous behavior with the direction of the external magnetic field near the Verwey transition. These results reveal how the magnetic properties enter the Verwey energy scale via spin-orbit coupling and the geometrical frustration of the spinel structure, even though the Curie temperature of magnetite is in excess of 800 K. The anisotropy of the magnetic Compton profiles increases through the Verwey temperature TvT_v and indicates that magnetic electrons in the ground state of magnetite become delocalized on Fe B-sites above TvT_v.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, to appear in Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solid

    Three-dimensional light-matter interface for collective spin squeezing in atomic ensembles

    We study the three-dimensional nature of the quantum interface between an ensemble of cold, trapped atomic spins and a paraxial laser beam, coupled through a dispersive interaction. To achieve strong entanglement between the collective atomic spin and the photons, one must match the spatial mode of the collective radiation of the ensemble with the mode of the laser beam while minimizing the effects of decoherence due to optical pumping. For ensembles coupling to a probe field that varies over the extent of the cloud, the set of atoms that indistinguishably radiates into a desired mode of the field defines an inhomogeneous spin wave. Strong coupling of a spin wave to the probe mode is not characterized by a single parameter, the optical density, but by a collection of different effective atom numbers that characterize the coherence and decoherence of the system. To model the dynamics of the system, we develop a full stochastic master equation, including coherent collective scattering into paraxial modes, decoherence by local inhomogeneous diffuse scattering, and backaction due to continuous measurement of the light entangled with the spin waves. This formalism is used to study the squeezing of a spin wave via continuous quantum nondemolition (QND) measurement. We find that the greatest squeezing occurs in parameter regimes where spatial inhomogeneities are significant, far from the limit in which the interface is well approximated by a one-dimensional, homogeneous model.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figure
