    This study was designed to evaluate antioxidant and antihemolytic activities of Hyssopus angustifolius flower, stem and leaf methanol extracts by employing various in vitro assays. The leaf extract showed the best activity in DPPH (63.2 ± 2.3 μg mL-1) and H2O2  (55.6 ± 2.6 μg mL-1) models compared to the other extracts. However, flower extract exhibited the highest Fe2+ chelating activity (131.4 ± 4.4 μg mL-1). The extracts exhibited good antioxidant activity in linoleic acid peroxidation and reducing power assays, but were not comparable to vitamin C. The stem (23.58 ± 0.7 μg mL-1) and leaf (26.21 ± 1 μg mL-1) extracts showed highest level of antihemolytic activity than the flower extract

    Let TB(H)T\in\mathbb{B}(\mathscr{H}) and T=UTT=U|T| be its polar decomposition. We proved that (i) if TT is log-hyponormal or pp-hyponormal and Un=UU^n=U^\ast for some nn, then TT is normal; (ii) if the spectrum of UU is contained in some open semicircle, then TT is normal if and only if so is its Aluthge transform T~=T12UT12\widetilde{T}=|T|^{1\over2}U|T|^{1\over2}

    Lessons learned from SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV : FDA-approved Abelson tyrosine-protein kinase 2 inhibitors may help us combat SARS-CoV-2

    SARS-CoV-2 is a newly emerging infectious disease, which originated from Wuhan in the Hubei province of China in late December 2019 [1]. Since then, it has rapidly spread all over the world, and at the time of writing this letter, WHO statistics show more than 1,696,588 cases and 105,952 deaths confirmed across the world [2]. Although there is no specific therapy for SARS-CoV-2 infection [3], combination therapy with antiviral and anti-inflammatory drugs accompanied by supportive treatment have been used for SARS-CoV-2 patients [4]. The combination of well-known HIV protease inhibitors, such as ritonavir with lopinavir, has also been a common approach to treat SARS-CoV-2. Insufficient outcome in severe cases is, however, one of the main challenges associated with the current antiviral-based therapy for SARS-CoV-2 [5]. In view of the long period required for novel drug discovery and the desperate need for a prompt response to this pandemic infection, one must resort to repurposing FDA-approved drugs. In this direction, our experience with other close members of coronaviruses such as SARS and MERS has taught us that repurposing the current drugs is a reasonable strategy. Abelson tyrosine-protein kinase 2 (Abl2), the imatinib target, was required for efficient SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV replication in vitro [6]. Coleman et al. have shown that the imatinib target Abl2 is indispensable for efficient replication of SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV in vitro

    First report of asthma prevalence in Afghanistan using international standardized methods Premier rapport sur lasthme en Afghanistan utilisant des méthodes internationales normalisées

    No data on the prevalence of asthma in Afghanistan have been published before. In a school-based survey in 20102011 the wheezing section of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) questionnaire was completed by a random sample of 1500 children aged 67 years and 1500 adolescents aged 1314 years old. The prevalence of physician-diagnosed asthma was 12.5 in 67-year-olds and 17.3 in 1314-year-olds (P = 0.002). The prevalence of wheeze in the last 12 months was similar in children and adolescents (19.2 and 21.7 respectively). The prevalence of ever wheezing, night attacks, speech-limiting wheeze and exercise-induced wheeze was 23.1, 4.8, 12.2 and 9.6 respectively in children and 30.5, 4.4, 13.0 and 13.6 respectively in adolescents. These rates are higher than those in neighbouring countries. This first epidemiological survey of asthma in Afghanistan shows that asthma and wheezing are common in Kabul students. © 2015, World Health Organization. All Rights Reserved

    Molecular identification and phylogeny of Nerita᾽s species on rocky shores of the Northern Persian Gulf

    Neritas are among the most dominant groups of Gastropoda in the Persian Gulf. There is no previous study in relation to molecular and phylogeny of Neritas in the study area. The molecular identification of Nerita species have been studied for the first time in the northern rocky coastal zones of Persian Gulf during 2013 and 2014. After morphological identifications of species, DNA extraction, amplifying partial of cytochrome oxidase COI and 16S rRNA and sequencing procedure were done in the laboratory. In this study, 6 COI and 6 16S rRNA sequences, belonging to 3 species, were obtained. Also, phylogeny analyses with drawing phylogeny trees of Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian were done using MEGA6 and BEAST softwares. Morphological and molecular identification results were similar for 2 species and dissimilar for one species. This discrepancy shows that a combination of morphological and molecular studies is more reliable for species identification than either of them solely. The results also showed that Nerita species are monophyletic
