    Post void residue in women with pelvic organ prolapse: a prospective observational study

    Background: The objective of the present study was to observe the post void residual volume (PVRV) in women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) pre and postoperatively and to correlate stage of prolapse with lower urinary tract symptoms and quality of life in women with pelvic organ prolapse.Methods: This is a prospective observational cohort study of 100 women with symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse of stage II or greater. Patients were admitted for Vaginal hysterectomy with pelvic floor repair for pelvic organ prolapse in Gynaecology Department at Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, India over one year were recruited. This study was approved by the institutional review board and ethical committee of the hospital. Pre- and post-operative PVR were measured. The statistical analysis was done by using SPSS version 21 and P value < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant.Results: In this study 100 patients were recruited and 11% of women had pre-operative high post void residual volume of more than 100 ml. Stages of POP did not correlate with severity of LUTS and QOL. Pre-operative elevated PVR resolved post operatively in 91%, the P value <0.000 which was highly significant.Conclusions: 11% of women had preoperative high PVR. Stages of POP did not correlate with severity of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and quality of life(QOL). Pre-operative elevated PVR resolved post operatively in 91%, the P value < 0.000 which was highly significant. Majority of the patient with severe pelvic organ prolapse had elevated pre-op PVR which resolved post- operatively after surgical correction

    Cost of Quality in Software Products: An Empirical Analysis

    Computer software has emerged as a major worldwide industry, estimated at 450Bfor1995ofwhich450B for 1995 of which 225B is attributable to US firms [Boehm, 1987]. Yet, in many organizations, costs and schedules for software projects are largely unpredictable, and product quality is often poor [DeMarco and Lister, 1993]. This underscores the need to study both the quality of the software product and the life-cycle cost incurred in the development and maintenance of the products. Increasing expenditure in software has caught the attention of researchers. Identifying software productivity factors and estimating software costs continue to be important research topics [Mukhopadhyay and Kekre, 1992; Banker et al., 1993]. Researchers have adopted both empirical and theoretical approaches to better understand the process of software development and maintenance. Though software cost continues to be an important research question, competition in the software industry and the increased role of software in everyday life have also made development cycle time and quality important research issues. The quality of software has been studied mainly from defect analysis and software maintenance perspectives. Empirical research has analyzed tradeoffs between software quality and maintenance, and examined drivers of software maintenance costs [Banker, et al., 1993]. Practitioners in the software industry are still faced with the challenge of understanding the key tradeoffs in a software project in order to deliver quality products to customers on time and without cost overruns. This underscores the need to study the various factors that influence the life-cycle cost and quality in software products. Moreover, the effect of the process used in a software project on the outcome of the project in terms of cost to the software developer and quality of the product has not been examined rigorously. Thus in this research, we propose to model the life-cycle cost and quality of software products based on the factorsrelated to product, people, process and technology deployed in the software project

    Virtual Radiologic (vRad), the largest teleradiology company in the United States, faces the difficult problem of matching more than 400 radiologists with time-varying and seasonal demand. In addition to the constraints that traditional medical facilities face, vRad is subject to supply and demand requirements that are unique to the teleradiology business environment. In this paper, we present a forecasting and capacity-planning model that more accurately assesses demand and plans system capacity to provide better service to vRad’s customers. We discuss the underlying reasons for improvement and quantify the impact on vRad’s entire system. We explain managerial insights that will help both vRad and other companies in the service sector with similar service-response requirements and demand patterns.     An unusual presentation of rectal atresia with rectal duplication cyst in a neonate: A case report

    A 10 days old male baby brought with abdominal distension and cystic swelling in the left buttock. Radiological investigationssuggested para-rectal abscess or rectal duplication cyst.     Panoramic Human Structure Maintenance based on Invariant Features of Video Frames

    [[abstract]]Panoramic photography is becoming a very popular and commonly available feature in the mobile handheld devices nowadays. In traditional panoramic photography, the human structure often becomes messy if the human changes position in the scene or during the combination step of the human structure and natural background. In this paper, we present an effective method in panorama creation to maintain the main structure of human in the panorama. In the proposed method, we use an automatic method of feature matching, and the energy map of seam carving is used to avoid the overlapping of human with the natural background. The contributions of this proposal include automated panoramic creation method and it solves the human ghost generation problem in panorama by maintaining the structure of human by energy map. Experimental results prove that the proposed system can be effectively used to compose panoramic photographs and maintain human structure in panorama.[[incitationindex]]SCI[[booktype]]電歐
