    Switching speed distribution of spin-torque-induced magnetic reversal

    The switching probability of a single-domain ferromagnet under spin-current excitation is evaluated using the Fokker-Planck equation(FPE). In the case of uniaxial anisotropy, the FPE reduces to an ordinary differential equation in which the lowest eigenvalue λ1\lambda_1 determines the slowest switching events. We have calculated λ1\lambda_1 by using both analytical and numerical methods. It is found that the previous model based on thermally distributed initial magnetization states \cite{Sun1} can be accurately justified in some useful limiting conditions.Comment: The 10th Joint MMM/Intermag, HA-0

    Multi-view Regularized Gaussian Processes

    Gaussian processes (GPs) have been proven to be powerful tools in various areas of machine learning. However, there are very few applications of GPs in the scenario of multi-view learning. In this paper, we present a new GP model for multi-view learning. Unlike existing methods, it combines multiple views by regularizing marginal likelihood with the consistency among the posterior distributions of latent functions from different views. Moreover, we give a general point selection scheme for multi-view learning and improve the proposed model by this criterion. Experimental results on multiple real world data sets have verified the effectiveness of the proposed model and witnessed the performance improvement through employing this novel point selection scheme

    Observing collapse in two colliding dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates

    We study the collision of two Bose-Einstein condensates with pure dipolar interaction. A stationary pure dipolar condensate is known to be stable when the atom number is below a critical value. However, collapse can occur during the collision between two condensates due to local density fluctuations even if the total atom number is only a fraction of the critical value. Using full three-dimensional numerical simulations, we observe the collapse induced by local density fluctuations. For the purpose of future experiments, we present the time dependence of the density distribution, energy per particle and the maximal density of the condensate. We also discuss the collapse time as a function of the relative phase between the two condensates.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure

    Tidal wave in 102Pd: Rotating condensate of up to seven d-bosons

    The yrast states of even even vibrational and transitional nuclei are inter- preted as a rotating condensate of interacting d-bosons and the corresponding semi-classical tidal wave concept. A simple experimental manifestation of the anharmonicity caused by the boson interaction is found.     Tidal Waves -- a non-adiabatic microscopic description of the yrast states in near-spherical nuclei

    The yrast states of nuclei that are spherical or weakly deformed in their ground states are described as quadrupole waves running over the nuclear surface, which we call "tidal waves". The energies and E2 transition probabilities of the yrast states in nuclides with ZZ= 44, 46, 48 and N=56, 58,...,66N=56, ~58,..., 66 are calculated by means of the cranking model in a microscopic way. The nonlinear response of the nucleonic orbitals results in a strong coupling between shape and single particle degrees of freedom
