    Dual-camera system for high-speed imaging in particle image velocimetry

    Particle image velocimetry is an important technique in experimental fluid mechanics, for which it has been essential to use a specialized high-speed camera. However, the high speed is at the expense of other performances of the camera, i.e., sensitivity and image resolution.     Diffusion and spectral dimension on Eden tree

    We calculate the eigenspectrum of random walks on the Eden tree in two and three dimensions. From this, we calculate the spectral dimension dsd_s and the walk dimension dwd_w and test the scaling relation ds=2df/dwd_s = 2d_f/d_w (=2d/dw=2d/d_w for an Eden tree). Finite-size induced crossovers are observed, whereby the system crosses over from a short-time regime where this relation is violated (particularly in two dimensions) to a long-time regime where the behavior appears to be complicated and dependent on dimension even qualitatively.Comment: 11 pages, Plain TeX with J-Phys.sty style, HLRZ 93/9

    Further evidence for linearly-dispersive Cooper pairs

    A recent Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) model of several cuprate superconductors is based on bosonic Cooper pairs (CPs) moving in 3D with a quadratic energy-momentum (dispersion) relation. The 3D BEC condensate-fraction vs. temperature (T/Tc, where Tc is the BEC transition temperature) formula poorly fits penetration-depth data for two cuprates in the range (1/2, 1]. We show how these fits are dramatically improved assuming cuprates to be quasi-2D, and how equally good fits obtain for conventional 3D and quasi-1D nanotube superconducting data, provided the correct CP dispersion is assumed in BEC at their assumed corresponding dimensionalities. This is offered as additional concrete empirical evidence for linearly-dispersive pairs in another recent BEC scenario of superconductors within which a BCS condensate turns out to be a very special case.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur

    Evidence for Carrier-Induced High-Tc Ferromagnetism in Mn-doped GaN film

    A GaN film doped with 8.2 % Mn was grown by the molecular-beam-epitaxy technique. Magnetization measurements show that this highly Mn-doped GaN film exhibits ferromagnetism above room temperature. It is also revealed that the high-temperature ferromagnetic state is significantly suppressed below 10 K, accompanied by an increase of the electrical resistivity with decreasing temperature. This observation clearly demonstrates a close relation between the ferromagnetism with extremely high-Tc and the carrier transport in the Mn-doped GaN film.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure

    Systematic study of the decay rates of antiprotonic helium states

    A systematic study of the decay rates of antiprotonic helium (\pbhef and \pbhet) at CERN AD (Antiproton Decelerator) has been made by a laser spectroscopic method. The decay rates of some of its short-lived states, namely those for which the Auger rates γA\gamma_{\mathrm{A}} are much larger than their radiative decay rates (γrad1\gamma_{\mathrm{rad}} \sim 1 μ\mus1^{-1}), were determined from the time distributions of the antiproton annihilation signals induced by laser beams, and the widths of the atomic resonance lines.
