Boundary stress tensor and asymptotically AdS3 non-Einstein spaces at the chiral point
Chiral gravity admits asymptotically AdS3 solutions that are not locally
equivalent to AdS3; meaning that solutions do exist which, while obeying the
strong boundary conditions usually imposed in General Relativity, happen not to
be Einstein spaces. In Topologically Massive Gravity (TMG), the existence of
non-Einstein solutions is particularly connected to the question about the role
played by complex saddle points in the Euclidean path integral. Consequently,
studying (the existence of) non-locally AdS3 solutions to chiral gravity is
relevant to understand the quantum theory. Here, we discuss a special family of
non-locally AdS3 solutions to chiral gravity. In particular, we show that such
solutions persist when one deforms the theory by adding the higher-curvature
terms of the so-called New Massive Gravity (NMG). Moreover, the addition of
higher-curvature terms to the gravity action introduces new non-locally AdS3
solutions that have no analogues in TMG. Both stationary and time-dependent,
axially symmetric solutions that asymptote AdS3 space without being locally
equivalent to it appear. Defining the boundary stress-tensor for the full
theory, we show that these non-Einstein geometries have associated vanishing

Associations between fibrin D-dimer, markers of inflammation, incident self-reported mobility limitation, and all-cause mortality in older men

Men aged 60 to 79 without prevalent heart failure followed up for an average of 11.5 years (N = 3,925).<p></p>
Measurements<p></p>
All-cause mortality (n = 1,286) and self-reported mobility disability obtained at examination in 1998 to 2000 and in a postal questionnaire 3 to 5 years later in 2003.<p></p>
Results<p></p>
High D-dimer (top vs lowest tertile: adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.46, 95% confidence interval = 1.02–2.05) and IL-6 (aOR = 1.43, 95% CI = 1.01–2.02) levels (but not CRP or fibrinogen) were associated with greater incident mobility limitation after adjustment for confounders and prevalent disease status. IL-6, CRP, fibrinogen, and D-dimer were significantly associated with total mortality after adjustment for confounders. Only D-dimer and IL-6 predicted total mortality independent of each other and the other biomarkers. The adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) was 1.16 (95% CI = 1.10–1.22) for a standard deviation increase in log D-dimer and 1.10 (95% CI = 1.04–1.18) for a standard deviation increase in log IL-6. D-dimer was independently related to vascular and nonvascular mortality, and IL-6 was independently related to vascular mortality. Risks of mobility limitation and mortality were greatest in those with a combination of high D-dimer and IL-6 levels.<p></p>
Conclusion<p></p>
D-dimer and IL-6 are associated with risk of mobility limitation and mortality in older men without heart failure. The findings suggest that coagulation leads to functional decline and mortality s that inflammation does not explain
Numerical Simulation of Magnetic Interactions in Polycrystalline YFeO3
The magnetic behavior of polycrystalline yttrium orthoferrite was studied
from the experimental and theoretical points of view. Magnetization
measurements up to 170 kOe were carried out on a single-phase YFeO3 sample
synthesized from heterobimetallic alkoxides. The complex interplay between
weak-ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions, observed in the
experimental M(H) curves, was successfully simulated by locally minimizing the
magnetic energy of two interacting Fe sublattices. The resulting values of
exchange field (H_E = 5590 kOe), anisotropy field (H_A = 0.5 kOe) and
Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya antisymmetric field (H_D = 149 kOe) are in good agreement

Magnetic hyperthermia in single-domain monodisperse FeCo nanoparticles: Evidences for Stoner-Wohlfarth behaviour and large losses
We report on hyperthermia measurements on a colloidal solution of 15 nm
monodisperse FeCo nanoparticles (NPs). Losses as a function of the magnetic
field display a sharp increase followed by a plateau, which is what is expected
for losses of ferromagnetic single-domain NPs. The frequency dependence of the
coercive field is deduced from hyperthermia measurement and is in quantitative
agreement with a simple model of non-interacting NPs. The measured losses (1.5
mJ/g) compare to the highest of the literature, though the saturation
magnetization of the NPs is well below the bulk one.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
Spin Disorder and Magnetic Anisotropy in Fe3O4 Nanoparticles
We have studied the magnetic behavior of dextran-coated magnetite
(FeO) nanoparticles with median particle size \left=8 .
Magnetization curves and in-field M\"ossbauer spectroscopy measurements showed
that the magnetic moment of the particles was much smaller than the bulk
material. However, we found no evidence of magnetic irreversibility or
non-saturating behavior at high fields, usually associated to spin canting. The
values of magnetic anisotropy from different techniques indicate that
surface or shape contributions are negligible. It is proposed that these
particles have bulk-like ferrimagnetic structure with ordered A and B
sublattices, but nearly compensated magnetic moments. The dependence of the
blocking temperature with frequency and applied fields, ,
suggests that the observed non-monotonic behavior is governed by the strength

Trajectories of objectively measured physical activity in free-living older men.
BACKGROUND: The steep decline in physical activity (PA) among the oldest old is not well understood; there is little information about the patterns of change in PA and sedentary behaviour (SB) in older people. Longitudinal data on objectively measured PA data can give insights about how PA and SB change with age.
METHODS: Men age 70-90 yr, from a United Kingdom population-based cohort wore a GT3X accelerometer over the hip annually on up to three occasions (56%, 50%, and 51% response rates) spanning 2 yr. Multilevel models were used to estimate change in activity. Men were grouped according to achieving ≥150 min·wk of MVPA in bouts of ≥10 min (current guidelines) at two or three time points.
RESULTS: A total of 1419 ambulatory men had ≥600 min wear time on ≥3 d at ≥2 time points. At baseline, men took 4806 steps per day and spent 72.5% of their day in SB, 23.1% in light PA, and 4.1% in moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA). Mean change per year was -341 steps, +1.1% SB, -0.7% light PA, and -0.4% MVPA each day (all P 30 min increased from 5.1 by 0.1 per year (P = 0.02).
CONCLUSIONS: Among older adults, the steep decline in total PA occurred because of reductions in MVPA, while light PA is relatively spared and sedentary time and long sedentary bouts increase
Superconductivity and Magnetism in REFeAsO1-xFx (RE=Rare Earth Elements)
Fluoride-doped iron-based oxypnictides containing rare-earth gadolinium
(GdFeAsO0.8F0.2) and co-doping with yttrium (Gd0.8Y0.2FeAsO0.8F0.2) have been
prepared via conventional solid state reaction at ambient pressure. The
non-yttrium substituted oxypnictide show superconducting transition as high as
43.9 K from temperature dependent resistance measurements with the Meissner
effect observed at a lower temperature of 40.8 K from temperature dependent
magnetization measurements. By replacing a small amount of gadolinium with
yttrium Tc was observed to be lowered by 10 K which might be caused by a change
in the electronic or magnetic structures since the crystal structure was not
