    Corrections to Sirlin's Theorem in O(p6)O(p^6) Chiral Perturbation Theory

    Get PDF
    We present the results of the first two-loop calculation of a form factor in full SU(3)×SU(3)SU(3) \times SU(3) Chiral Perturbation Theory. We choose a specific linear combination of π+,K+,K0\pi^+, K^+, K^0 and KπK\pi form factors (the one appearing in Sirlin's theorem) which does not get contributions from order p6p^6 operators with unknown constants. For the charge radii, the correction to the previous one-loop result turns out to be significant, but still there is no agreement with the present data due to large experimental uncertainties in the kaon charge radii.Comment: 6 pages, Latex, 2 LaTeX figure

    Hard Constituent Quarks and Electroweak Properties of Pseudoscalar Mesons

    Get PDF
    The high momentum components generated in the wave function of pseudoscalar mes* by the one-gluon-exchange interaction are investigated within a relativistic constituent quark model. Adopting the light-cone formalism, the sensitivity of the weak decay constant and the charge form factor to hard constituent quarks is illustrated.Comment: 11 pages and 5 figs. Forecasting with dimension switching VARs

    Get PDF
    This paper develops methods for VAR forecasting when the researcher is uncertain about which variables enter the VAR, and the dimension of the VAR may be changing over time. It considers the case where there are N variables which might potentially enter a VAR and the researcher is interested in forecasting N ∗ of them. Thus, the researcher is faced with 2 N − N ∗ potential VARs. If N is large, conventional Bayesian methods can be infeasible due to the computational burden of dealing with a huge model space. Allowing for the dimension of the VAR to change over time only increases this burden. In light of these considerations, this paper uses computationally practical approximations adapted from the dynamic model averaging literature in order to develop methods for dynamic dimension selection (DDS) in VARs. We then show the benefits of DDS in a macroeconomic forecasting application. In particular, DDS switches between different parsimonious VARs and forecasts appreciably better than various small and large dimensional VARs

    About one long-range contribution to K+ -> pi+ l+ l- decays

    Full text link
    We investigate the mechanism of K+ -> pi+ l+ l- (l= e, mu) decays in which a virtual photon is emitted either from the incoming K+ or the outgoing pi+. We point out some inconsistencies with and between two previous calculations, discuss the possible experimental inputs, and estimate the branching fractions. This mechanism alone fails to explain the existing experimental data by more than one order-of-magnitude. But it may show itself by its interference with the leading long-range mechanism dominated by the a_1^+ and rho^0 mesons.Comment: 12 pages, RevTeX, epsf.sty, 2 embedded figure

    Grid Databases for Shared Image Analysis in the MammoGrid Project

    Full text link
    The MammoGrid project aims to prove that Grid infrastructures can be used for collaborative clinical analysis of database-resident but geographically distributed medical images. This requires: a) the provision of a clinician-facing front-end workstation and b) the ability to service real-world clinician queries across a distributed and federated database. The MammoGrid project will prove the viability of the Grid by harnessing its power to enable radiologists from geographically dispersed hospitals to share standardized mammograms, to compare diagnoses (with and without computer aided detection of tumours) and to perform sophisticated epidemiological studies across national boundaries. This paper outlines the approach taken in MammoGrid to seamlessly connect radiologist workstations across a Grid using an "information infrastructure" and a DICOM-compliant object model residing in multiple distributed data stores in Italy and the UKComment: 10 pages, 5 figure
