Approximate Coulomb distortion effects in (e,e'p) reactions
In this paper we apply a well-tested approximation of electron Coulomb
distortion effects to the exclusive reaction (e,e'p) in the quasielastic
region. We compare the approximate treatment of Coulomb distortion effects to
the exact distorted wave Born approximation evaluated by means of partial wave
analysis to gauge the quality of our approximate treatment. We show that the
approximate M\"oller potential has a plane-wave-like structure and hence
permits the separation of the cross section into five terms which depend on
bilinear products of transforms of the transition four current elements. These
transforms reduce to Fourier transforms when Coulomb distortion is not present,
but become modified with the inclusion of Coulomb distortion. We investigate
the application of the approximate formalism to a model of 208Pb(e,e'p) using
Dirac-Hartree single particle wave functions for the ground state and
relativistic optical model wave functions for the continuum proton. We show
that it is still possible to extract, albeit with some approximation, the
various structure functions from the experimentally measured data even for

Extraction of Structure Functions from Quasielastic Electron Scattering (e,e') from Medium and Heavy Nuclei
Using a relativistic mean-field single particle knock-out model for (e,e')
reactions on nuclei, we investigate approximate treatments of Coulomb
distortion effects and the extraction of longitudinal and transverse structure
functions. We show that an effective momentum approximation (EMA) when coupled
with a focusing factor provides a good description of the transverse
contributions to the (e,e') cross sections for electron energies above 300 MeV
on 208Pb. This approximation is not as good for the longitudinal contributions
even for incident electron eneriges above 1 GeV and if one requires very
precise extraction of longitudinal and transverse structure functions in the
quasielastic region it is necessary to utilize distortion factors based on a
nuclear model and a more accurate inclusion of Coulomb distortion effects.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed Co-based amorphous ribbons
The off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in field-annealed CoFeSiB amorphous ribbons
was measured in the low-frequency range using a pick-up coil wound around the
sample. The asymmetric two-peak behavior of the field dependence of the
off-diagonal impedance was observed. The asymmetry is attributed to the
formation of a hard magnetic crystalline phase at the ribbon surface. The
experimental results are interpreted in terms of the surface impedance tensor.
It is assumed that the ribbon consists of an inner amorphous region and surface
crystalline layers. The coupling between the crystalline and amorphous phases
is described through an effective bias field. A qualitative agreement between
the calculated dependences and experimental data is demonstrated. The results
obtained may be useful for development of weak magnetic-field sensors.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figure
A New SX Phe Star in the Globular Cluster M15
A new SX Phe star (labelled SXP1) found from CCD photometry is the first
to be discovered in the globular cluster M15. It is a blue straggler and is
located 102\arcsec.8 north and 285\arcsec.6 west of the center of M15
\citep{har96}. Mean magnitudes of SXP1 are = 18$\fm$671 and
= 18\fm445. The amplitude of variability of SXP1 is measured to be . From multiple-frequency analysis based on the Fourier
decomposition method, we detect two very closely separated pulsating
frequencies: the primary frequency at c/d for both - and
-bands, and the secondary frequency at c/d for the -band and
24.343 c/d for the -band. This star is the second among known SX Phe stars
found to pulsate with very closely separated frequencies ().
These frequencies may be explained by excitation of nonradial modes; however,
we have an incomplete understanding of this phenomenon in the case of SX Phe
stars with relatively high amplitudes. The metallicity-period and the
variability amplitude-period relations for SXP1 in M15 are found to be
consistent with those for SX Phe stars in other globular clusters.Comment: 15 pages with 6 figures, accepted by the Astronomical Journal

Inverse Modelling to Obtain Head Movement Controller Signal
Experimentally obtained dynamics of time-optimal, horizontal head rotations have previously been simulated by a sixth order, nonlinear model driven by rectangular control signals. Electromyography (EMG) recordings have spects which differ in detail from the theoretical rectangular pulsed control signal. Control signals for time-optimal as well as sub-optimal horizontal head rotations were obtained by means of an inverse modelling procedures. With experimentally measured dynamical data serving as the input, this procedure inverts the model to produce the neurological control signals driving muscles and plant. The relationships between these controller signals, and EMG records should contribute to the understanding of the neurological control of movements
