Spinor Bose Condensates in Optical Traps
In an optical trap, the ground state of spin-1 Bosons such as Na,
K, and Rb can be either a ferromagnetic or a "polar" state,
depending on the scattering lengths in different angular momentum channel. The
collective modes of these states have very different spin character and spatial
distributions. While ordinary vortices are stable in the polar state, only
those with unit circulation are stable in the ferromagnetic state. The
ferromagnetic state also has coreless (or Skyrmion) vortices like those of
superfluid He-A. Current estimates of scattering lengths suggest that the
ground states of Na and Rb condensate are a polar state and a

Chemisorption on a model bcc metal
The system considered here is that of a single atom with one energy level chemisorbed on the (001) surface of a model bcc metal. We present the change in the density of electronic states În (E) due to chemisorption for two cases: one when the adatom is bound to a single substrate atom in the "onâsite" configuration and the other when it is bound to four substrate atoms in the "centered fourfold site." In principle, this change in the density of states În can be related to the results of photoemission measurements
Nitrogen removal and ammonia-oxidising bacteria in a vertical flow constructed wetland treating inorganic wastewater
Nitrogen removal performance and the ammonia-oxidising bacterial (AOB) community were assessed in the batch loaded 1.3ha saturated surface vertical flow wetland at CSBP Ltd, a fertiliser and chemical manufacturer located in Kwinana, Western Australia. From September 2008 to October 2009 water quality was monitored and sediment samples collected for bacterial analyses. During the period of study the wetland received an average inflow of 1109m3/day with NH3-N = 40mg/L and NO3-N=23mg/L. Effluent NH3-N and NO3-N were on average 31mg/L and 25mg/L respectively. The overall NH3-N removal rate for the period was 1.2g/m2/d indicating the nitrifying capacity of the wetland. The structure of the AOB community was analysed using group specific primers for the ammonia monooxygenase gene (amoA) by terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) and by clone libraries to identify key members. The majority of sequences obtained were most similar to Nitrosomonas sp. while Nitrosospira sp. was less frequent. Another two vertical flow wetlands, 0.8ha each, were commissioned at CSBP in July 2009, since then the wetland in this study has received nitrified effluent from these two new cells

We present four types of infinitely many exactly solvable Fokker-Planck
equations, which are related to the newly discovered exceptional orthogonal
polynomials. They represent the deformed versions of the Rayleigh process and

In-plane Theory of Non-Sequential Triple Ionization
We describe first-principles in-plane calculations of non-sequential triple
ionization (NSTI) of atoms in a linearly polarized intense laser pulse. In a
fully classically correlated description, all three electrons respond
dynamically to the nuclear attraction, the pairwise e-e repulsions and the
laser force throughout the duration of a 780nm laser pulse. Nonsequential
ejection is shown to occur in a multi-electron, possibly multi-cycle and
multi-dimensional, rescattering sequence that is coordinated by a number of
sharp transverse recollimation impacts.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Atomic entanglement near a realistic microsphere
We study a scheme for entangling two-level atoms located close to the surface
of a dielectric microsphere. The effect is based on medium-assisted spontaneous
decay, rigorously taking into account dispersive and absorptive properties of
the microsphere. We show that even in the weak-coupling regime, where the
Markov approximation applies, entanglement up to 0.35 ebits between two atoms
can be created. However, larger entanglement and violation of Bell's inequality

Chiral Electronics
We consider the properties of electric circuits involving Weyl semimetals.
The existence of the anomaly-induced chiral magnetic current in a Weyl
semimetal subjected to magnetic field causes an interesting and unusual
behavior of such circuits. We consider two explicit examples: i) a circuit
involving the "chiral battery" and ii) a circuit that can be used as a "quantum
amplifier" of magnetic field. The unique properties of these circuits stem from
the chiral anomaly and may be utilized for creating "chiral electronic"

Impact of OKT3 therapy on cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus infections after liver transplantation
The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of OKT3 on the frequency and severity of CMV and herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections in adult liver transplant recipients. OKT3 treatment is associated with a higher risk of disseminated CMV infection, particularly in patients with primary CMV infection. It also increased the frequency of symptomatic HSV infection in HSV-seropositive liver transplant recipients
Circumbinary Molecular Rings Around Young Stars in Orion
We present high angular resolution 1.3 mm continuum, methyl cyanide molecular
line, and 7 mm continuum observations made with the Submillimeter Array and the
Very Large Array, toward the most highly obscured and southern part of the
massive star forming region OMC1S located behind the Orion Nebula. We find two
flattened and rotating molecular structures with sizes of a few hundred
astronomical units suggestive of circumbinary molecular rings produced by the
presence of two stars with very compact circumstellar disks with sizes and
separations of about 50 AU, associated with the young stellar objects 139-409
and 134-411. Furthermore, these two circumbinary rotating rings are related to
two compact and bright {\it hot molecular cores}. The dynamic mass of the
binary systems obtained from our data are 4 M for 139-409 and
0.5 M for 134-411. This result supports the idea that
intermediate-mass stars will form through {\it circumstellar disks} and
jets/outflows, as the low mass stars do. Furthermore, when intermediate-mass
stars are in multiple systems they seem to form a circumbinary ring similar to
those seen in young, multiple low-mass systems (e.g., GG Tau and UY Aur).Comment: Accepted by Astronomy and Astrophysic
Steep-Spectrum Radio Emission from the Low-Mass Active Galactic Nucleus GH 10
GH 10 is a broad-lined active galactic nucleus (AGN) energized by a black
hole of mass 800,000 Solar masses. It was the only object detected by Greene et
al. in their Very Large Array (VLA) survey of 19 low-mass AGNs discovered by
Greene & Ho. New VLA imaging at 1.4, 4.9, and 8.5 GHz reveals that GH 10's
emission has an extent of less than 320 pc, has an optically-thin synchrotron
spectrum with a spectral index -0.76+/-0.05, is less than 11 percent linearly
polarized, and is steady - although poorly sampled - on timescales of weeks and
years. Circumnuclear star formation cannot dominate the radio emission, because
the high inferred star formation rate, 18 Solar masses per year, is
inconsistent with the rate of less than 2 Solar masses per year derived from
narrow Halpha and [OII] 3727 emission. Instead, the radio emission must be
mainly energized by the low-mass black hole. GH 10's radio properties match
those of the steep-spectrum cores of Palomar Seyfert galaxies, suggesting that,
like those Seyferts, the emission is outflow-driven. Because GH 10 is radiating
close to its Eddington limit, it may be a local analog of the starting
conditions, or seeds, for supermassive black holes. Future imaging of GH 10 at
higher resolution thus offers an opportunity to study the relative roles of
