CAMP: A technique to estimate per-structure power at run-time using a few simple parameters

Microprocessor power has become a first-order constraint at run-time. Designers must employ aggressive power-management techniques at run-time to keep a processor’s ballooning power requirements under control. Effective power management benefits from knowledge of run-time microprocessor power consumption in both the core and individual microarchitectural structures, such as caches, queues, and execution units. Increasingly feasible per-structure power-control techniques, such as fine-grain clock gat-ing, power gating, and dynamic voltage/frequency scaling (DVFS), become more effective from run-time estimates of per-structure power. However, run-time computation of per-structure power esti-mates based on utilization requires daunting numbers of input sta-tistics, which makes per-structure monitoring of run-time power a challenging problem

Supporting the Complex Social Lives of New Parents

One of the many challenges of becoming a parent is the shift in one’s social life. As HCI researchers have begun to investigate the intersection of sociotechnical system design and parenthood, they have also sought to understand how parents’ social lives can be best supported. We build on these strands of research through a qualitative study with new parents regarding the role of digital technologies in their social lives as they transition to parenthood. We demonstrate how sociotechnical systems are entangled in the ways new parents manage their relationships, build (or resist building) new friendships and ad hoc support systems, and navigate the vulnerabilities of parenthood. We discuss how systems designed for new parents can better support the vulnerabilities they internalize, the diverse friendships they desire, and the logistical challenges they experience. We conclude with recommendations for future design and research in this area

Basic education and training are seen as a form of investment in human resource development. Anticipating various changes in the national development order in this reform era, many changes have occurred in various aspects of national development including a new paradigm of implementing a local government system that emphasizes more on the principle of decentralization. The purpose of this study is to determine the analysis of the implementation of education and training for the careers of state civil servants in the Department. Youth and Sports in Takalar Regency. This research uses the type of research is qualitative with a descriptive analysis approach. This research describes and analyzes the implementation of education and training in the career development of the apparatus of the Youth and Sports Office of Takalar Regency. The number of informants of all employees who work at the Youth and Sports Office of Takalar Regency is 23 employees plus 2 people related to the Education and Training program. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, observation and documentation. The results showed that the education and training organized by the Takalar District Youth and Sports Office had an effect on employee career development. This can be seen from the 19 people who have attended education and training (LATPIM IV) 12 people have occupied positions. Blind Reconstruction of Binary Cyclic Codes From Unsynchronized Bitstream

The problem of identifying the channel code from a received sequence of noise-affected codewords is known as the blind reconstruction of channel codes. Blind reconstruction of channel codes is an important problem in military surveillance applications to identify the channel code used by an adversary. In this paper, we consider the problem of the blind reconstruction of the binary cyclic codes of unknown length from an unsynchronized bitstream (i.e., when the location of codeword boundaries is not known). For the blind reconstruction of cyclic codes, it is sufficient to identify the correct synchronization, the length, and the factors of the generator polynomial of the code. Toward this, we study the distribution of the syndromes (remainders) of the received polynomials with respect to a candidate factor of the generator polynomial. We prove that the probability of zero syndrome is maximum when all the parameters are correct. Using this result, the problem of the blind reconstruction of cyclic codes is formulated and solved as a hypothesis testing problem
