Methods of monitoring the Ground-Climate-Pipeline system in sections with hazardous processes

    Get PDF
The paper considers the concept of combining various means of monitoring of the Ground-Climate-Pipeline system sections exposed to hazardous processes. The concept of "hazardous processes"is described. Sensors selected for monitoring parameters in the Ground-Climate-Pipeline system are described. A monitoring scheme is proposed and described, all elements of which are functionally combined through information transfer networks. The advantages of using artificial intelligence in the proposed monitoring system are explained

Au-Ag template stripped pattern for scanning probe investigations of DNA arrays produced by Dip Pen Nanolithography

We report on DNA arrays produced by Dip Pen Nanolithography (DPN) on a novel Au-Ag micro patterned template stripped surface. DNA arrays have been investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) showing that the patterned template stripped substrate enables easy retrieval of the DPN-functionalized zone with a standard optical microscope permitting a multi-instrument and multi-technique local detection and analysis. Moreover the smooth surface of the Au squares (abput 5-10 angstrom roughness) allows to be sensitive to the hybridization of the oligonucleotide array with label-free target DNA. Our Au-Ag substrates, combining the retrieving capabilities of the patterned surface with the smoothness of the template stripped technique, are candidates for the investigation of DPN nanostructures and for the development of label free detection methods for DNA nanoarrays based on the use of scanning probes.Comment: Langmuir (accepted

Differential attraction and repulsion of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa on molecularly smooth titanium films

Magnetron sputtering techniques were used to prepare molecularly smooth titanium thin films possessing an average roughness between 0.18 nm and 0.52 nm over 5 μm × 5 μm AFM scanning areas. Films with an average roughness of 0.52 nm or lower were found to restrict the extent of P. aeruginosa cell attachment, with less than 0.5% of all available cells being retained on the surface. The attachment of S. aureus cells was also limited on films with an average surface roughness of 0.52 nm, however they exhibited a remarkable propensity for attachment on the nano-smoother 0.18 nm average surface roughness films, with the attachment density being almost twice as great as that observed on the nano-rougher film. The difference in attachment behaviour can be attributed to the difference in morphology of the rod-shaped P. aeruginosa compared to the spherical S. aureus cells

    Dip-pen patterning of poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) chain-conformation-based nano-photonic elements

Metamaterials are a promising new class of materials, in which sub-wavelength physical structures, rather than variations in chemical composition, can be used to modify the nature of their interaction with electromagnetic radiation. Here we show that a metamaterials approach, using a discrete physical geometry (conformation) of the segments of a polymer chain as the vector for a substantial refractive index change, can be used to enable visible wavelength, conjugated polymer photonic elements. In particular, we demonstrate that a novel form of dip-pen nanolithography provides an effective means to pattern the so-called β-phase conformation in poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) thin films. This can be done on length scales ≤500 nm, as required to fabricate a variety of such elements, two of which are theoretically modelled using complex photonic dispersion calculations

Conceptual Design of the Emergency Energy Supply System for a New Generation of Airships

    No full text
People have been looking for alternative ways to power drones for a long time. This paper described a conceptual design of a possible new capacitor design. The paper lists what elements would describe a perfectly balanced power system used in surveillance and reconnaissance systems for an airship. Initially, it was decided not to consider the technology currently used to power airships. A new capacitor design capable of storing a certain amount of energy without taking up space that could be used for equipment was described. The work performed calculations and compared the results with already possible and existing capacitor designs. This idea gave satisfactory results. After analyzing the results, it became clear that this technology would find a better application in airships of a larger size than the one considered in the following study to maximize the stored energy

The use of digital twin in the industrial sector

    No full text
The paper discusses one of the most active areas of production digitalization, capable of reducing the risks of environmental pollution - a solution for the virtual representation of the real static and dynamic characteristics of a technological system, briefly called "Digital Twin". The concept and classification of Digital Twin are described. The application of Digital Twins is also considered, starting with the analysis of the work of smart products in real operating conditions and ending with the creation of a fully digital robot factory
