Most of the libraries and library professionals have a positive perception towards adoption of Koha. Koha also has Web 2.0facilities like tagging, comment, social sharing and RSS feeds.Koha software is gaining popularity because of its web based architecture, Unicode compatibility, user friendliness and extensive customization possibilities. This situation demands the need for workshops, seminars and technical supports to library professionals for successful implementation of Koha. This article provided a strong theoretical base for the present study

Enabling Future Sustainability Transitions: An Urban Metabolism Approach to Los Angeles Pincetl et al. Enabling Future Sustainability Transitions

    Get PDF
Summary: This synthesis article presents an overview of an urban metabolism (UM) approach using mixed methods and multiple sources of data for Los Angeles, California. We examine electric energy use in buildings and greenhouse gas emissions from electricity, and calculate embedded infrastructure life cycle effects, water use and solid waste streams in an attempt to better understand the urban flows and sinks in the Los Angeles region (city and county). This quantification is being conducted to help policy-makers better target energy conservation and efficiency programs, pinpoint best locations for distributed solar generation, and support the development of policies for greater environmental sustainability. It provides a framework to which many more UM flows can be added to create greater understanding of the study area's resource dependencies. Going forward, together with policy analysis, UM can help untangle the complex intertwined resource dependencies that cities must address as they attempt to increase their environmental sustainability

Awareness of E-Learning Among Library and Information Science Professionals in University of Kerala and Mahatma Gandhi University: A Comparative Study

    Get PDF
This study was designed to examine awareness of e-learning among LIS professionals in University of Kerala and Mahatma Gandhi University: A comparative study. The study intended with an aim to explore the awareness, attitude and problems faced in the utilisation of e-learning. Closed ended questionnaire was used to collect the data from respondents. The study includes the library professionals of the central and 43 teaching department libraries in the UoK and central and 25 teaching department libraries of MGU. Among the 112 questionnaires distributed, 104 were completely answered and returned. The findings of the study revealed that half of the library professionals are well aware of e-learning in both universities

Energy efficiency analysis of reconfigured distribution system for practical loads

    Get PDF
SummaryIn deregulated rate structure, the performance evaluation of distribution system for energy efficiency includes; loss minimization, improved power quality, loadability limit, reliability and availability of supply. Energy efficiency changes with the variation in loading pattern and the load behaviour. Further, the nature of load at each node is not explicitly of any one type rather their characteristics depend upon the node voltages. In most cases, load is assumed to be constant power (real and reactive). In this paper voltage dependent practical loads are represented with composite load model and the energy efficiency performance of distribution system for practical loads is evaluated in different configurations of 33-node system

Interoperability Framework for Data Exchange between Legacy and Advanced Metering Infrastructure

    Get PDF
Performance of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is improving due to the introduction of International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) 61850 standard based smart meters and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs).  Whereas, legacy metering infrastructure and devices can not be ignored due to their wide spread use and substantial capital investment, but at the same time advance technology based smart meters are forcing utilities to adopt new technology in metering.  Middle path, before complete transformation takes place, seems to be to make legacy and AMI interoperable. This paper proposes a solution where applications from different manufacturers can access a standard interoperable metered data. A novel solution is also provided for accessing the meter metadata without manually inputting the address parameters of a particular meter to reduce the development time involved in deploying the AMI head-ends. Substation Communication Architecture to Realize the Future Smart Grid

    Get PDF
Substation and its communication architecture play an important role in maintaining high reliability, and availability of the power supply. Due to the proliferation of multi-vendor IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices) and communication technologies in substation, there seems to be an immediate need to adopt a standard approach for meeting the critical communication demands of Substation Automation System (SAS) and also to be future ready to tackle demand growth and changing scenario due to restructuring and deregulation. This paper presents possible exploitation of the technical features of IEC 61850, the standard for Communication Networks and Systems in Substation, to make the substation communication architecture future ready to accommodate the applications and goals of smart grid. On Cubic Graceful Labeling

    Get PDF
A graph with n vertex and m edges is said to be cubic graceful labeling if its vertices are labeled with distinct integers {0,1,2,3,……..,m3} such that for each edge f*( uv) induces edge mappings are {13,23,33,……,m3}. A graph admits a cubic graceful labeling is called a cubic graceful graph. In this paper, we proved that , associate urp with u(r+1)1 of K1,P, fixed vertices vr and ur of two copies of Pn are cubic graceful

A Comprehensive Cloud Security Model with Enhanced Key Management, Access Control and Data Anonymization Features

    Get PDF
A disgusting problem in public cloud is to securely share data based on fine grained access control policies and unauthorized key management. Existing approaches to encrypt policies and data with different keys based on public key cryptosystem are Attribute Based Encryption and proxy re-encryption. The weakness behind approaches is: It cannot efficiently handle policy changes and also problem in user revocation and attribute identification.  Even though it is so popular, when employed in cloud it generate high computational and storage cost. More importantly, image encryption is some out complex in case of public key cryptosystem. On the publication of sensitive dataset, it does not preserve privacy of an individual. A direct application of a symmetric key cryptosystem, where users are served based on the policies they satisfy and unique keys are generated by Data Owner (DO). Based on this idea, we formalize a new key management scheme, called Symmetric Chaos Based key Management (SCBKM), and then give a secure construction of a SCBKM scheme called AS-Chaos. The idea is to give some secrets to Key Manager (KM) based on the identity attributes they have and later allow them to derive actual symmetric keys based on their secrets. Using our SCBKM construct, we propose an efficient approach for fine-grained encryption-based access control for data stored in untrusted cloud storage

Investigations on developing a key for identification of elite nutmeg tree

    Get PDF
Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) is unique among tree spices, as the donor of two distinct spices; nutmeg and mace. Yield is a complex phenomenon in nutmeg. Fruit yield per tree is the targeted quantitative parameter which is dependent on several other yield related components. Hence, an attempt was made towards identification of an elite nutmeg tree using desirable characteristics which are easily measurable and recognizable. Forty six morphotypes of nutmeg selected from core collections in the Chalakudy river basin in Kerala in the age group of 15 years formed the material for study. These samples of nutmeg represented almost all nutmeg growing tracts of Kerala. The accessions were evaluated based on 51 qualitative and 38 quantitative characteristics and grouped based on similarities. Thirteen key quantitative characters were selected based on their impact on yield as well as commercial importance. The qualitative clusters were ranked based on relative best performance of the perceived key characters. Database was generated for the key characters and from this database, plausible value of each character was predicted. Accordingly, an elite nutmeg tree may be characterized as having the ideal characteristics with approximate values viz. tree height (8 m), canopy spread (E-W: 7 m, N-S: 8 m), number of flowers (6 per 10 cm2), fruit set percentage (37), number of fruits m-2 (19), fruit weight (81 g), thickness of pericarp (14 mm), dry mace weight (2 g), dry nut weight (10 g), kernel weight (7 g), ratio of nut to mace (6.6) and number of fruits per tree (3342). It is a simple key involving characters which are measurable and recognizable at the farmer level
