A Jewelry-Tech Experience: Teaching and Learning Model for Academic Training

    Get PDF
[EN] The paper aims to describe an innovative teaching and learning process in jewelry-tech design. First of all, the paper analyzes the contemporary and multidisciplinary context, underlining the growing presence of a close connection between digital technologies and the world of accessory design, particularly jewelry. The need to define learning models that aim to integrate different skills to train new professional figures successfully is outlined in this context. Secondly, the paper presents and examines the case study "name of the workshop" held at the "name of the university," an international workshop conducted in academic training in collaboration with an Italian jewelry company. The results obtained during this experience are presented and underline effective methodologies and critical issues in conducting the workshop.Tenuta, L.; Cappellieri, A.; Testa, S.; Rossato, B. With the broadening of the concept of Cultural Heritage - which now, in addition to great monuments, also includes urban cores, landscapes and intangible manifestations - the possibilities for heritage conservation actions have also expanded. Nowadays, in a globalised world immersed in technologies that are evolving with astonishing rapidity, precisely technological innovation can be an important ally for the enhancement of historic public spaces. On the occasion of the bicentenary of the placement of the existing obelisk in the “Largo da Memória” public space (in the centre of São Paulo), a three-dimensional survey pilot project was carried out in cooperation with local municipality. One of the objectives of this project was to develop an example of “good practices” for the conservation of urban space and a possible benchmark for the use of digital data by local technicians avoiding expansive software and hardware solutions. Thus, the three-dimensional survey of the area helped to evaluate the effectiveness of the optimisation of the integrated procedure, taking into consideration the importance of the public space of the Largo, at the intersection of Xavier de Toledo and Quirino de Andrade streets. Technology transfer actions played an important role within the whole process, enabling further evaluations for the conservation of the place by local authorities.</p

Use of SMOS L3 soil moisture data: validation and drought assessment for Pernambuco State, Northeast Brazil

The goal of this study was to validate soil moisture data from Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) using two in situ databases for Pernambuco State, located in Northeast Brazil. The validation process involved two approaches, pixel-station comparison and areal average, for three regions in Pernambuco with different climatic characteristics. After validation, the SMOS data were used for drought assessment by calculating soil moisture anomalies for the available period of data. Four statistical criteria were used to verify the quality of the satellite data: Pearson correlation coefficient, Willmott index of agreement, BIAS, and root mean squared difference (RMSD). The average RMSD calculated from the daily time series in the pixel and the areal assessment were 0.071 m3m-3 and 0.04 m3m-3, respectively. Those values are near to the expected 0.04 m3m-3 accuracy of the SMOS mission. The analysis of soil moisture anomalies enabled the assessment of the dry period between 2012 and 2017 and the identification of regions most impacted by the drought. The driest year for all regions was 2012, when the anomaly values achieved -50% in some regions. The use of SMOS data provided additional information that was used in conjunction with the precipitation data to assess drought periods. This may be particularly relevant for planning in agriculture and supporting decision makers and farmers.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
