The unintegrated gluon distribution from the CCFM equation
The gluon distribution f(x, k_t^2,mu^2), unintegrated over the transverse
momentum k_t of the gluon, satisfies the angular-ordered CCFM equation which
interlocks the dependence on the scale k_t with the scale \mu of the probe. We
show how, to leading logarithmic accuracy, the equation can be simplified to a
single scale problem. In particular we demonstrate how to determine the
two-scale unintegrated distribution f(x,k_t^2,mu^2) from knowledge of the
integrated gluon obtained from a unified scheme embodying both BFKL and DGLAP

Induced antiferromagnetism and large magnetoresistances in RuSr2(Nd,Y,Ce)2Cu2O10-d ruthenocuprates
RuSr2(Nd,Y,Ce)2Cu2O10-d ruthenocuprates have been studied by neutron
diffraction, magnetotransport and magnetisation measurements and the electronic
phase diagram is reported. Separate Ru and Cu spin ordering transitions are
observed, with spontaneous Cu antiferromagnetic order for low hole doping
levels p, and a distinct, induced-antiferromagnetic Cu spin phase in the 0.02 <
p < 0.06 pseudogap region. This ordering gives rise to large negative
magnetoresistances which vary systematically with p in the
RuSr2Nd1.8-xY0.2CexCu2O10-d series. A collapse of the magnetoresistance (MR)
and magnetisation in the pre-superconducting region may signify the onset of

But it also provides evidence of the continuing resilience, and even combativity in certain areas of employment, of workplace union reps organization, and considers the future potential for a revival of fortunes
Solution of the Kwiecinski evolution equations for unintegrated parton distributions using the Mellin transform
The Kwiecinski equations for the QCD evolution of the unintegrated parton
distributions in the transverse-coordinate space (b) are analyzed with the help
of the Mellin-transform method. The equations are solved numerically in the
general case, as well as in a small-b expansion which converges fast for b
Lambda_QCD sufficiently small. We also discuss the asymptotic limit of large bQ
and show that the distributions generated by the evolution decrease with b
according to a power law. Numerical results are presented for the pion
distributions with a simple valence-like initial condition at the low scale,
following from chiral large-N_c quark models. We use two models: the Spectral
Quark Model and the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Formal aspects of the equations,
such as the analytic form of the b-dependent anomalous dimensions, their
analytic structure, as well as the limits of unintegrated parton densities at x
-> 0, x -> 1, and at large b, are discussed in detail. The effect of spreading
of the transverse momentum with the increasing scale is confirmed, with
 growing asymptotically as Q^2 alpha(Q^2). Approximate formulas for
 for each parton species is given, which may be used in practical

Functional Characterization of a Novel Family of Acetylcholine-Gated Chloride Channels in Schistosoma mansoni
Acetylcholine is the canonical excitatory neurotransmitter of the mammalian neuromuscular system. However, in the trematode parasite Schistosoma mansoni, cholinergic stimulation leads to muscle relaxation and a flaccid paralysis, suggesting an inhibitory mode of action. Information about the pharmacological mechanism of this inhibition is lacking. Here, we used a combination of techniques to assess the role of cholinergic receptors in schistosome motor function. The neuromuscular effects of acetylcholine are typically mediated by gated cation channels of the nicotinic receptor (nAChR) family. Bioinformatics analyses identified numerous nAChR subunits in the S. mansoni genome but, interestingly, nearly half of these subunits carried a motif normally associated with chloride-selectivity. These putative schistosome acetylcholine-gated chloride channels (SmACCs) are evolutionarily divergent from those of nematodes and form a unique clade within the larger family of nAChRs. Pharmacological and RNA interference (RNAi) behavioral screens were used to assess the role of the SmACCs in larval motor function. Treatment with antagonists produced the same effect as RNAi suppression of SmACCs; both led to a hypermotile phenotype consistent with abrogation of an inhibitory neuromuscular mediator. Antibodies were then generated against two of the SmACCs for use in immunolocalization studies. SmACC-1 and SmACC-2 localize to regions of the peripheral nervous system that innervate the body wall muscles, yet neither appears to be expressed directly on the musculature. One gene, SmACC-1, was expressed in HEK-293 cells and characterized using an iodide flux assay. The results indicate that SmACC-1 formed a functional homomeric chloride channel and was activated selectively by a panel of cholinergic agonists. The results described in this study identify a novel clade of nicotinic chloride channels that act as inhibitory modulators of schistosome neuromuscular function. Additionally, the iodide flux assay used to characterize SmACC-1 represents a new high-throughput tool for drug screening against these unique parasite ion channels
Prompt photon and associated heavy quark production at hadron colliders with kt-factorization
In the framework of the kt-factorization approach, the production of prompt
photons in association with a heavy (charm or beauty) quarks at high energies
is studied. The consideration is based on the O(\alpha \alpha_s^2) off-shell
amplitudes of gluon-gluon fusion and quark-(anti)quark interaction
subprocesses. The unintegrated parton densities in a proton are determined
using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. The analysis covers the total and
differential cross sections and extends to specific angular correlations
between the produced prompt photons and muons originating from the semileptonic
decays of associated heavy quarks. Theoretical uncertainties of our evaluations
are studied and comparison with the results of standard NLO pQCD calculations
is performed. Our numerical predictions are compared with the recent
experimental data taken by the D0 and CDF collaborations at the Tevatron.

Charge order at the frontier between the molecular and solid states in Ba3NaRu2O9
We show that the valence electrons of Ba3NaRu2O9, which has a quasi-molecular
structure, completely crystallize below 210 K. Using an extended Hubbard model,
we show that the charge ordering instability results from long-range Coulomb
interactions. However, orbital ordering, metal-metal bonding and formation of a
partial spin gap enforce the magnitude of the charge separation. The striped
charge order and frustrated hcp lattice of Ru2O9 dimers lead to competition
with a quasi-degenerate charge-melted phase under photo-excitation at low
temperature. Our results establish a broad class of simple metal oxides as
models for emergent phenomena at the border between the molecular and solid

Cluster size distributions in particle systems with asymmetric dynamics
We present exact and asymptotic results for clusters in the one-dimensional
totally asymmetric exclusion process (TASEP) with two different dynamics. The
expected length of the largest cluster is shown to diverge logarithmically with
increasing system size for ordinary TASEP dynamics and as a logarithm divided
by a double logarithm for generalized dynamics, where the hopping probability
of a particle depends on the size of the cluster it belongs to. The connection
with the asymptotic theory of extreme order statistics is discussed in detail.
We also consider a related model of interface growth, where the deposited

Heavy Quark Hadroproduction in -Factorization Approach with Unintegrated Gluon Distributions
We consider the processes of compare the heavy quark production using the
unintegrated gluon distributions. The numerical predictions for high energy
nucleon-nucleon and photon-nucleon collisions of the -factorization
approach (semihard theory) are compared with the experimental data from
Tevatron-collider and HERA. The total production cross sections and 
distributions are considered and they are in reasonable agreement with the data
