    On representations of Clifford algebras of ternary cubic forms

    In this article, we provide an overview of a one-to-one correspondence between representations of the generalized Clifford algebra CfC_f of a ternary cubic form ff and certain vector bundles (called Ulrich bundles) on a cubic surface XX. We study general properties of Ulrich bundles, and using a recent classification of Casanellas and Hartshorne, deduce the existence of irreducible representations of CfC_f of every possible dimension.Comment: 9 pages, to appear in proceedings for the conference "New Trends in Noncommutative Algebra: A Conference in Honor of Ken Goodearl's 65th Birthday

    Pfaffian quartic surfaces and representations of Clifford algebras

    Given a nondegenerate ternary form f=f(x1,x2,x3)f=f(x_1,x_2,x_3) of degree 4 over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, we use the geometry of K3 surfaces and van den Bergh's correspondence between representations of the generalized Clifford algebra CfC_f associated to ff and Ulrich bundles on the surface Xf:={w4=f(x1,x2,x3)}P3X_f:=\{w^{4}=f(x_1,x_2,x_3)\} \subseteq \mathbb{P}^3 to construct a positive-dimensional family of irreducible representations of Cf.C_f. The main part of our construction, which is of independent interest, uses recent work of Aprodu-Farkas on Green's Conjecture together with a result of Basili on complete intersection curves in P3\mathbb{P}^{3} to produce simple Ulrich bundles of rank 2 on a smooth quartic surface XP3X \subseteq \mathbb{P}^3 with determinant OX(3).\mathcal{O}_X(3). This implies that every smooth quartic surface in P3\mathbb{P}^3 is the zerolocus of a linear Pfaffian, strengthening a result of Beauville-Schreyer on general quartic surfaces.Comment: This paper contains a proof of the main result claimed in the erroneous preprint arXiv:1103.0529.     Multi-Stage Complex Notch Filtering for Interference Detection and Mitigation to Improve the Acquisition Performance of GPS

    Continuous Wave Interferences (CWIs) can degrade the accuracy of a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and moreover it can completely deteriorate receiver’s normal operation. In this paper a low-cost anti-jamming system design is presented for the mitigation and detection of CWIs for GPS receivers. The anti-jamming system comprises of parameterizable Complex Adaptive Notch Filter (CANF) module which is able to detect and excise single or multiple CWIs. The CANF module is composed of a first, second and third order infinite-impulse response filter with an Auto-Regressive Moving Averager structure. The proposed CANF detects the existence of the CWI and estimates JNR level of incoming signal by using the statistical value of the adaptive parameter b0. The impact of the CANF module on the acquisition is analyzed. Moreover, a simple and innovative system level model is proposed which can utilize each CANF efficiently with threshold setting of JNR estimation within the adaptation block. Threshold setting parameters provide trade-off between effective excision of CWI, order of the filter and power consumption. This results in a parameterizable CANF module and provide effective solution for the mitigation of interferences with a high-power profile for GPS based applications

    Tracking and Mitigation of Chirp-Type Interference in GPS Receivers Using Adaptive Notch Filters

    A Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver is extremely prone to intentional and unintentional interference due to weak signal power experienced on the surface of the earth, which severely affects the navigation functionality and occasionally avoids the receivers from acquiring the GPS signal. This work presents a comparative performance analysis of two different types of Adaptive Notch Filtering (ANF) algorithms for GPS specific applications that are (1) Direct form 2nd Order ANF and (2) Lattice-based ANF for tracking and mitigation of Chirp-type Interference. Three classes of chirp-type interference signals, studied in this paper, are linear chirp, quadratic chirp and cubic chirp.     A Novel Optimization Algorithm for Notch Bandwidth in Lattice Based Adaptive Filter for the Tracking of Interference in GPS

    The weak signal levels experienced at the reception of the messages transmitted by navigation satellites, makes Global Positioning System (GPS) vulnerable to unintentional and intentional interference. This calls for appropriate modelling of GPS signal sources and jammers to assess the anti-jamming and interference mitigation capabilities of algorithms developed to be implemented for GPS receivers. Using a practical simulation model, this work presents an anti-jamming technique based on a novel algorithm. A fully adaptive lattice based notch filter is presented that provides better performance when compared to existing adaptive notch filter based techniques, chosen from the literature, in terms of convergence speed whilst delivering superior performance in the excision of the interference signal. To justify the superiority of the proposed technique, the noise and interference signal power is varied for in a wide dynamic range assessing jamming-to-noise density versus effective carrier-to-noise density performance at the output of the correlator

    A Fully Adaptive Lattice-based Notch Filter for Mitigation of Interference in GPS

    Intentional interference presents a major threat to the operation of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems. Adaptive notch filtering provides an excellent countermeasure and deterrence against narrowband interference. This paper presents a comparative performance analysis of two adaptive notch filtering algorithms for GPS specific applications which are based on Direct form Second Order and Lattice-Based notch filter structures. Performance of each algorithm is evaluated considering the ratio of jamming to noise density against the effective signal to noise ratio at the output of the correlator. A fully adaptive lattice notch filter is proposed, which is able to simultaneously adapt its coefficients to alter the notch frequency along with the bandwidth of the notch filter. The filter demonstrated a superior tracking performance and convergence rate in comparison to an existing algorithm taken from the literature. Moreover, this paper describes the complete GPS modelling platform implemented in Simulink too

    Wildfires, often dubbed megafires, have in recent times increased in both frequency and scale, owing largely to human error as well as climate change. Due to their uncontrolled unpredictable rapid growth and behaviour, they can quickly become difficult to contain, leading to significant loss of lives, wildlife and property. It is therefore critical to tackle such fires in the early stages. This demands a reduction in the initial time to detection while ensuring reliability and a low false alarm rate. This paper discusses a new category of compact, easily deployable and energy efficient approach to sensor nodes for the continued monitoring of forest environments as well as the early detection of fires in their infancy based on a combination of sensory inputs. The sensor network reported in this paper was tested with other subsystems/technologies, in a real-life firefighting trial as part of a coordinated firefighting scenario with promising results

    Fundamental structure of Fresnel diffraction: natural sampling grid and the fractional Fourier transform

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.Fresnel integrals corresponding to different distances can be interpreted as scaled fractional Fourier transformations observed on spherical reference surfaces. We show that by judiciously choosing sample points on these curved reference surfaces, it is possible to represent the diffracted signals in a nonredundant manner. The change in sample spacing with distance reflects the structure of Fresnel diffraction. This sampling grid also provides a simple and robust basis for accurate and efficient computation, which naturally handles the challenges of sampling chirplike kernels. © 2011 Optical Society of America

    Effect of different levels of royal jelly on biochemical parameters of swimmers

    This study aims to investigate the effects of different levels of royal jelly supplementation on biochemical parameters in swimmers. Randomly selected 40 male swimmers aged 18 to 25 years attending the same trainings were recruited. Swimmers were assigned to 4 groups each with 10 subjects. Varying amounts of royal jelly (2, 1 g and 500 mg) were given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd groups and placebo (corn starch) to the 4th group. Participants were trained by swimming totally 20 km in 2 h on 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Resting blood samples were taken before royal jelly administration and after 30 days of application. Then biochemical analyses were performed. Different levels of royal jelly were found to be ineffective on glucose, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels of the swimmers. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine levels increased after the training program, and BUN level was higher in the group receiving 500 mg royal jelly than those in the other groups. The increment in creatinine levels was higher in those groups receiving higher amounts of royal jelly after the training. A supplementation of 500 mg, 1 and 2 g/day of royal jelly throughout the 30 day-exercise program was not significantly effective in the swimmers. Also, due to its high amino acid content, BUN and creatinine levels tended to increase.Key words: Royal jelly, swimming, exercise, biochemical parameters, ergogenic aids
