A new species of Jonesiobryum (Bryopsida : Rhachitheciaceae) from Uganda

Jonesiobryum dumboi is described as a new moss species from Uganda. It differs from its congeners by possessing more broadly obovate leaves and a costa that ends well below the apex. The species is only known from the type locality where it was collected on branches in the canopy

Nyungwea, a new genus of lichen with goniocyst-producing stipes from Rwanda and Uganda (East Africa)

The new genus and species Nyungwea pallida is characterized by a thin thallus lichenized with Trentepohlia and pale stipes producing goniocysts. Its taxonomic position is uncertain. It is named after the large pristine montane forest of Nyungwe in Rwanda (East Africa) where it was first found; it is also known from the Mabira forest in Uganda

Byssoloma llimonae sp nov., from continental Spain, Madeira and the Canary Islands

Byssoloma llimonae, a new species described from NE Spain, Madeira and the Canary Islands (Gomera, La Palma and Tenerife), is a mostly corticolous species, closely related to the more widespread and usually foliicolous Bapalmuia kakouettae (=Byssoloma aptrootii). The generic position of this group of species within the Pilocarpaceae is still unclear. The new combination Byssoloma kakouettae (Serus.) R. Luckin

A further new species of Strigula from Europe

peer reviewedStrigula muscicola Berger, Coppins, Cl. Roux & Serus. is described as new to science; it is a muscicolous species with aggregated ascomata and 3-septate ascospores, growing in subalpine habitats in Austria, Norway and Scotland

Chiodecton epiphyllum is a lichenicolous fungus on Coenogonium flavicans and belongs in the genus Plectocarpon (Arthoniales : Roccellaceae)

The biological status of Chiodecton epiphyllum (Arthoniales: Roccellaceae), described as a foliicolous lichen from Papua New Guinea, is reassessed, based on additional material from Brazil, Costa Rica, and Papua New Guinea. The species is a lichenicolous fungus growing on the foliicolous lichen Coenogonium flavicans (Gyalectales: Gyalectaceae). Furthermore, its ascomatal anatomy and lichenicolous growth habit suggest placement in the related genus Plectocarpon, instead of Chiodecton. We therefore propose the new combination Plectocarpon epiphyllum [Bas.: Chiodecton epiphyllum]. The species is further lectotypified on its ascomata since parts of the original description which denote vegetative characteristics refer to the sterile thallus of the host lichen.
