Effect of agro-climatic conditions on near infrared spectra of extra virgin olive oils
Authentication of extra virgin olive oil requires fast and cost-effective analytical procedures, such as near infrared spectroscopy. Multivariate analysis and chemometrics have been successfully applied in several papers to gather qualitative and quantitative information of extra virgin olive oils from near infrared spectra. Moreover, there are many examples in the literature analysing the effect of agro-climatic conditions on food content, in general, and in olive oil components, in particular. But the majority of these studies considered a factor, a non-numerical variable, containing this meteorological information. The present work uses all the agro-climatic data with the aim of highlighting the linear relationships between them and the near infrared spectra. The study begins with a graphical motivation, continues with a bivariate analysis and, finally, applies redundancy analysis to extend and confirm the previous conclusions.Peer Reviewe

New approaches in the chemometric analysis of infrared spectra of extra-virgin olive oils
The aim of this paper is to apply new chemometric approaches to obtain quantitative information from near and mid infrared spectra of Andalusian extra-virgin olive oils, using gas chromatography as a classical reference analytical technique. Estimations of the content in saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids are given using partial least squares regression from the near and mid infrared data matrices as well as their concatenated matrix. The different estimations are evaluated in terms of goodness of fit (calibration) and prediction (validation), as a function of the number of partial least squares factors in the regression model and the used matrix of data. Furthermore, the nature, systematic or random, of the prediction errors is studied by a decomposition of their mean squared error. Finally, procedures of cross-validation are implemented in order to generalize the previous results
The treatment of the joint complex wounds is difficult. A good clinic, functional and aesthetic outcome is possible when multidisciplinary approach by orthopaedics and
plastic surgeons is carried out. We report a case of a patient
with multiple fractures who presents a severe loss of soft tissue at the knee. This lesion was due to a septic arthritis with
patellar necrosis and condillar exposition. The treatment was
made by a distally pedicled vastus lateralis muscular flap.
This flap lets efficient coverage for the exposed joint as well
as the integrity of the extensión knee function without aesthetic seque
Development and Characterization of Nanoemulsions for Ophthalmic Applications: Role of Cationic Surfactants
The eye is a very complex organ comprising several physiological and physical barriers that compromise drug absorption into deeper layers. Nanoemulsions are promising delivery systems to be used in ocular drug delivery due to their innumerous advantages, such as high retention time onto the site of application and the modified release profile of loaded drugs, thereby contributing to increasing the bioavailability of drugs for the treatment of eye diseases, in particular those affecting the posterior segment. In this review, we address the main factors that govern the development of a suitable nanoemulsion formulation for eye administration to increase the patient's compliance to the treatment. Appropriate lipid composition and type of surfactants (with a special emphasis on cationic compounds) are discussed, together with manufacturing techniques and characterization methods that are instrumental for the development of appropriate ophthalmic nanoemulsions. Keywords: nanoemulsions, ocular barriers, ocular delivery, cationic surfactant
The technique of percutaneous vertebroplasty for osteoporotic fractures and spine tumors was develop an important increase because there were a lot of publications with good results and low rate of complications. This fact was done a fast developing of instruments and new PMMA cements to simplify this technique and decreased the rate of complications. In our opinion the percutaneous vertebroplasty is a high demand technique and have a high potential of major neurological complications if it is not performed with use of appropriate safeguards, but the purpose of this article is not to condemn the technique because we have had a good results using it in this pathologies and the majority of publications have shown a high rate of excellent results
Simulating use cases for the UAH autonomous electric car
2019 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference (ITSC), Auckland, New Zealand, 27-30 Oct. 2019This paper presents the simulation use cases for
the UAH Autonomous Electric Car, related with typical driving
scenarios in urban environments, focusing on the use of hierarchical interpreted binary Petri nets in order to implement the
decision making framework of an autonomous electric vehicle.
First, we describe our proposal of autonomous system architecture, which is based on the open source Robot Operating
System (ROS) framework that allows the fusion of multiple
sensors and the real-time processing and communication of
multiple processes in different embedded processors. Then, the
paper focuses on the study of some of the most interesting
driving scenarios such as: stop, pedestrian crossing, Adaptive
Cruise Control (ACC) and overtaking, illustrating both the
executive module that carries out each behaviour based on
Petri nets and the trajectory and linear velocity that allows
to quantify the accuracy and robustness of the architecture

Combination of Caloric Restriction and a Mixed Training Protocol as an Effective Strategy to Counteract the Deleterious Effects in Trabecular Bone Microarchitecture Caused by a Diet-Induced Obesity in Sprague Dawley Rats
The association of obesity with changes in bone mass is not clear. Obese individuals tend
to have an increased bone mineral density, but other studies have shown that obesity is a major
risk factor for fractures. The mechanisms of bone response during a weight loss therapy as well
as the possible osteoprotective effect of exercise should be analyzed. The aim of this study was to
test the effects of a weight-loss program based on the combination of caloric restriction and/or a
mixed training protocol on different parameters of bone morphology and functionality in a DIO rat
model. Three stages were established over a 21-week period (obesity induction 0–12 w, weight loss
intervention 12–15 w, weight maintenance intervention 15–21 w) in 88 male Sprague Dawley rats.
Bone microarchitecture, total mineral and elemental composition, and bone metabolism parameters
were assessed. Weight loss interventions were associated to healthy changes in body composition,
decreasing body fat and increasing lean body mass. On the other hand, obesity was related to a
higher content of bone resorption and inflammatory markers, which was decreased by the weight
control interventions. Caloric restriction led to marked changes in trabecular microarchitecture, with a
significant decrease in total volume but no changes in bone volume (BV). In addition, the intervention
diet caused an increase in trabeculae number and a decrease in trabecular spacing. The training
protocol increased the pore diameter and reversed the changes in cortical porosity and density of
BV induced by the high protein diet at diaphysis level. Regarding the weight-maintenance stage,
diminished SMI values indicate the presence of more plate-like spongiosa in sedentary and exercise
groups. In conclusion, the lifestyle interventions of caloric restriction and mixed training protocol
implemented as weight loss strategies have been effective to counteract some of the deleterious effects
caused by a dietary induction of obesity, specifically in trabecular bone morphometric parameters as
well as bone mineral content.Spanish Government DEP2014-58296-R
