Implementing Intelligent Controllers of Fractal Manufacturing Systems

    No full text
The distributed manufacturing systems such as bionic, holonic, and fractal manufacturing system are newly introduced as the next generation manufacturing system. Although Fractal Manufacturing System has a lot of advantages in the conceptual aspect, it has been known to have a deficiency of difficult implementation. To cope with this problem, functions of each component of BFU (Basic Fractal Unit), an observer, an analyzer, an organizer, a resolver, and a controller, is thoroughly defined with the widely-used modeling techniques such as IDEF0 and Petri-net. A methodology for implementing intelligent controllers of Fractal Manufacturing Systems is also proposed

A Novel Negotiation Protocol for Agent-based Control Architecture

    No full text
To implement more flexible manufacturing system, the flexibility of each controller in scheduling and planning has to be enhanced. Many researchers are interested in DAI(Distributed Artificial Intelligence) technologies to apply the decision-making system of SFCS(Shop Floor Controller System). We here propose the agent-based control architecture and a novel negotiation protocol named for MANP(Mobile Agent-based Negotiation Protocol). In the proposed control architecture, each agent coordinates the activities and negotiates with other agents to improve the system performance. Also, the bid manager system is introduced for systematic negotiation among agents. MANP is based on the mobility of an agent. The clone of an agent travels over the controllers to negotiate with other agents. Negotiation process in MANP has four phases - 1)preparation, 2)cloning, 3)traveling and evaluation, 4)awarding
