Empirical Study on Householdsā€™ Energy-Conservation Behavior of Jiangsu Province in China: The Role of Policies and Behavior Results

    No full text
With the improvement of living quality and the increase of energy consumption of residents, their energy conservation behavior (ECB) plays an increasingly important role in energy conservation and emission reduction. As a kind of environmental behavior, ECB of residents is a complicated process. In this paper, ECB is divided into four types, considering habit adjustment, quality threshold, efficiency investment, and interpersonal facilitation. A comprehensive conceptual framework is built, adding perception about energy conservation results (PER) and contextual factors from a new perspective. Based on a survey in Jiangsu province of China, this paper examines the impact of intention on behavior under the moderation of contextual factors, as well as the effect of perception of energy-conservation results on intention and ECB by means of multivariate statistical analysis. The results show that the intention of energy conservation is the determinant of behavior, but it does not well transform into behavior, especially into quality threshold and interpersonal facilitation behavior. Different contextual factors have positive effects on the relationship of intention and different behavior. However, modulating effects of contextual factors as amplifiers do not function effectively due to their low rating scores. PER has a positive impact on intention but not on all types of ECB. Finally, this paper presents important implications for policy makers to optimize energy conservation policy

A long-term 0.01Ā° surface air temperature dataset of Tibetan Plateau

    No full text
The surface air temperature (Ta) dataset of the Tibetan Plateau is obtained by downscaling the China regional surface meteorological feature dataset (CRSMFD). It contains the daily mean Ta and 3-hourly instantaneous Ta. This dataset has a spatial resolution of 0.01Ā°. Its time range for surface air temperature dataset is from 2000 to 2015. Spatial dimension of data: 73Ā°Eā€“106Ā°E, 40Ā°Nā€“23Ā°N. The Ta with a 0.01Ā° can serve as an important input for the modeling of land surface processes, such as surface evapotranspiration estimation, agricultural monitoring, and climate change analysis

Different Educational Interventions on Individual Cognition of Garbage Classification Based on EEG Monitoring

    No full text
Improvement in an individuals’ cognition is the key to promote garbage classification. This study takes university students as the research subjects, through three educational interventions, including the self-learning, heuristic learning, and interactive learning ways, to seek the most effective intervention based upon event-related potentials (ERPs) that is beneficial to enhance cognition of garbage classification. The results show that the experimental subjects induced P300 and LPP components, representing attentional changes and cognitive conflicts in classification judgments. There are differences in the amplitudes and peak latency of the two components corresponding to different interventions, indicating that the three educational interventions are able to improve the individual’s cognition level of garbage classification within a certain period of time. The interactive-learning intervention triggers the largest amplitudes of P300 and LPP, as well as the smallest peak latency, indicating its effect is the best. Such results provide insight into the design for an appropriate strategy in garbage classification education. The study also shows that an EEG signal can be used as the endogenous neural indicator to measure the performance of garbage classification under different educational interventions

Molecular characterization of natural biofilms from household taps with different materials : PVC, stainless steel, and cast iron in drinking water distribution system

Microorganism in drinking water distribution system may colonize in biofilms. Bacterial 16S rRNA gene diversities were analyzed in both water and biofilms grown on taps with three different materials (polyvinyl chloride (PVC), stainless steel, and cast iron) from a local drinking water distribution system. In total, five clone libraries (440 sequences) were obtained. The taxonomic composition of the microbial communities was found to be dominated by members of Proteobacteria (65.9ā€“98.9 %), broadly distributed among the classes Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, and Gammaproteobacteria. Other bacterial groups included Firmicutes, Acidobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Cyanobacteria, and Deinococcus-Thermus. Moreover, a small proportion of unclassified bacteria (3.5ā€“10.6 %) were also found. This investigation revealed that the bacterial communities in biofilms appeared much more diversified than expected and more care should be taken to the taps with high bacterial diversity. Also, regular monitor of outflow water would be useful as potentially pathogenic bacteria were detected. In addition, microbial richness and diversity in taps ranked in the order as: PVCā€‰<ā€‰stainless steelā€‰<ā€‰cast iron. All the results interpreted that PVC would be a potentially suitable material for use as tap component in drinking water distribution system

Characterization of Bacterial Community Structure in a Drinking Water Distribution System during an Occurrence of Red Waterā–æ

The role of bacteria in the occasional emergence of red water, which has been documented worldwide, has yet to be determined. To better understand the mechanisms that drive occurrences of red water, the bacterial community composition and the relative abundance of several functional bacterial groups in a water distribution system of Beijing during a large-scale red water event were determined using several molecular methods. Individual clone libraries of the 16S rRNA gene were constructed for three red water samples and one sample of normal water. Beta-, Alpha-, and Gammaproteobacteria comprised the major bacterial communities in both red water and normal water samples, in agreement with previous reports. A high percentage of red water clones (25.2 to 57.1%) were affiliated with or closely related to a diverse array of iron-oxidizing bacteria, including the neutrophilic microaerobic genera Gallionella and Sideroxydans, the acidophilic species Acidothiobacillus ferrooxidans, and the anaerobic denitrifying Thermomonas bacteria. The genus Gallionella comprised 18.7 to 28.6% of all clones in the three red water libraries. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis showed that the 16S rRNA gene copy concentration of Gallionella spp. was between (4.1 Ā± 0.9) Ɨ 107 (mean Ā± standard deviation) and (1.6 Ā± 0.3) Ɨ 108 per liter in red water, accounting for 13.1% Ā± 2.9% to 17.2% Ā± 3.6% of the total Bacteria spp. in these samples. By comparison, the percentages of Gallionella spp. in the normal water samples were 0.1% or lower (below the limit of detection), suggesting an important role of Gallionella spp. in the formation of red water

Short-term Study of Bushen Jiangu Decoction Combined with PVP in the Treatment of Elderly Patients with Osteoporotic Thoracolumbar Vertebral Compression Fracture

To investigate the clinical effects of Bushen Jiangu Decoction combined with percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) in the treatment of elderly patients with osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture (OVCF). Seventy-four elderly patients with OVCF were enrolled in our hospital and randomized by digital table method, 37 cases each. The control group received PVP treatment, and the observation group was treated with Bushen Jiangu Decoction on the basis of PVP treatment. Cobb angle, bone mineral density, Oswestry dysfunction index questionnaire (ODI) score, and visual analogue scale (VAS) were compared before and after treatment. After treatment, the Cobb angle of the observation group was smaller than that of the control group, and the bone density was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The ODI score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group after treatment (P<0.05); 1 month and 3 months after treatment, the VAS score of the 6-month observation group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). Bushen Jiangu Decoction combined with Western medicine in the treatment of elderly patients with OVCF can restore Cobb angle, increase bone density, reduce postoperative pain and improve thoracic and lumbar spine function
